Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Fast on the curve is the real fast

From the outskirts of Hau'oli City to the downtown area, the map showed a distance of nearly ten kilometers, which wasn't too far, as Melemele Island itself isn't very large.

After walking from the beach to the road above, you could still see Exeggutor bus stops by the roadside.

On the other side was a residential area the size of a village, with many brightly colored flowers planted around it, and a few ordinary-looking Meowth running and playing within.

However, Cyclizar didn't seem to have seen these things before; it excitedly ran to the bus stop, hugged the bus sign, and started biting it, scaring away the Pikipek resting on top.

"???"

Seeing this, Hoshino was momentarily stunned, then quickly ran over, trying hard to pull it off.

"Hey, you can't eat that!"

"Cycli Cycli~"

"Listen to me, don't mess around..."

He sighed and shook his head, almost forgetting that Cyclizar was in an amnesiac state. This was fine in the wild, where it could quickly adapt based on its Pokémon instincts.

But if it entered the city and wanted to rush over and bite everything it was curious about, who knows how much trouble it would cause. It seemed he still needed to properly educate it...

It was afternoon, and the scorching sun was blazing, baking the earth.

The man and the Cyclizar walked forward along the road, sweat sliding down their skin, leaving faint marks on the ground that quickly disappeared.

Hoshino felt like he was being roasted dry, but there was nowhere to cool off on either side of the road; the coconut trees used as decorations offered no shade.

There was still more than half the journey left to Hau'oli City, so he decided to rest for a while in the distant forest first. The weather in Alola was really too hot.

However, just then, a rapid sound of running suddenly came from behind. Hoshino and Cyclizar instinctively looked back.

They saw dust swirling in the distance, with a Tauros leading the way, heading towards them.

Only upon closer inspection did they realize that this Tauros had a blue-gray colored seat installed on it, like clothing.

And a young boy wearing a blue and white striped short-sleeved shirt was sitting on top, his black baseball cap worn backward. He seemed to be in a great hurry.

However, Hoshino didn't pay attention to who the person was; his attention was more focused on the Tauros, especially its riding gear.

"Pokémon Riding?!"

He was a bit surprised, as it was his first time seeing it. But the Tauros was very fast, and in a blink of an eye, it had already passed him, leaving only a cloud of dust.

"Cough cough..."

Hoshino closed his eyes and coughed twice, fanning away the dust, feeling a bit annoyed.

"Aren't you afraid of hitting someone running so fast!"

But no sooner had he spoken than he suddenly noticed that Cyclizar was on all fours, its gaze fixed on the receding Tauros ahead, revealing a fighting spirit!

It got down on all fours, assuming a ready-to-run stance, then looked back, signaling Hoshino to quickly get on. Its expression seemed to say, "Boss, the car is ready."

"Cycli Cycli!"

"You're saying everything is ready, right?"

Hoshino's lips curled up. He hadn't expected to almost forget that Cyclizar was a riding Pokémon, and he also had the [Riding EX] talent.

He must have been dazed by the sun. If he had thought of it earlier, he would surely have been in Hau'oli City by now, instead of walking under the sun.

"Let's go! We're chasing them!"

"Cycli!"

Hoshino directly rode on Cyclizar's back. He could clearly see that this was a competition between Pokémon. Because the Tauros was carrying someone and running fast, Cyclizar wanted to win in its own area of expertise!

However, Cyclizar wasn't wearing riding gear right now, so he could only hug its neck to ensure he wouldn't be thrown off due to the high speed.

"I remember that people from Paldea seem to install handlebars and footrests on Cyclizar to make movement easier. I'll get some too someday..."

Just as Hoshino thought of this, a strong wind suddenly hit, almost throwing him off. Cyclizar launched off, quickly running forward, and its speed was still increasing!

Although it had tire-like decorations in front, it actually ran using its hands and feet. Only Miraidon could run with wheels...

"Fast...too fast...slow...slow down...I can't take it anymore..."

Hoshino was screaming all sorts of things. Cyclizar's speed was already over 100 km/h, and he had no protective measures at all; his hairline had moved up significantly.

The young boy riding on Tauros ahead, and the Tauros itself, both simultaneously noticed the movement behind them.

But just as they were about to turn their heads to look, accompanied by someone's growl, a figure shot past with a whoosh.

"So fast, what was that?!"

Both he and Tauros were stunned for a moment, then looked ahead, simultaneously bursting with fighting spirit, and shouted, "Interesting, but we won't lose either! Let's catch up!"

"Moo!"

As Tauros also started to accelerate, the distance between them began to close, and this road instantly gained two beautiful scenic lines of swirling dust!

Then the young boy suddenly greeted them, shouting, "Alola~ I haven't seen you around here, did you just move here? I'm Sun, I go to Pokémon School in Hau'oli City. Who are you..."

"I'm... I'm almost dead..."

Hoshino couldn't even speak clearly; the only thing he could do was hold on tightly to Cyclizar.

Just as Sun was about to continue asking, a curve suddenly appeared ahead! After passing this, they would quickly reach downtown Hau'oli City.

But any Trainer familiar with Pokémon riding races knows one truth: only fast on curves is truly fast! Who can't accelerate on a straight line?

"No one knows this road better than me. When he starts to slow down, we'll use the drain turn to overtake him in one go!"

Sun's expression was very confident, but the next moment he froze, because the Pokémon ahead, whatever it was, had no intention of slowing down at all!

"How dare you do that on a road this wide! Not even slowing down, aren't you afraid of crashing into the sea!"

No matter what the person behind thought, Hoshino had gradually adapted through his Riding EX talent.

However, because he didn't have riding gear, he still couldn't perform very well, but Cyclizar didn't need to worry at all; it was on autopilot, going full throttle!

The moment it entered the curve, it managed to complete the turn instantly at a speed of 120 km/h, with no difference from running in a straight line.

Hoshino on its back wasn't greatly affected, it just felt like his body was running ahead and his soul was chasing behind, on the verge of losing consciousness.

Watching the distance between them widen, Sun's expression grew more and more astonished: "Could it be that he's a professional Pokémon riding competitor...?"

Although he said that, he and Tauros wouldn't give up. After the turn, they also chased with all their might. In the distance, they could already see the towering buildings of Hau'oli City; the finish line was in sight!

Cyclizar and Tauros, one in front and one behind, both carrying their respective Trainers, advanced at full speed.

As they got closer to the city, more and more riding Pokémon and vehicles appeared around them, but they could only frantically get out of their way.

Under everyone's gaze, just as they were about to cross the finish line to determine the winner, Jenny, who was eating a donut while on duty, suddenly spotted her target!

She walked to the middle with Gumshoos, raised a red warning sign, and shouted, "You two, don't you know the city speed limit is 50 km/h! Stop right now!"

"Huh?"

Hearing that trembling voice, Hoshino's soul finally caught up to his body, bringing him back to his senses.

Seeing Jenny, he was stunned for a moment, his expression suddenly panicked: "Where's my brake? Which one is the brake!"

Sun, realizing something was wrong, quickly stepped on the brake to make Tauros slow down and stop. But Hoshino's Cyclizar wasn't wearing riding gear and could only be voice-controlled, but it was already too late...

Cyclizar charged across the finish line at full speed. It had amnesia and didn't understand any of this, directly running over Jenny and Gumshoos.

Hearing two screams, Hoshino's mind at this moment only contained two simple words...

"It's over..."

Watching Cyclizar disappear into the city, and Jenny twitching on the ground, Sun and Tauros stopped in place, their expressions, along with other witnesses around them, filled with immense shock.

"Speeding, assaulting an officer, and hit-and-run... How is this crime going to be judged?"
