It was a brand new day. Izuku was at Yoshiki's house garage. This is mostly where they create and make upgrades on their gadgets. They were having a discussion about how they could make a hoverboard hover.
"Isn't this fine? You just add this." suggested Yoshiki while pointing to a battery source.
"But then it won't be sustainable won't it? What if you ran out of energy during a chase?" countered Izuku whose arms are crossed, showing how serious this discussion is.
"I'm telling you, it's just a try-out at best, we'll make changes afterwards." said Yoshiki.
Izuku ponders for a bit before nodding hesitantly.
"What about the lifting power? Are we so sure it'd be able to lift itself up?" he says after.
"Well that... hm..." Yoshiki scratches his head at that question. "Let me try it first, it won't be that bad would it..?"
Izuku just looked at him with dead eyes.
"Right."
"I'm serious?"
"I know you are."
"So stop looking at me like that!"
Izuku sighs as he massages his temple.
"Whatever, who am I to judge? I'm not somebody who can adapt to death."
At that answer, it was Yoshiki's turn to look at him dumbly. This suicidal maniac can't be serious?
"What."
"Nothing..." Yoshiki looked sideways then took the battery and started putting it together.
Soon, they completely assembled it.
Yoshiki grabbed the thing and opened the garage door to go out as he gently placed it on the ground.
"This is your last chance to consider this stupidity." offers Izuku saying that Auntie and Uncle would be sad to see their son's passing at such a young age.
Yoshiki countered that he's worrying too much as he pressed the power button on the side of the hoverboard.
Whiiiiiiinngggggg
He swiftly stepped onto the hoverboard and felt himself going up albeit slightly off the ground.
He could hear an audible gulp from Izuku as he continued his ascent little by little.
'I can do this, I am Yoshiki, I'm the wind. Come on.' he chants this repeatedly in his mind as he started going up 1 meter, 2 meters, then 3.
If not for his complete balance due to training, he would've already gone off astray and completely topple off.
'Thank you Ojiro-sensei.'
"What do I do now, Izuku?!" he shouted at Izuku as he waited for his instructions.
"T-Try to maneuver a bit. Forward is always the easiest, just lean into it!" shouted Izuku back who couldn't hide his nervousness.
Gulping his fears away, Yoshiki started leaning down and surprisingly, the hoverboard follows.
Soon, he could even maneuver it side to side and do a complete spin.
"Woah, amazing! It's working!" he shouted in excitement as he continued maneuvering in the air even managing a flip. He started accelerating as wind swept his hair back.
He had to squint just to see where he was going.
It was so fun, so freeing, so—
Whiinnggg—
He started plummeting down as the hoverboard's battery completely ran out of juice.
"Shit." he cursed as he started streaking towards the ground.
He grabbed the hoverboard, hugging it close to his chest as tried to do a roll into a superhero landing.
He was close to the ground and—
Crack.
He tumbled into the ground, pain all over his body before he came to a complete skid.
"—iki! Yoshiki! Are you okay?!" worried shouted Izuku as he knelt beside him, afraid to touch him carelessly lest he upset whatever injuries Yoshiki suffered.
Yoshiki groaned and just laid there on the ground.
"I told you the battery wasn't that good to begin with!" Izuku was close to tears at this point. He did toughen out during the years, but he's still the same crybaby as before.
"Izuku shut up."
Izuku stopped talking, not even breathing in fear of upsetting Yoshiki.
Moments later, Yoshiki sat up.
"DID YOU SEE THAT, MAN?! THAT WAS AWESOME!!!" he suddenly shouted which shocked Izuku who was lost in the moment.
"You mean the way you fell or..?"
"Obviously the flying!!! It was great, the propellers are totally fine. Even the maneuvering sensors are okay! It's just—" Yoshiki continued but got interrupted.
"The battery?" Izuku said.
"R-Right." Yoshiki replied sheepishly. "Uh, where's Katsuki again?" he tried changing topics.
"Yoshiki."
"Well, I bet Katsuki's training huh?"
"Yoshiki."
"Uh, we should totally go to the dojo later and meet up with him."
"I got it on video." said Izuku finally.
...
"Tap, tap, tap."
Izuku was tapping as Yoshiki chokes him in a rear naked hold.
"Nah, I will delete it myself, Izuku. Go to sleep." replied Yoshiki fully intending to kill him.
"Shhh, it's fine. Go to sleep. You've seen nothing today."
This was the last sound Izuku hears as he got welcomed into the darkness.
...
He woke up a bit later inside the garage door to the sounds of Yoshiki fixing the hoverboard.
"Uh? What happened, did I sleep?" Izuku said groggily.
Yoshiki looked up from the working table. "Izuku? You fell asleep man, you said you are just going to doze off for a bit."
"Uh.. Did I..? I swear I had this confusing dream where you flew and fell off and then... huh?" Izuku was recounting the dream but was confused as to whether it's a dream or a memory.
"Come on dude, I told you not to stay up so late." Yoshiki says a moment later.
"M-Maybe I should..?"
"You really should."
Izuku stretched and then got back to the working table and asked Yoshiki what progress he made to the hoverboard.
Just like that, they continued working, all memories of that day forgotten.
---
Outside, a figure can be seen a few blocks away from the road.
A dark figure with blue eyes shining.
"Pft"
The figure laughed after seeing such spectacle.
What weird day, indeed.
The figure soon clenched its fist and opened it. Eyes turning into determination.
"Soon... just a few more observations... It's you, it's got to be you." he simply whispered the words but the conviction behind it was strong.
"I hope you prove to be a stronger user than me."
