Chapter 149 - 149

Chapter 248: Eddie's Insidious Scheme

"My goodness, what happened here?" Sienna looked at the chaotic scene, took out her sniper rifle, and began to support the battlefield.

"I am Jettingham, captain of the Marine Corps' Echo Six Team. We are on a mission, and it looks like you could use our help." Jettingham went through the procedures with the soldiers there to avoid being attacked as an enemy.

Caroline sent a mutated soldier flying with a roundhouse kick, then drew her dagger and slashed it through the air, cutting an infected bat in half.

All sorts of monsters appeared, guided by Umbrella personnel to lie in ambush nearby: sand worms, zombies, mutated animals, and even giant alligators lured out of the sewers.

Eddie led the women to an office building in the Waste Disposal Plant, where it was at least a bit safer.

Animals still rushed in, but relying on the building, they could effectively counterattack and avoid being fatally rammed by these mutated creatures.

"We are under biological weapon attack, requesting reinforcements, requesting reinforcements!" A Federal Guard soldier contacted Command via car phone.

The next second, he felt the lights suddenly dim. Looking up, a gigantic elephant's foot descended from the sky, crushing him, his car, and himself into a meat pie.

After the surprise attack, even the regular Guard found it difficult to defend. Despite having rocket launchers, they couldn't effectively kill the enemies. There were too many, especially with Hunters dispatched by Umbrella causing chaos, making the situation even more confusing.

Bang, bang, bang! Inside the building, machine gun fire continuously echoed. The mercenaries previously hired by Umbrella had moved supplies and ammunition upstairs, using the building for defensive attacks.

In such a large-scale situation, if Lisa went up, she could easily subdue that elephant. After all, Lisa's strength was almost comparable to an elephant's.

Eddie did not let Jessica and Lisa show off. He even reminded Svetlana and Ada not to overperform. This was not their time to shine.

"Keep a low profile, solve problems with firearms if possible. Unless it's a small monster, don't display your strength. Don't ask why, understand!" Eddie said with a serious expression.

Moira seemed to half-understand. She looked at Eddie's serious eyes and decided not to ask further. If it had been Barry saying this, she would have definitely pressed for answers until the end.

"He's worried that we'll perform too well and be noticed by others. In general, when faced with such situations, most scientists conduct slice-and-dice research. To avoid being sliced, we should just listen to Eddie." Emma smiled sweetly.

"Oh, so that's it. I was wondering why he suddenly became so conservative." Moira nodded. She was only rebellious, not foolish; she was also a woman with a brain.

That was just one point. In reality, Eddie wanted to further escalate the hatred between Umbrella and the Western Federation. A peninsula war only killed a few hundred soldiers; that was a large-scale war.

Yet, a single operation in Raccoon City had already resulted in over a thousand soldier deaths. Even Simmons couldn't cover up such a huge hole!

The fallen soldiers would undoubtedly spark protests and demonstrations. Not finding a scapegoat would be an injustice to the federal citizens, and it could very likely lead to the current administration's downfall.

Direct confrontation was impossible; it wasn't as fun as scheming behind the scenes.

Svetlana seemed to have guessed the man's thoughts and couldn't help but glance at him again. What a cunning plan. She was an Eastern Slav, and indeed had no fondness for the Western Federation; how it was schemed didn't matter.

Meanwhile, inside the Waste Disposal Plant, the dim lighting meant they could only rely on tactical flashlights to observe the situation.

A small team of soldiers walked along and suddenly noticed water dripping from the ceiling. Wiping it, they discovered it was all blood!

Looking up, they saw several eyeless Lickers above, with dark green skin, different from naturally mutated ones, and larger, more prominent claws.

Bang, bang, bang, the well-trained squad members immediately opened fire. However, the Lickers quickly crawled away, and when they reappeared...

The firing soldiers found themselves still shooting, but eerily saw their own legs, as if they were flying further and further away, eventually losing consciousness.

Several Lickers began gnawing on the fresh prey. The remaining soldiers watched, their scalps tingling. What kind of monsters were these?

Similar encounters occurred in several other places. Each location had a large number of discarded bioweapons arranged by Sergei, all failed products. Since they were to be destroyed, they were simply left there to fend for themselves, and could even take down a few Guard soldiers. Why not?

The four entrance gates were completely sealed. A force of about five hundred men had entered the Waste Disposal Plant. Unless they reached the central control room, they couldn't get out. The towering walls, over thirty meters high, were topped with extensive barbed wire, precisely to prevent undestroyed experimental subjects from escaping.

These Guard members who entered the Waste Disposal Plant could only steel themselves and press forward. No matter how many traps lay ahead, they had to break through.

Sergei had already returned to the control room in front of the sulfuric acid pool. Spencer still watched with great interest as the Guard members were slaughtered one by one. "Well done. This way, even if the Federation wants to trouble us, they'll have to think twice."

