Chapter 162 - Counterattack

As the foremost yaksha under Rex Lapis, Bosacius's combat prowess was beyond question. Even with his lost memory, even plagued by karmic debt, facing ordinary monsters was like slicing through vegetables. No matter how many, they posed no real threat to him.

But the monsters they now faced were different from the scattered groups earlier. Their numbers and strength far exceeded those of the common creatures. Even Bosacius found himself struggling against these elite monsters. It troubled him greatly.

Fortunately, he was not fighting alone this time. Thousands of Millelith soldiers and the shamans who had accompanied him fought alongside him. Together, they repelled another charge.

Though they had won again, looking at the battlefield strewn with monster corpses and the wounded and fallen Millelith, no one could feel joy.

Seeing this, Boyang took the initiative to speak to the Millelith commander. "My name is Boyang, and this is Rongzhao. We are shamans living near the Chasm. This brother is a yaksha. He has lost his memory and does not recall his name."

Hearing this, the commander's expression softened slightly. But when he heard the word "yaksha," his face instantly changed. As a commander of the Millelith, he understood well the weight of that word and the power of the yakshas under Rex Lapis. That a yaksha had come to help at this critical moment strongly suggested he had been sent by Rex Lapis himself.

But then Boyang told him the yaksha had lost his memory and forgotten even his own name. That hardly mattered. The moment the commander saw Bosacius, his gaze grew serious. The yaksha's tattoos, the countless scars covering his body, his powerful build—all of it told the commander that this was no ordinary yaksha. He was a seasoned warrior, a fighter born for battle.

The commander said seriously, "Thank you for coming. Without your help, the Millelith's casualties would have been much higher."

Boyang replied, "Don't stand on ceremony. We came for the same reason as you—to protect Liyue. By the way, what is the current situation? How many monsters are still out there?"

Having just arrived, Boyang was already assessing the situation. Though the last wave had been numerous and fierce, it was clearly not the monsters' main force. Behind them, more monsters were surely pouring into the Chasm.

The commander's expression grew somber. "I don't know. Every time we finish off one wave, another appears. I've lost count of how many waves we've fought."

His face was heavy, but his eyes were bright and resolute. Guarding the Chasm and resisting the monsters was Rex Lapis's order. Even if it meant death, they would fight to the last.

Hearing this, Boyang's expression also darkened, his brow furrowing. They had been fighting for so long, and they still did not even know how many monsters there were. If this continued, every Millelith here might die.

They needed a strategy to deal with the monsters at their source. Boyang asked, "Commander, do you know where these monsters are entering the Chasm? Have you investigated their route of invasion?"

For Boyang, this was crucial. Only by understanding the monsters' origin and nature could they formulate the best battle plan. The commander had thought of this too. In fact, before Boyang and Bosacius had arrived, he had already sent out scouting parties to circle around the Chasm and find the monsters' source.

The results had shocked everyone. These monsters were not coming from neighboring Sumeru or Natlan. They were emerging from within the Chasm itself—from a crack in a mine vein. They had poured out and nearly overrun the entire Chasm. If not for the Millelith guarding the area, they would have already broken out and invaded the heartland of Liyue. The whole nation might have fallen.

When Boyang raised the question, the commander told him everything the scouts had discovered.

Hearing this, Rongzhao was shocked. "Impossible. The Chasm is all ore. There has never been any record of monsters here before. They can't be coming from within the Chasm itself."

The commander was not surprised. He had been equally incredulous the first time he had heard it. But it was true. The disguised Millelith scouts had seen with their own eyes countless monsters emerging from the crack in the mine vein.

As everyone reeled from this news, Boyang spoke gravely. "There's only one explanation. Beneath that mine vein, there must be a spatial rift connected to the fallen ancient nation of Khaenri'ah. If that is true, countless more monsters will pour into the Chasm, and all of Liyue will become their playground."

At his words, everyone was stunned. If Boyang's speculation was correct, then the forces they had—these Millelith soldiers, the newly arrived shamans, and the nameless yaksha—were nowhere near enough to hold the Chasm. Staying on the defensive would be a slow death.

So the Millelith commander made a resolute decision.

They would counterattack.

They would strike back at the monsters. If, as Boyang had said, there was a spatial rift beneath the mine vein, they would destroy it, cutting off the source of the monsters. Only then could they hope to defeat them completely.
