Chapter 20 - The Vane Dynasty

One month later, the grand terrace of the Vane Estate was bathed in the golden glow of a setting sun. The chaos of the boardroom coup felt like a lifetime ago. Silas was gone, the board was silent, and the "Ice Queen" had become a legend—not for her coldness, but for her brilliance.

Xavier stood by the stone railing, looking out over the gardens he once thought were a prison. He was wearing a new suit, tailored perfectly to his frame, but his hands—the hands that had smashed the Ming vase and driven the getaway SUV—were still steady and strong.

"Thinking about the streets?" a soft voice asked behind him.

He turned to see Seraphina. She looked radiant, the stress lines around her eyes finally gone. She carried two glasses of sparkling cider and a small, leather-bound folder.

"Thinking about how much can change in thirty days," Xavier said, taking a glass from her. "A month ago, I was a debtor. Now, I'm the man the paparazzi follow every time we leave the house."

"They follow you because you're the only man who ever stood up to a Vane and lived to tell the tale," she teased, leaning her head against his shoulder. "And because the world is obsessed with the way you look at me when you think no one is watching."

Xavier pulled her closer, the scent of her perfume—now mixed with the warmth of the sun—filling his lungs. "And how do I look at you?"

"Like I'm the only person in the room," she whispered. "Even when the room is full of billionaires."

She handed him the leather folder. Xavier opened it, expecting more legal documents or another contract. Instead, he found a deed. A deed to a state-of-the-art community health center in the heart of the neighborhood where he grew up.

"It's already funded for the next ten years," Seraphina said, her eyes searching his. "I want you to run it. No more fake contracts, Xavier. This is real. This is your legacy, and mine."

Xavier stared at the paper, his throat tightening. He had started this journey to save his family's debt, but he was ending it by saving thousands of others. He looked at the woman beside him—the woman the world called cold—and saw the heart he had fought so hard to find.

"I have one condition," Xavier said, closing the folder and pulling her into his arms.

"Another condition?" she laughed. "You're starting to sound like a CEO."

"I want the 'Lifetime Extension' on our marriage contract," he said, his voice dropping to a whisper. "No more 365 days. I want every day. I want the board meetings, the scandals, the basement secrets, and the quiet mornings. I want it all, Seraphina."

Seraphina didn't answer with words. She stood on her tiptoes and pressed her lips to his, a kiss that tasted of freedom and a future they had built together.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the lights of the Vane Estate flickered on, one by one. The golden cage was gone. In its place stood a home. And for the first time in his life, Xavier wasn't running. He was exactly where he was meant to be.