"It's not enough. I plan to keep them all. I've already attracted the most elite and promising monsters from Raccoon City. We can definitely create even better weapons." Sergei sneered, his left arm crossed, his right hand propping his chin, exuding a cunning and seasoned air.

"Very good. When the company restarts, it will be up to you. As long as your branch doesn't have any accidents, no one will know the address. Do well. The world of new humans needs you to manage it." Spencer continued to brainwash him.

"Yes, Chairman!" Sergei's eyes flashed with a hint of fanaticism. This was war, a war for human evolution. As a warmonger, nothing attracted him more than war.

"I just met Albert Wesker. He has defected to another organization. Which organization, I'm not sure yet, but I will investigate." Sergei added.

"It seems he's preparing to go against me. That's truly regrettable news. Next time you meet, don't hold back!" Spencer sighed, but in his heart, he strangely wondered if Alex would also betray him!

Chapter 249: Heavy Casualties for the Guard

Nearly two hundred Guard soldiers remained outside the Waste Disposal Plant, but they were dispersed in four directions. By the time the remaining soldiers from the east, west, and north came to reinforce, the soldiers fighting valiantly in the south were almost all dead.

The survivors retreated to nearby buildings to resist the surging tide of zombies and Zombie Dogs. The swift Zombie Dogs were most terrifying at night; often, you'd only glimpse a shadow, and the next second you might be bitten.

There were still many zombies in the building. After Eddie cleared a room, he led the women to hold their ground there. Jessica and Lisa, the two formidable female bodyguards, had been by his side the whole time, with few opportunities to show their skills.

"It's only three hours until dawn. Things will be much easier to handle then." Eddie checked the time, deciding to rest here and take it easy.

"What good will dawn do? Those zombies won't just disappear. If they all come into the building, it will still be quite dangerous." Svetlana frowned.

"At dawn, the Federation will send reinforcements. That's when we'll withdraw. We can't leave with the Federation's people. That bastard Simmons will absolutely use that time difference to frame me; he already made a move earlier." Eddie analyzed.

Using special methods at a special time, with so many people watching, attacking the police was not a wise choice, especially attacking Federal Guard soldiers. No matter what, it would put them at a disadvantage.

"So we don't need to take the opportunity to leave?" Moira blinked her beautiful eyes.

"Pretty much. That's why I told you to rest. When the time comes, we'll retreat. Let the Federation's people deal with this headache!" Eddie stretched, finally able to leave Raccoon City. The sky is vast, and the birds can fly freely!

"Simmons is actually so despicable!" A hint of disgust flashed in Ada's beautiful eyes. She disliked that man more and more. He used to appear like a gentleman, but now he seemed nothing more than a hypocritical scumbag.

"None of those politicians are clean. This is normal; if they're not dirty, they can't be politicians. It's just a matter of not meddling in affairs beyond one's position. Sometimes, being a little dirty is quite good." Eddie smiled, this was a preemptive warning.

"You're quite dirty yourself!" Ada snorted, seemingly recalling his affair with Karena.

Thump! Thump! Thump! A knock came from the door. Jessica went to open it, revealing a valiant female agent standing outside—it was Rita!

"Eddie, those soldiers want to arrest you. They're already questioning Marvin. Marvin didn't say anything, he just said he got separated from you. You should leave quickly, don't let them find you." Rita said worriedly.

"These are soldiers obeying Simmons. It's fine, they can't get up here. Soon they won't have time to look for me." Eddie looked out the window at the rampaging elephant. That thing could only be brought down by heavy firepower; small handguns were useless against it.

Rita hesitated, then asked worriedly, "Eddie, is what happened in Raccoon City related to you?"

"What do you think? While I might be a bit of a scumbag, that's just enjoying coffee and chatting with girls. I haven't stooped to the level of joking with the lives of hundreds of thousands of people." Eddie's tone was dismissive.

"I'm sorry, Eddie, it's not that I don't believe you, but the search warrant those soldiers had looked very real." Rita apologized. She didn't believe it either, but just wanted to hear Eddie's own defense; otherwise, she wouldn't have come to warn him.

"It's okay, this is normal. I should thank you for coming to tell me. Be careful yourself. This period is the most dangerous. If you want to leave, you can follow me. I won't wait until dawn. Everyone here belongs to Simmons; you can't trust them." Eddie suddenly reminded her.

Rita nodded, "Okay, I'll go back first. Call me when it's time. As long as we get out of Raccoon City, I'll have my father help you. No one can falsely accuse you."

"Thank you!" Eddie smiled. It seemed saving her wasn't in vain; at the critical moment, she still knew how to repay kindness.

The elephant below had already begun to rampage, destroying the ground-floor buildings. Even assault rifle shots only chipped away some flesh from the elephant's body, unable to cause fatal damage.
