Chapter 46 - 46

Alex also understood this point. She harbored immense hatred for Spencer, as she was artificially cultivated and had no parents. In this regard, she was just like the genius Alexia from the Antarctic Research Facility, having been deceived for decades. Upon learning the truth, she would absolutely not forgive her enemies.

Eddie accurately grasped this point before confronting Alex, and successfully turned her against Spencer. The situation was already at its worst; any further deterioration would only mean a different way to die.

Alex, outwardly indifferent, began developing her private projects behind the scenes, appropriating the resources Spencer sent her. She would occasionally provide some good news to ensure a steady supply of materials.

"Is the master very pleased?" asked Patrick, the butler who had served Spencer for decades.

Spencer nodded, the ocean stretching outside the window. "That child Alex brought good news. How are things with Sergei?"

"Sergei discovered traces of Marcus, formed by leeches with Marcus's memories. They have been repelled for now and cannot be eliminated. However, he proposed a plan to restart the Training Facility and is already assembling an investigation team," Butler Patrick said respectfully.

"Hmph! Send all those rats in there. The Training Facility isn't so easy to restart. Give Eddie the order to eliminate Marcus! Doesn't he want revenge? Give him the chance now!" Spencer sneered, his ruthless nature immediately sending all the spies into the Training Facility.

"Understood, Master," Butler Patrick nodded.

"I'm tired, you may leave," Spencer instructed, coughing a few times. Finally, he picked up the newspaper on the table, which featured news about the brilliant Excella's invention of an anti-cancer drug.

This news alone caused Tricell Pharmaceutical's shares to skyrocket by hundreds of levels.

Eddie and Alex both seized the opportunity to buy into Tricell's shares when they were at their lowest, just as Umbrella was inventing new drugs. They had already made a fortune!

If Wolf Mom Ruper knew that the so-called golden card Eddie gave her, supposedly containing 300 million, actually held less than 300,000, would she beat him to a pulp?

A credit card without funds can still be overdrawn and repaid. Banks love clients who have money, like to borrow, and are punctual in repayment! Clearly, Eddie was the kind of client all major banks desired.

"Anti-cancer drug?" Spencer, wearing his reading glasses, looked at the news, his brows furrowed. He had a bad feeling.

"Patrick, use the Travis Family's connections to make those useless people realize who the purest bloodline truly belongs to," Spencer commanded through the intercom.

"Understood, Master!" Patrick's tone remained respectful. The Spencer Family had a long history, and such truly noble families often had loyal servants.

Spencer's idea was simple: he knew Excella was not a pure Travis Family member. A woman of European-African descent, wanting to rise to power? She probably didn't understand what nobles valued most.

Even with ability, she could only be a servant, providing nourishment to the core family. Even if a family member was useless, as long as their bloodline was pure, they had their purpose.

At the Raccoon City Police Department, Eddie had already clocked in. The Arklay Mountains were temporarily sealed off, prohibiting civilians from entering to prevent the situation from escalating.

Eddie, at work, wasn't studying documents but watching the stock market, focusing on the shares of several major pharmaceutical companies. Tricell Pharmaceutical's shares had begun to soar, leaving other pharmaceutical companies far behind.

Then, a striking company appeared before Eddie's eyes: Shenya Pharmaceutical! Another pharmaceutical company developing biochemical weapons, though its reputation was not yet prominent at this time.

Rebecca suddenly leaned over, as if they were an intimate couple. "Eddie, what are you doing? So curious?"

"Looking at the stock market. I'm out of money, so I need to earn some," Eddie didn't hide it. Looking at the stock market at work? Isn't that normal, especially since there's nothing else to do?

The members of the S.T.A.R.S. were accustomed to Eddie's behavior. This guy was a capable and generous rich second-generation. It was normal for him to think about making money at work; otherwise, where would he get the money to treat them to drinks after work?

"So, what do you see?" Rebecca blinked her beautiful eyes. Her sixth sense told her that this man's true intention wasn't about the stock market at all.

"I've got a good feeling. I'll be counting money in the next few days, or I won't be able to support my family. Didn't Jill tell me to take good care of you? If I don't make some money, how can I buy you new clothes?" Eddie chuckled. In reality, he was just waiting for the right time to sell off Tricell's shares.

No matter how high the stock price, it was just a bunch of numbers. Converting it into real money was what mattered most.

Eddie looked at the bill on his phone, tears welling up in his heart. Jill was currently purchasing baby supplies and firearms, spending her free time researching and assembling more powerful weapons.

Wolf Mom Ruper's shopping list was even more extravagant, including various means of transportation and employment fees. Additionally, there were two crazy female researchers in the mountain villa working on new drugs, incurring heavy expenses.

If he weren't short on money, Eddie would never bow to the evil of capitalism. It smells so good!

"Hmph, I don't want your money! And don't you have any bold ideas. I'm asking you, how do you detoxify this poison?" Rebecca almost got sidetracked, but fortunately, she reacted in time.

