Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Did They Fight Their Way Through?

A peripheral Greenskin garbage city in the heart of the desert.

A chaotic 'city' constructed from scrap steel, wood, sheet metal, and even bones.

Greenskin excrement was everywhere on the ground, mixed with sand and soil, giving rise to clumps of Greenskin fungus.

A few'Squigs'—creatures with legs attached directly to their heads—hopped and bounced around the fungus. Then, the sound of heavy footsteps approached. Like puppies spotting their master, the Squigs joyfully leaped towards the source.

A massive steel-clad foot promptly kicked one of the Squigs flying.

The remaining Squigs, seeing this, grew even more excited. They eagerly chased after their unfortunate companion, tore it to pieces in the distance, then returned, leaping excitedly with pieces clamped in their jaws.

But their master was no longer there. He had already walked into the densely packed tide of Greenskins.

"Here, it's Waaagh! enough!"

"Here, there are endless fights for the Greenskins!"

The towering Greenskin Boss. The Greenskin Boyz were already larger than Mortals, but compared to this Boss, the Boyz seemed like children standing before a giant.

Raising his exaggerated steel claw prosthesis, entirely modified from scrap steel, the Greenskin Boss known as'Steel-Claw' made his declaration. It was met with the frenzied cheers of the densely packed Greenskin Boyz below.

But as soon as the cheers began, Steel-Claw raised his hand again to silence them.

Gazing down at his endless horde of Greenskin Boyz and the dense outer rings of speeding bikes and junk vehicles, Steel-Claw, under the gaze of countless agitated Greenskins, took a heavier breath:

"That human, he's Waaagh! too, but..."

"He ain't as Waaagh!!! as me!"

His voice suddenly boomed, a violent roar erupting from his exaggerated maw.

The excitement forcibly suppressed in the Greenskins below was released by this roar. The Greenskin tide covering the hills and plains began a fervent Waaagh!

Amidst the fervent, earth-shaking Great Waaagh!, Steel-Claw, his body seething with fury, descended from the high platform.

Brutally shoving aside any Boyz in his way, his steel-encased body squeezed through the green tide like a giant of iron.

"That human is nearby. Let's go show him who's the most Waaagh! around here!"

At Steel-Claw's command, the already primed Greenskin tide erupted with an even more fanatical battle cry.

A dense mass of Greenskins, mixed with hordes of bikes and vehicles, scrambled to leave the garbage city.

Countless large feet trampled the desert. Their fanaticism for war made them jostle and crowd each other, even fighting amongst themselves for a better position at the front.

Overhead, a large number of single-seater helicopters, cobbled together from scrap with almost no protection, also surged forward with fervor.

Finally, this agitation and fervor converged, piercing the sky as they charged towards the edge of the desert.

And in the distance, was where Sith was!

In the direction the fanatical Greenskins were charging, on a flat stretch of desert, smoke rose from the earth. Scattered Greenskin Boyz fled in panic in all directions.

And where the Boyz were fleeing from, hundreds of thousands of Greenskin corpses, along with numerous destroyed bikes and vehicles, littered the entire landscape.

Scattered human soldiers walked among the corpses. They leaned on their rifles, their bodies trembling from exhaustion.

Gasping for short breaths, eyes nearly unfocused, they searched the corpses for any comrades who might still be alive.

Not far away, the wreckage of a Leman Russ, engulfed in thick flames and buried under mounds of Greenskin corpses piled around it, exploded violently.

The surviving soldiers instinctively looked. In the firelight, atop another mountain of corpses, a figure still stood.

Looking at this figure, the soldiers' unfocused eyes finally gathered a point of clarity.

They lacked the strength to cheer, yet the soldiers still straightened slightly, casting looks of reverence towards Sith and the mountain of Greenskin corpses beneath his feet.

Black smoke swept across the land.

Sith's chest heaved like a bellows, drawing in and expelling the pungent air with great force. Each rise and fall brought a searing burn to his lungs.

