Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 - Before the War

Silence didn't last.

Levi

The world of Cayter never changed.

That was the first thing Levi understood.

Structures remained perfect.

Movement remained controlled.

Nothing happened without reason.

And yet—

something was different.

More Cayter.

Not scattered.

Not distant.

Gathered.

Positioned.

Levi stood at the edge of a high structure, observing.

Lines.

Patterns.

Formation.

"…So it's not random."

His voice was quiet.

Measured.

They weren't just existing.

They were preparing.

Below him—

units aligned.

Not by command.

Not by sound.

But by understanding.

A system beyond language.

Levi's eyes narrowed slightly.

"…A coordinated structure without communication."

Efficient.

Dangerous.

Behind him—

presence.

He didn't turn immediately.

He already knew.

Two Cayter.

Standing.

Waiting.

"You have observed enough."

Levi turned.

"…And you have decided."

No emotion in his tone.

Only conclusion.

A space opened between them.

Equipment appeared.

Armor.

White.

Seamless.

A weapon.

Clean.

Balanced.

Perfect.

Levi stepped forward.

His eyes scanned every detail.

No flaws.

No excess.

"…Designed for efficiency."

"This belongs to you."

The voice came.

Flat.

"You will lead."

A pause.

"To weaken the enemy."

Levi didn't ask who.

Because the answer—

was already there.

"…So there is another side."

No confirmation.

No denial.

He reached out.

And took the weapon.

The moment his hand closed around it—

he understood.

This wasn't preparation.

This was deployment.

Vinh

The door exploded open.

Light burned into the cell.

Vinh lifted his head.

They were back.

The "demons."

This time—

closer.

One stepped forward.

Something was thrown at him.

Metal crashed against the ground.

Vinh flinched.

A blade.

Short.

Heavy.

Built for killing.

Another object followed.

Armor.

Dark.

Rough.

Not perfect.

But solid.

Vinh stared at them.

"…What is this…?"

No response.

Only a voice.

Distorted.

"Yours."

The word felt wrong.

"You fight."

No explanation.

No choice.

Only expectation.

Vinh's fingers tightened.

For a moment—

he didn't move.

His mind flashed back—

the sound.

The moment he killed it.

His hand trembled.

"…Again…?"

Silence.

The creatures didn't wait.

They didn't care.

Vinh looked at the weapon.

Then—

slowly—

reached down.

And picked it up.

It was heavier than he expected.

Real.

Too real.

Parallel

Two worlds.

One cold.

One violent.

One precise.

One chaotic.

Yet—

both moving.

Toward the same thing.

Levi stepped forward.

Vinh stood up.

Both holding weapons not meant for choice—

but for purpose.

They were no longer being tested…

They were being prepared.