Everyone smiled without speaking. Perhaps Rebecca really could become a couple with him. It's best to just observe other people's affairs and not say too much, or you'll become annoying. In the Federation, it's not impossible to legally have a second wife; just pay a little more tax.

In short, with money, anything is possible; without money, nothing is possible.

Eddie suddenly had a bold idea. He had always overlooked Rebecca, who was actually a medical doctor with great talent in this field. Why shouldn't he recruit her to his team?

Chapter 74: Recruiting Rebecca

In a high-end Western restaurant, Eddie treated Rebecca to a meal. The environment here was very suitable for conversation. Only in such a public setting could they reduce surveillance, and their appearance as a young couple could also lower their profile. No one would enjoy staring at a couple; are single people looking for abuse?

"Eddie, why did you suddenly invite me to a place like this for dinner?" Rebecca lowered her head shyly. This was a famous couple's restaurant. What was this guy thinking, eating here? Shouldn't he be with Jill?

Eddie chuckled, "Because it's safe to eat here. You know, I used to work at Umbrella, and Umbrella has so many competitors. Sometimes, it's normal for private detectives to snap photos of me."

Rebecca covered the lower half of her face, smiling sweetly, her beautiful eyes curving into crescents. "You're such a narcissist, praising yourself. Alright, why did you ask me here? You don't really have any bold ideas, do you?"

Facing the beauty's teasing, Eddie was fearless. "I wish I did, but I don't have the chance!"

"Haha, you're really interesting." Rebecca laughed and changed the subject. She didn't have such thoughts at this stage; she was only eighteen.

"I'm not joking, I'm serious. I plan to do things I like to do in the future, Rebecca, have you ever had a dream?" Eddie said earnestly.

"A dream? My dream is to study medicine, and I want to unravel the mysterious diseases appearing in the Arklay Mountains. I still don't know what caused those monsters, and I want to use my knowledge to solve all these mysteries." Rebecca's character was as excellent as her appearance!

Soon, a waiter brought the dishes. However, there were so many orders that an extra dining cart was temporarily added to hold the prepared food. The waiters were a bit bewildered. Ordering so much food at a Western restaurant—was it because they had too much money and nowhere to spend it? They could eat burgers until they dropped at the fast-food restaurant across the street.

Rebecca was unfazed. She knew this man was special and had a particularly large appetite. The world is vast and full of wonders; being able to eat a lot was not a big deal.

"That's a great dream, but first, you need to have your own research facility to study what you want to study," Eddie nodded.

Rebecca's small face immediately fell, and she said with a hint of melancholy, "Yes, building a research facility costs a lot of money."

"Don't worry about that. I have a plan recently. I'm saving money, and perhaps in half a year or a year, I will establish my own research facility to develop drugs. Currently, there are still many diseases that cannot be treated, and I have many unsolved mysteries about the human body. I really want to explore life, and if possible, I even want to research ways to live longer," Eddie said with a confident smile.

"Live longer?" Rebecca tilted her head, looking puzzled and adorable. "That sounds good too. Do you have that much money? That would require hundreds of millions as startup capital!"

Eddie nodded. "Of course, I never do things I'm not confident about. I've found some like-minded friends, all of them stunning beauties. Now I want to invite you to join this research team. We all share the same dream and can continue to pursue it."

Rebecca nodded, then suddenly thought of something. "Wait, why are there several stunning beauties? What exactly are you thinking? Are you looking for beautiful women, or do you want to research science?"

Eddie's expression was helpless. He spread his hands and said, "I can't help it. All the medical and genetic engineering doctors I know are women. I don't know any men, and their career ambitions are quite strong; they're unwilling to give up the high salaries Umbrella offers."

Rebecca's expression was triumphant. Even she was proud to be a woman. Women can hold up half the sky, a subtle form of flattery. "You're quite lucky then! I just wonder what Jill would think."

"What thoughts could she have? She's also a great beauty, a stunning beauty. Alright, let's not talk about this topic. Are you interested in joining? In the lab, you can assist us in developing our projects, or you can research your own desired projects. Either is fine," Eddie smiled.

Rebecca pondered for a moment before asking, "Are there any requirements?"

Eddie knew the main event had arrived; she was tempted. "Yes, though it's not really a requirement. It's just that you're not allowed to date or marry within fifteen years, because drug projects take a relatively long time. These things can distract you, so I don't recommend having a boyfriend."

Rebecca rolled her eyes. "That's an outrageous demand!"

Eddie waved his hand. "Not at all outrageous. I'm offering a salary of 100,000 dollars a month, which can increase each month based on project progress. And you can use all materials, instruments, equipment, and resources. You don't need to worry about any of that. If you can think of it, you'll have it."

Rebecca counted on her fair fingers, calculating something. "So, I wouldn't be able to get married until I'm thirty-three?"
