Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Absurdity

Leap, swing the blade.

A body amplified a hundredfold, and the musings of hundreds of millions of Orks after a hundredfold increase.

Sith transformed into a human cannonball amidst the seemingly paused stillness.

Then, to the Brain Bug's disbelief, the saber sliced through its extremely fragile body.

A large amount of dim blue glowing fluid splattered from its massive head, and Davi Luo, who had been suspended in mid-air, suddenly fell to the ground.

A soul-piercing shriek echoed, and the countless Genestealers, who had been lurking outside, all let out a wail of sorrow before finally crossing the boundary and charging even more frantically towards Sith.

The veterans immediately returned fire, while Davi Luo, who was closest, looked at Sith in front of the Brain Bug's massive corpse, a clear look of disbelief in his eyes.

It wasn't just Sith, but also the group of Thousand-War Veterans who were unleashing terrifyingly precise firepower outwards.

Because even Davi Luo, when facing the Brain Bug's psychic attack, had a momentary hesitation, retreat, and even fear!

But Davi Luo had seen clearly that the Brain Bug had launched more than one attack on Sith and his veterans, yet no matter how the Brain Bug used its abilities, Sith and his soldiers showed no reaction!

Instead, they looked at the Brain Bug with a strange expression, wondering why it, clearly lacking close combat ability, insisted on approaching to its death!

Davi Luo could accept one or two Mortals with wills as firm as steel.

He wasn't the kind of person who believed Astartes were inherently superior to Mortals, so he could accept that powerful individuals also existed among Mortals.

But he couldn't accept that a random battlefield he went to, and a random group of Mortal troops he acquired, would actually have every single one of them be a superhuman with a will of steel!

After all, even from the perspective of the entire sector, gathering a hundred or so individuals with wills strong enough to directly ignore psychic attacks would be almost impossible.

And now, such an impossible thing had actually happened to Davi Luo!

Watching Davi Luo collapse on one knee, staring at him in shock, Sith hadn't yet realized the exaggeration of this matter.

After all, in Sith's view, those few questions just now were simply questions.

He was instead puzzled by Davi Luo's reaction.

But now was not the time to ask. Sith raised his hand and fired, letting a Bolter fire pass by Davi Luo's ear, blowing the head off a hybrid Genestealer that was trying to sneak up behind him.

Then, looking at Davi Luo, whose eyes had regained some focus due to the explosion, Sith helplessly spoke to Davi Luo:

"Sir, if we don't leave now, the intelligence we've gathered will be wasted!"

Reminded not to forget the mission, Davi Luo finally steadied himself.

He gave Sith a deep look, with a hint of inexplicable frustration that puzzled Sith, and Davi Luo finally refocused his attention on the mission.

"We can return. The Genestealer corruption on Alert Star is more severe than we imagined."

Davi Luo said as he got up, reloaded his Bolter, and gripped his Chainsword.

Outside, boundless Genestealers, enduring the firepower, charged ferociously.

Relying on their endless numbers and fearlessness of death, they were constantly compressing the control zone of Sith's veterans.

The firing net grew smaller and smaller, until a steel giant, having removed his helmet and wielding a Chainsword, suddenly leaped and cleaved into the Genestealer tide.

The veterans were stunned, while Sith, holding his pistol and saber, walked from behind the veterans to the very front.

Turning to face the veterans who were looking at him, Sith also reloaded his magazine:

"Now, let's kill our way back!"

...

The battle in the Upper Hive continued, and even intensified as the 'rebels' suddenly let out a collective wail of sorrow.

The 101st Regiment, which had barely been able to hold its ground, began to be pushed back to the top of the tower by the endless fanatic 'rebels'.

Bruno looked at the frenzied enemy tide before him. Although no news had arrived yet, everyone still looked towards the elevator.

Time passed minute by minute, and the Genestealers in front were completely berserk.

Despite the endless onslaught, even with soldiers frantically pulling triggers at the front, and artillerymen desperately unleashing barrages behind them.

The 101st Regiment was still retreating slowly and powerlessly.

It wasn't until a sudden electronic communication from Ana came through Bruno's earpiece that Bruno's eyes snapped open, and he finally turned to give orders:

"Everyone retreat to the top of the tower!"

