Chapter 6 - Round 2: Part 3

Having the victory over the bad had done the purpose that it needed. Morale was high. Even if they had lost the next part of the round, this would be a big enough dent in the collective ego of the bad and give something that had been lost to the bad, hope.

The gambit of the Traveler had paid off. For a moment, he realized something, he had given away to the bad that he was mad enough to pull a gambit with such a weak person. But it also gave way who he was to somebody in the ranks of the bad. That of course was his nemesis. The woman who was volunteering herself to exit had the brains to know that there was going to be a riot and most likely infighting in the likes of the bad.

She couldn't allow such a thing to get worse.

"Boys, hear what I say." She took a chair and stood on it. Her heels were making it hard to stand on it but she needed to get the attention of the infighting bunch. "We're not going to go anywhere if you don't stop fighting one another for ten minutes!"

Most of the fighting continued onward until she waved her hand and all the gentlemen and not so gentle men were back in their seats. On the thought of it, she believed this place to be more of a hotel than an apartment building. All stays were temporary, for better or worse.

"Next up on this round is the wicked witch of beauty and rage, Selena!" Her heels made a strange noise as it moved through the sand. She grabbed the upward part of her dress and pulled it high enough to barely make it past the heels. She needed to be as agile as possible if she desired to make it past this round.

Even her ego had paled to the fear the Traveler had placed in her. But she knew it was a trick. But still a shocking one at that. I need to sway that judge.

"It's not polite to gawk at a lady in public." The crowd on the other side of the glass could be felt by Selina. She knew her greatest weapon wasn't the power from witching nor was it the cunning inside her brain. It was the beauty that lay on her face.

"My apologies, I must introduce another magician. His name is Holden Nicks and he's good at what he does. That being magic of course." The announcer was slowly gaining back his focus from the witch. "Meet the greatest magician to ever live!"

Out from the side of good came the man. Most of the time, magicians were extremely physically weak but this man was tall and had two large arms that came out of his large amounts of robes. The robes were shades of yellow and blue. This one had a plan for her.

"Hello madame." He was standing there with his mouth agape and soft sounds were coming out of his mouth. He was yawning.

"Next up with the wheel, it's going round and round and now it's landing on, Fighting!" The announcer was happy. So much about it that he could feel himself smiling as he gazed at the arena. "You may now begin!"

The case was simple. If Holden's backup plan didn't work, he would have to just roll over and accept his fate. That was the simple part of the backup plan.

"I hear you're good at this." Selena for all she was worth, she could certainly read a person. Holden had a temper and his magic wasn't all that. "Let's just hope to have fun."

As she spoke, something came from above, it was a small ball of light that nearly blinded Selena. When she moved her hand up, she could see that there was something strange about this floating ball, it had sent sparks flying from it.

"Nice, a lighting ball. Did you know they're a scientific mystery?"

She knew everything going on but she had to play the damsel in distress for the audience. That could wager assistance later on in the tournament.

Even though this lightning ball wasn't a super uncommon thing, she tried her best to be versed in everything she could. She was a highborn lady after all!

"That was a distraction."

She was shocked to find that the lightning ball had taken all of her focus and had given Holden enough time to show up behind her with the concealed magical treasure, blunt ax. The ax wouldn't place a dent in her but for almost an entire second, she was a regular person and reacted how a normal person would react. That being screaming and trying to run away.

See, Holden Nicks was an alright magician. His magical understanding was nice. Sometimes he forgot spells. On the off chance he even had been able to do more than ten in one day! But today, he was doing something that hadn't been done before. See, he had a sponsor on this round. That being another fighter. Neither of them had done this before. If Selena were to get the upper hand, Holden would have to use the abilities given to him by the man known only as Temple.

"Nice move."

She sidestepped to the left and barely dodged the ax. Even if she had been hit, what kind of lady would allow her dress to get wrinkled so easily? As he brought the ax back, he made a hand movement and clutched the robe closely before two lightning balls came out of them. Selena was beginning to get tired of this man and his silly magic.

"Much thanks. But I must say that you're very good for a witch who I've never heard of."

Selena found that she could ask only one question.

"How did you become the greatest magician"

"To be honest, I'm not that good at it. But what I am good at is some good old combat."

He was a barbarian with a good education. Such a thing was odd. Especially when you consider the fact that he became one of the most well known sorcerers in history. The most well known just so happened to be on the bad's side and even he paled when placed in a room with Selena. In some cases, she could be compared to the likes of a mythical beast.

"Thank you for telling me your weakness." The sorcerer sent another lightning ball and before he could yet again give himself away, Selena was able to figure out that the lightning balls were meant as a form of landmine for her. Another thing that crossed her mind was how Holden would grab his robe every time he made a spell. Just like poker, fighters had a tell. And every man's tell would come again.

"Just try and get through here!"

She repeated a spell she hadn't used in quite some time. That was how she could enter any home. She called it the intruder's game. But it was a simple thing. She never told another soul what she did but knew enough not to speak about the other spells.

"What is my reward for this wager?"

Gasps exited the crowd and a shot of fear entered Holden. He wasn't going to lose. Not now, not when he was needed. But even if he lost it didn't matter to the good, they needed the morale of one victory and were able to get it. Even if he was to get the victory it would only matter in the sense that things would be equal now. He couldn't do something like that!

"Victory, I assume."
