Chapter 41 - 41

"Okay, Sergei plans to send me to restart the Executive Training Center. Before that, an inspection team will be dispatched. I'll arrange for you to get on the train, then pick you up. After the train has an accident, we'll forge your death certificate. That should be enough." Eddie planned to use the plot to help Annette leave Umbrella and escape all surveillance.

"You really are a jack-of-all-trades, Spencer trusts you a lot." Annette teased him. Hearing the good news, her mood brightened considerably. Her beautiful eyes gazed at Eddie, sparkling with an unknown thought.

"Just making a living, that's all. If you have anything, you can pack it up, and I'll arrange it then. Oh, and during this time, be careful not to get into trouble." Eddie reminded her. One more person they could recruit was one more.

Annette curved a charming smile. "Don't take me for a scientist who's out of touch with the world. I'm not to be trifled with!" She then pulled out a pistol. It seemed she always carried a gun, Eddie just hadn't seen it before.

"Alright then, I'll be going." Eddie nodded.

"Wait, you can leave a bit later." Annette closed the door and took out a bottle of red wine. In high spirits, she wanted to have a drink with a friend.

Three hours later, Eddie left the underground laboratory. His responsibilities were growing heavier; it seemed he needed to find more opportunities to make money. He truly hadn't expected the T-Virus to also increase the chances of conceiving. Before the enhancement, it was all up to luck, but now it was a sure shot.

Across half of Raccoon City from the underground laboratory, in The Hive Laboratory beneath the Arklay Mountains, stood a tall figure with an exceptionally ugly face, one eye even stitched shut.

This was France's latest research project, one of the few successful Nemesis. It was restrained on the operating table with steel chains to prevent the test subject from rampaging.

"Hmph, this is a true bioweapon. This product is more mature and violent than the so-called G-Virus." William's assistant, Daniel, surprisingly appeared here, his eyes filled with fervent excitement. Having the opportunity to oversee this project, he felt he had already reached the pinnacle of his life.

The Nemesis is a more violent bioweapon than the Tyrant, similar to the Ivan-type Tyrant. The difference from a regular Tyrant is that they can use weapons! Fists are definitely no match for bullets; that's an unchangeable truth.

Crack! The Nemesis on the operating table suddenly awoke. Opening its eyes, a surge of violent emotion began to spread, and it struggled to stand up, but it was chained.

The surrounding researchers were startled; the Nemesis's appearance and towering size instilled great fear.

"Don't be afraid. Continue the experiment and get him ready for deployment as soon as possible." Daniel snorted, though he himself had been startled.

"Director, the Resistance Plan can begin. Should we start now?" A person in a white coat approached, submitting a document.

Daniel took the document and flipped through it. "Wait a while first. I'm busy right now. Don't let those test subjects die; don't let them wake up yet."

The Resistance Plan was a project to test a new type of serum, to see if it would only activate under certain conditions, remaining dormant otherwise. This serum could slowly modify the human body's structure when not severely injured, a research project Spencer particularly valued.

Meanwhile, in William's laboratory, Wesker came to find William.

"I encountered some things today. Sergei is targeting me. I have already made plans to leave Umbrella, and I need your help," Wesker said without hesitation.

"How do you need me to help you?" William asked, frowning.

"I need a serum that can make me appear to be in suspended animation, preferably one that allows me to get back up after suffering severe damage," Wesker stated what he wanted. He had originally planned to disappear after a certain incident, but now it seemed that wouldn't work. Ordinary people could use that trick, but he couldn't.

Sergei would keep a close eye on his every move; that guy would definitely not let him leave Umbrella so easily.

"That's a rather high demand." William frowned, resting his right hand on his chin, observing the data on the computer.

"Is it that difficult? Your escape route allows you to leave smoothly, but we can't both go to the same place; it would be too dangerous. You never put all your eggs in one basket," Wesker sneered.

"I can help you develop this serum, but it will take time." William nodded. He didn't want to refuse his only friend.

"I have samples here; you can take them. Also, a word of advice: that Daniel is absolutely not a good person. You'd best be careful. He frequently enters Spencer's office. If you consider him one of your own, I don't need to tell you the consequences." Wesker offered this information as a form of payment.

"I know. I've been prepared for a long time. No one can scheme against me! I am the smartest. The G-Virus is my life's work; no one can take it from me." William laughed maniacally.

Chapter 65: The Mayor's Daughter's Plea

William would never know that Annette had already betrayed him. The G-Virus, the fruit of his life's blood, was easily taken by Annette, and he was still kept in the dark!

The T-Virus gave Eddie rapid recovery abilities. His usual eight hours of sleep now only required four or five, effectively cutting the time in half.

"Hi, Eddie, do you have time? Let's go out for breakfast." A call came in, and it was Katherine, the daughter of the Raccoon City mayor.