"The passages?"

"Since we can't close them, then blow them all up!"

Bruno's order was immediately carried out. The soldiers, tempered by the bloody battle, began to retreat in an orderly fashion, coordinating with each other.

The artillery also fired more fiercely, covering their retreat with barrages.

Violent explosions began to erupt in several passages that truly could not be closed in an orderly manner. Accompanied by the collapse of heavy steel, the entire passages were completely blocked.

It wasn't until all passages were closed or collapsed that the soldiers returning from the bloody battle leaned against the passages, panting, to rest.

Bruno and Ana were already standing in front of the elevator, watching it rapidly ascend.

Soon, as the gears began to slow, the spacious elevator car returned to the safe top of the tower.

However, looking at the ascending elevator, the excited soldiers who had just finished the bloody battle and felt themselves grow stronger, instantly fell silent.

The elevator, made of heavy plastisteel, was now covered in visible breaches, not only from gunfire but also dense, claw-like scratches all around it.

Furthermore, almost the entire elevator was drenched in blood, and what returned before Sith was an intense smell of gore.

The soldiers exchanged glances, and faced with such a terrifying sight, they even began to slowly raise their weapons.

But as the elevator doors opened, a pile of grotesque, dead Mutants, like stacked dead fish, tumbled out.

The soldiers raised their weapons in alarm, but behind the Mutants were not more enemies, but Sith, covered in wounds, standing on a mountain of corpses that filled the entire elevator, and behind him, more than seventy veterans.

Looking at the piles of bodies directly beneath the feet of these grim reapers, and the blunted blades of Sith and his men, even Bruno couldn't help but swallow dryly.

No one dared to speak at this moment, until Sith flipped down from the towering pile of corpses, facing these 'legends' who were so exhausted they could only pant, the densely packed hundred-battle new recruits behind Bruno all cleared a path.

Sith walked to the open space in front of the command post.

He plunged directly into the large bucket of clear water that had already been prepared.

Blood and grime instantly dispersed in the clear water, and the world in the water became serene. The heat from continuous fighting was instantly relieved by the coolness.

It wasn't until several minutes later that Sith finally raised his head, his eyes alive again, but none of the surrounding soldiers were paying attention; instead, they all looked up at the sky.

Sith was startled, followed their gaze, and what he saw also made him slightly stunned.

In the deep blue sky, the firmament was covered by the Imperial Navy!

The ships glittered under the sun, like a river of stars wrapped around the orbit.

Endless drop pods streaked across the sky like meteors, and the radio beside him, after a burst of intense static, broadcasted an inspiring voice.

"Warriors of the Imperium, rejoice!"

"The God-Emperor has dispatched his angel, Chapter Master Calgar of the Ultramarines, to your skies."

"All Hive Cities on Alert Star are now under absolute Imperial control, with only a few weak xenos hiding in the desert..."

The announcer's majestic voice, accompanied by music, continuously spread. These words reached Sith's ears, and he believed that the people and defenders of the Hive Cities who were still in safe zones, with information completely blocked, would undoubtedly erupt in thunderous cheers under such propaganda.

But Sith's location was not a safe zone. In Sith's ears was the glorious propaganda of the Departmento Munitorum, yet before his eyes, in the monitor just a wall away, were hundreds of millions of howling Genestealers.

Even beneath the Hive City, an ever-growing Ork horde was tearing apart humanity's last defenses in the wilderness amidst a world-shaking Waaagh!

The pleasant sounds in their ears and the harsh reality before their eyes brought a tremendous sense of absurdity to Sith and the others on the tower top.

The crowd gazed at the fleet in silence, only Sith watched the fleet above, proclaiming victory while simultaneously unleashing extermination lances upon the completely fallen Hive City!

In the distance were pillars of light piercing the sky, and beside him were Davi Luo's frantic signals sent upwards.

Sith withdrew his gaze from the magnificent spectacle, refocusing it on the clear water before him.

Ignoring the external clamor, Sith submerged himself once more.

In the clear water, Sith's world was 'peaceful'.

Outside the clear water, the chaotic battle on Alert Star had finally officially begun!