Raising his eyes to look into the distance, the battle had just ended. Yet, amidst the smoke, it seemed an even greater Greenskin war cry was faintly echoing from deep within the desert.

Sensing the gazes of the soldiers around him, Sith dared not sit down. He withdrew his gaze from the deeper desert and looked at the soldiers still moving below the mountain of corpses.

Of the hundred thousand who entered the desert, half were already gone.

And every soldier who had persevered to this point now had a fierceness and ruthlessness in their eyes, enough to make even Greenskins feel fear.

In fact, the Greenskin corpses spread across the surrounding land were proof of their combat prowess.

A bike sped rapidly from the outskirts of the battlefield. Moments later, Bruno, his black uniform wrapped in bandages, gritting his teeth and mustering his last bit of strength, arrived at the foot of Sith's position:

"My lord, another, even larger horde of Greenskins is charging from deep within the desert."

Clenching his jaw hard, the muscles in Bruno's face twitched slightly. After all, these Greenskins seemed endless. In the days since entering the desert, it was almost a cycle of finishing one batch only for another to arrive.

No matter how many were killed before, more always surged from behind.

Even worse, as word spread and the Greenskins learned there was a group of particularly Waaagh! humans here, more and stronger Greenskins crazily rushed to fight.

So much so that they attracted Steel-Claw, who possessed an entire garbage city of his own and had become a Greenskin Boss.

Sith lifted an eyelid slightly in the direction Bruno pointed, then withdrew his gaze. With a light leap, he jumped directly down from the mountain of corpses.

Seeing Sith leap directly down from a corpse pile dozens of meters high, Bruno's eyes towards Sith held a hint of evasion.

For some reason, Bruno felt that after fighting Greenskins for so long, his own combat strength had improved rapidly.

But Sith, on the other hand, was even more exaggerated.

In fact, after each time they crushed a Greenskin force, it wouldn't be long before Sith became noticeably stronger.

*Hiss~*

Thrusting his saber into the sand, Sith took a deep breath, his breathing steadying considerably.

"We're about to leave the desert. There shouldn't be any more Greenskins after this horde."

Bruno still kept his eyes lowered, not daring to look directly at Sith:

"Then what should we do now...?"

Bruno wanted to suggest if they could rest.

Hearing this, Sith glanced around. Although his face maintained the cold resolve of a Commander, inwardly he sighed helplessly.

The soldiers' stamina had reached its limit. They truly needed rest desperately.

But Sith looked at the soldiers, then at the sandstorm rising in the distance, and still did not relent.

Because Sith could see clearly, it wasn't a naturally formed sandstorm, but dust kicked up by the sheer number of Greenskins!

"Move out immediately. Neither the xenos nor our supplies will give us much time."

Bruno's eye twitched. Looking at the still exhausted soldiers around him, facing Sith who had already turned and taken the lead in marching forward, he mustered his courage:

"My lord, at least let the soldiers take five minutes to eat..."

Bruno spoke with some trepidation, but Sith did not turn back. Only a calm voice came from his retreating figure:

"They can eat the compressed starch while marching."

Bruno: "..."

On the battlefield, the surviving soldiers quickly gathered. Surrounding the last few supply vehicles, they continued hurrying towards where the main force was located.

Deep within the sea of sand, the sandstorm formed by Greenskins slowly drew closer. And on the distant horizon, a towering Hive City, piercing the sea of clouds, gradually revealed its silhouette.

But at this moment, within the Hive City, numerous eyes were drawn to the surging approach of Steel-Claw. However, as they looked towards Steel-Claw, soon all gazes were pulled towards a figure who should not, and could not, have appeared.

At this moment, silence reigned in the Hive City command center. Monitors covering the entire hall were focused on one direction from all angles.

Because in that direction, a human Legion was slowly emerging from the sea of sand.

A horrified whisper broke the dead silence:

"They..."

"Did they fight their way through???"
