Chapter 43 - The Lifetime of Piao: Chapter 41 — The Maze Route

20 minutes later—

"Wow," Angela said. "Why is this place so complicated?"

"It's a maze," Angel said.

"I haven't been here in a long time, so I took a really complicated route. Getting in is hard, but getting out is much easier. Trust me."

"That does not make me feel better."

"It's similar to that pitfall."

Angela immediately looked at her. "I will not be kind to you if this is another pit."

"It's not like that."

"Do you promise?"

"Promise is a very strong word."

Angela stopped walking. "Is there a pit at the end of this?"

"Not really."

"Not really is not a good answer."

"It's fine," Angel said. "You'll be fine."

10 minutes later—

Angela stared downward. "Why is this so steep?"

"It's like a slide," Angel said.

"But why?"

"Don't worry about it."

"Are we going down there? That does not look safe."

Angel looked at her. "Do you trust me?"

"No," Angela said immediately.

"After the last pit you took me through, I don't trust you."

"You didn't die."

"That's not the point! I thought I damaged my vocal cords from screaming. And I'm pretty sure I developed trauma from deep holes where you can't see the bottom."

"But you can see the bottom of this one."

"Exactly. That's why I'm confused about how we're getting down there."

Angel held out her hand. "Do you trust me?"

Angela stared at her hand for a moment.

"…I trust you."

"Alright. Give me your hand."

Angela hesitated. "Why?"

"I'm not going to push you. Just give me your hand."

Angela gave her hand.

"Okay," Angel said.

"I need you to close your eyes. And no matter what happens, do not open them. If you open them, I cannot help you. I really cannot help you."

"You better not be lying."

"I'm not lying. Just close your eyes."

Angela slowly closed her eyes.

"Alright," Angel said.

"On three, take a step forward. And don't open your eyes."

"What? Why?"

"Trust me. One, two, three, step."

Angela stepped forward—

But suddenly, Angela felt a tug from behind her; something had pushed her.

"Hey! Why did you push me, Angel?!"

She opened her eyes.

She was alone.

There was nothing around her.

Only pitch darkness.
