Chapter 35 - Chapter 35: The Foundation of Power

The lecture hall was far larger than Kael had expected.

The moment he stepped inside, his eyes moved across the wide space in silence.

Rows of seats rose upward in smooth layers, circling the hall in a half-moon shape around the front platform. Unlike the hard wooden benches he had expected, each seat was wide and padded with soft dark fabric, the backrests slightly curved for comfort.

This was not a place built for common learning.

It was built for elites.

Aren dropped into one of the seats and immediately leaned back.

"…Now this," he said with a grin, "is what I call a proper academy."

Lyra sat beside him, giving him a flat look.

"We haven't even started."

Leon took the seat next to her, his sharp blue eyes already focused on the front platform.

Draven sat in silence, his posture straight, while Rylan quietly chose a seat closer to the aisle.

Kael took the seat near the center.

From here, he could see almost the entire hall.

Students continued to enter from all sides.

Some wore noble family crests on their uniforms.

Some walked in groups.

Others sat alone.

Everyone carried a different expression.

Curiosity.

Confidence.

Tension.

Competition.

The hall slowly filled.

Then—

Silence spread.

A man stepped onto the platform.

His silver hair was neatly combed back, and his golden eyes swept across the hall with calm authority. His dark academy robe fell smoothly around him, marked with faint golden lines that shimmered whenever he moved.

No one spoke.

Even Aren sat up slightly.

The man stood at the center of the platform and looked at the students.

"My name is Professor Aldric Voss," he said.

His voice was calm, but every word carried clearly through the hall.

"I will be instructing your first-semester foundation classes."

Kael watched him carefully.

There was no unnecessary movement in the professor's posture.

Everything about him felt controlled.

Measured.

Aldric lifted one hand.

A magical circle formed above the platform.

Thin golden lines spread through the air, weaving into a large glowing formation that hovered before the students.

Symbols slowly appeared inside it.

"The first thing you must understand," Aldric said, "is that strength in this academy is divided into two paths."

The symbols shifted.

On one side, a glowing staff.

On the other, a sword.

"Magic."

"Swordsmanship."

The words formed clearly in the air.

Aldric continued.

"For mages, power is measured by Magic Circles."

The symbol of the staff brightened.

A new set of glowing words appeared.

First Circle

Second Circle

Third Circle

Kael's eyes narrowed slightly.

So this was how they measured mages.

"The First Circle is the foundation," Aldric said. "At this level, mana is unstable and spell forms are simple."

A small fireball appeared above his hand.

Simple.

Controlled.

Then it changed.

The flame grew larger, splitting into three smaller spheres.

"The Second Circle allows better control and shaping of spells."

The spheres spun slowly in the air.

Then—

They expanded again.

A ring of fire formed, wide enough to cover several students.

"The Third Circle allows advanced spell shaping and area attacks."

Aren let out a quiet whistle.

Lyra's eyes remained fixed on the spell.

Kael noticed the way she leaned slightly forward.

Interested.

For the first time since entering, genuine focus appeared in her expression.

The flames disappeared.

Aldric lifted his other hand.

Now the sword symbol brightened.

"For fighters, strength is measured through Aura and Swordsmanship Rank."

New words appeared.

Initiate

Warrior

Knight

Grand Knight

Draven's gaze sharpened.

Leon's posture straightened slightly.

Aldric continued.

"The Initiate stage is where aura first begins to form."

A faint silver light gathered around his hand.

It spread along the shape of a summoned practice blade.

"At Warrior rank, aura can strengthen the body and weapon."

The silver light thickened.

The blade cut through the air.

A sharp wind followed.

Several students straightened in surprise.

"At Knight rank, aura can be projected."

The light extended past the blade's edge.

A thin silver arc sliced through the air and struck a practice target at the side of the hall.

The target split cleanly in half.

The hall fell silent.

Kael's eyes remained fixed on the broken target.

So this was the difference.

Aldric looked over the hall.

"Strength alone is not enough."

His golden eyes moved slowly across the students.

"This academy also operates on Class Ranking."

That caught everyone's attention.

A new set of glowing symbols appeared.

Rank 1 – Rank 100

Aren leaned forward.

Now he was interested.

"Students who rise in class ranking receive additional privileges."

The next words appeared.

Top 3 – Personal Teacher

Rank 4 to Rank 20 – Private Rooms

Better Resources

Priority Training Access

Advanced Equipment

A low murmur spread across the hall.

This time, even Kael's expression changed slightly.

So only the top three would receive direct personal guidance.

And only those within the top twenty would be allowed private rooms.

Everything below that—

Shared dormitories.

Aren blinked.

"…Now that sounds worth fighting for."

Aldric's voice cut through the whispers.

"Your ranking will be determined through examinations, academic performance, combat ability, and practical evaluations."

So not just strength.

Everything mattered.

Kael liked that.

Because it meant discipline and intelligence had value.

The magical formation shifted once more.

New words appeared.

First Semester Subjects:

Mana Control

Magic Theory

Combat Basics

Swordsmanship Foundation

History of the Continent

Practical Training

Kael's gaze lingered on the glowing words.

So there would be six core classes in this semester.

Enough to test every type of student.

The professor's golden eyes swept across the room one final time.

"Tomorrow," he said calmly, "your practical training begins."

This time, the reaction was stronger.

The atmosphere shifted.

Students looked at one another.

Comparing.

Measuring.

Preparing.

Kael sat still.

The lecture had answered many questions.

But it had created something more important.

A goal.

And in this academy—

Goals would decide everything.
