Chapter 62 - The Memory of Onitsha

The drive into the heart of Onitsha was a blur of neon lights. Alexander kept his eyes on the rearview mirror, his hands tight on the steering wheel. We were deep in the city now, far from the polished marble floors of the mansion where I had spent months playing the part of his "Hidden Husband."

"Where exactly are we going?" Alexander asked, his voice low.

"To my mother's old firm," I replied, checking the small silver locket I kept hidden in my pocket—the only thing I had left of her. "She was the lead auditor for your father's company. She found out that Aunt Catherine was funneling money into offshore accounts long before the merger."

We pulled up to a weathered building. I stepped out of the car, adjusting my jacket. As a man entering this world of billionaire secrets, I had to be twice as careful. My mother had taught me that survival meant staying one step ahead.

Inside the dusty office, Alexander looked at a photo on the desk. It was my mother and his father. "They were partners," he whispered.

"And that's why I signed that contract with you, Alexander," I said, looking him in the eye. "I didn't do it just for the money. I did it because Catherine destroyed my mother's career to hide her own crimes. I'm here to take back what she stole."

Suddenly, a car door slammed outside.

"They're here," Alexander said, his jaw tightening. He reached for my hand, pulling me toward the back exit. "We have the ledger. Now we just have to get out of here."
