Xavier stood at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, surrounded by the people of his old neighborhood. Mothers held their babies, and old men shook his hand with tears in their eyes. For the first time, the Vane name wasn't associated with cold boardrooms, but with hope.
"You did this," Seraphina whispered as they watched the first patient walk through the doors.
"We did this," Xavier corrected.

"The board tried to block your funding again this morning," the lawyer said. "But the public support is so high that the Prime Minister himself has signed off on a national expansion. They want ten more of these centers across the country, managed by you and your husband."
Seraphina looked at Xavier, her eyes wide. "Ten more? Xavier, that's... that's a lifetime of work."
"I told you," Xavier said, pulling her into his side. "The contract has a lifetime extension. I think we're going to need every second of it."
