Chapter 11: Into the Trap

The coordinates kept flashing in Anaya's mind as she stepped out of the safe house, her fear now buried under a rising determination. The night air felt colder, sharper, as if warning her to turn back—but she didn't. She couldn't. Kabir's face on that screen, unconscious and helpless, had already made the decision for her. Trust or betrayal, truth or lie—none of it mattered right now. She had to find him. She followed the coordinates, her path leading her far from the city lights to an abandoned industrial area, where silence ruled and danger lurked in every shadow. Broken walls, rusted gates, and flickering lights made the place feel like a trap waiting to close.

As Anaya stepped inside the deserted warehouse, her heartbeat slowed—not out of calm, but focus. "I'm here," she said firmly, her voice echoing in the emptiness. For a moment, nothing happened. Then, slow clapping broke the silence. A figure emerged from the darkness, his face hidden behind shadows, but his presence carried a strange familiarity. "Impressive," he said, his voice the same cold tone from before. "You came alone… just like I expected." Anaya's eyes hardened. "Where is Kabir?" she demanded. The man smiled faintly and gestured ahead. Under a dim light, Kabir was tied to a chair, just like in the video—unconscious, unmoving.

Relief and fear hit her at once, but she didn't move forward. Something felt wrong. "You said you know the truth," she said cautiously. "Then say it." The man stepped closer, his face still unclear. "Truth?" he repeated softly. "The truth is, Anaya… your life is a lie." Her breath caught, but she stood firm. "Stop playing games." The man tilted his head slightly. "Alright. Let's make it simple. The night your family died… it wasn't an accident." The words struck deep, pulling at something buried inside her. Flashes of fire, screams, and chaos flickered in her mind again.

"You were there," he continued. "And so was Kabir."

Anaya's eyes widened. "No… that's not possible."

"Isn't it?" he said calmly. "Kabir was part of the operation that night. A mission that went wrong… or maybe, a mission that was never meant to go right." Her world began to shake. She looked at Kabir, then back at the man. "You're lying." But her voice trembled now. The man stepped even closer, finally revealing part of his face under the dim light—just enough for Anaya to recognize something… a memory, a connection she couldn't fully grasp yet.

"If I'm lying," he said quietly, "then wake him up… and ask him yourself."

Silence fell again.

Anaya slowly walked toward Kabir, her hands shaking as she untied the ropes. "Kabir… wake up," she whispered desperately. After a moment, he stirred, groaning slightly before opening his eyes. Confusion filled his face, then urgency as he saw her. "Anaya… no! You shouldn't be here!" he said, trying to get up.

But Anaya stepped back.

Her eyes searched his face—not for comfort this time, but for truth.

"Tell me," she said, her voice breaking yet firm. "That night… my family… were you there?"

Kabir froze.

For a second… he said nothing.

And that silence said everything.

Anaya felt her heart shatter.

Tears rolled down her cheeks, but she didn't look away. "Answer me, Kabir!"

Kabir closed his eyes briefly, as if accepting something he could no longer hide. When he opened them again, there was guilt… and pain.

"Yes," he said softly.

The word echoed like a gunshot in the empty warehouse.

Everything changed in that moment.

Trust. Love. Reality.

All of it shattered.

Behind them, the mysterious man smiled in satisfaction, stepping back into the shadows. "Now the real game begins," he whispered.

Anaya stood frozen, her world collapsing around her, while Kabir looked at her—not as her protector anymore, but as the man connected to her darkest past.

And somewhere deep inside, a new fear was born—

The truth wasn't just dangerous.

It was personal.