Eddie was puzzled. Why was Katherine calling him? In his memory, aside from her tragic fate, he had no other impressions of her. Wait, it seemed Ben, whom she had a crush on, had also been corrupted and driven away by his money offensive. "Yes, I have time. Is something wrong?"

"Just simply asking you out for a meal to thank you, is that not allowed? You've been quite busy lately, the great hero who solved the Arklay Mountains murder case. Are you really that busy? Can't you spare some time for a meal?" Katherine said with a slight pout.

"I have time, of course I have time." Since a beautiful woman was inviting him to eat, Eddie wouldn't refuse. Moreover, he could guess that Katherine definitely had something urgent to discuss. If the opportunity arose, he wouldn't mind saving this poor beauty.

Outside a Western restaurant on the pedestrian commercial street, Svetlana sat in her sports car, her beautiful eyes fixed on the man and woman eating inside. She wondered why this man was so popular. The answer was that women generally preferred to befriend talented and capable men.

Katherine had dressed up carefully today, in a cool casual top, strappy high heels, and light makeup. "You're really hard to get a hold of."

"It's normal, career comes first." Eddie didn't argue; he had been quite busy with social engagements lately.

"I also like to make a career for myself; it's just that I'm on holiday right now." Katherine wrinkled her dainty nose. It was rare for a rich young lady like her to not have an arrogant and overbearing temper.

"What's your profession?" Eddie realized he really didn't know much about her, only remembering her youth and beauty as a positive trait, and nothing else.

"A teacher! A middle school teacher. Have you forgotten? I even saw you a few days ago when you went to pick up Sherry Birkin." Katherine rolled her eyes, clearly exasperated with this man.

"Alright, Teacher Katherine, is there something you need from me? We're so familiar, there's no need to be polite." Eddie cut his steak. He felt hungry just smelling the food.

Katherine suddenly lowered her head, seemingly sobbing softly. "Waaah, I've found that everything I knew was fake. But I don't have the ability to expose it all. I don't know what to do. You were the first person I thought of."

Eddie felt very confused. "Hey, don't just cry. You at least have to tell me what's wrong. Crying as soon as you arrive won't solve anything."

Katherine sobbed for a while, then wiped her tears and said, "I found out that my father is helping someone cover up some criminal activities, and the perpetrator is from Umbrella. I once told my father, but he said that eighty percent of this city was built with Umbrella's investment, and he has no ability to solve it."

Eddie had thought it was something serious, and he said very solemnly, "What's wrong with that? Human relationships are like this everywhere. With the right connections, you can solve your troubles."

"But I can't stand it, especially Chief Brian. He takes bribes and is extremely cruel, beating citizens!" Katherine frowned.

"That's beyond my scope to solve. You should perhaps go to the Independent Commission Against Corruption." Eddie spread his palms helplessly. This was almost common knowledge; Raccoon City was practically a city built by Umbrella, and everyone from top to bottom was Umbrella's person. It was almost impossible for any variables to appear here.

Even as a transmigrator, Eddie couldn't change Raccoon City's fate. Spencer was determined to set a trap for the forces that had encroached upon Umbrella's shares, and as a major trap, Raccoon City just happened to have a T-Virus leak, which could only be described as running into a machine gun.

"But that Ben, he's back again. He's threatening me, saying he'll send out some evidence of my father's bribery, to ruin my father's reputation. I don't know what to do, I'm so confused, Eddie, can you help me?" Katherine's expression was somewhat pained; it was clear she was struggling to choose between justice and family affection.

"Is that so? Then just leave him to me. But I can't work for free. What kind of compensation can you offer me?" Eddie nodded, then asked a very pointed question.

"Ah! Compensation? I don't have money." Katherine was startled. Didn't he say they were friends? Why was he asking for money?

"Money or anything else will do. If there's no benefit, why should I help you with this?" Eddie said bluntly. He wouldn't work for free, even if the other party was a beautiful woman. Unless this beautiful woman was his wife, then a husband helping his wife was only natural.

Katherine was silent for a moment. "Eddie, let me ask you something, what do you think I should do?"

Eddie rolled his eyes. "That's up to you. Do whatever you feel in your heart. I'm not you, how would I know? In my opinion, both choices are fine."

Katherine stared into Eddie's eyes, and after a long time, she sighed, "I can't abandon my father. My father has given so much for this city; it's his life's work."

Eddie knew that the brilliant and mighty mayor had, during the outbreak of the crisis, when the military forces had sealed off Raccoon City, taken the opportunity to board a helicopter and fly away, abandoning his own family.

From this perspective, the upper echelons of Raccoon City were not humane at all, at least the agents below held their ground until the very last moment, until they were completely annihilated.

"Alright, it seems I'll have to step in. But you owe me a favor, and you'll have to repay it someday." Eddie tilted his head, a triumphant expression on his face.

"Whatever you ask, I will agree to it!" Katherine nodded. She was very happy that her friend Eddie could help her, even if it was for a fee.
