Chapter 3 - His Prison

The door clicked shut behind her, the sound slicing through the silence. It was the sound of finality.

Her breath hitched as she turned to face the room, but there was no escaping the weight of what had just happened. What had been done to her.

Sold.

She hadn't imagined it. She hadn't hoped for it. Her guardian—her protector—had really signed the papers, and just like that, her life was no longer hers.

Her soul was no longer hers.

Her fingers curled into fists, the fine fabric of her dress wrinkling beneath her grip. She took a step forward, feeling her heart beat harder in her chest with each passing second.

She had been betrayed by the one person who had promised to protect her. The man she had trusted more than anyone. The man who had raised her.

How could he do this?

Her gaze shifted toward the luxurious surroundings, but they meant nothing to her now. The soft golden lights, the elegant furniture, the massive bed draped in silk—everything screamed luxury.

But she wasn't free.

No, she was trapped.

The room was a cage, and it didn't matter how beautiful the bars were. They were still bars. And she was still trapped.

Her heart pounded in her chest as she glanced out the window, the city skyline glimmering in the distance. The view should have been breathtaking, but all she saw was her own reflection in the glass—the reflection of a woman who had been sold.

Her fingers curled slowly into her palm, nails digging into her skin. "A cage is still a cage… no matter how pretty it looks," she muttered bitterly.

A soft knock on the door interrupted her thoughts.

A maid entered, her presence almost as cold as the walls around her. "Miss… if you need anything—"

"I need to leave," she snapped, cutting the maid off.

The words were harsh, but they were the truth. She needed to leave. She needed to find a way out of this twisted game.

But how?

Her heart ached as she realized the door had been locked. She was truly trapped. There was no escape.

The maid hesitated for a moment before quietly backing out of the room, leaving her alone with her thoughts and her growing sense of desperation.

The silence pressed in on her as the minutes stretched into eternity. Damien hadn't even spoken to her since the car ride. His silence was deafening, and the air between them felt thick with unspoken words, with the weight of something dangerous that she couldn't put into words.

The thought of him—of what he had done to her—made her chest tighten. She hated him, and yet…

There was something else. Something she couldn't ignore.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of footsteps outside the door.

Before she could react, the door opened, and he walked in.

Damien.

She barely contained the instinctive shudder that ran through her at the sight of him. He was the same as always—unaffected, cold, his eyes unreadable. But there was something in the way he looked at her this time, something darker, more intense. As if he knew everything about her without her saying a word.

He shut the door behind him, his presence filling the room completely.

She didn't move.

"You've been quiet," he said, his voice low and steady.

"Should I speak?" she shot back, her words laced with bitterness. "What's there to say? You've sold me like some object."

His eyes flashed, but he didn't move. "I didn't sell you. I gave you to someone who will take care of you. Someone who understands the value of what you are."

She felt her breath catch in her throat. Value?

"You're not property," she snapped. "You can't treat me like this."

Damien took a step toward her, the distance between them narrowing, his body radiating an unspoken dominance. "But you are mine."

The words felt like a punch to the gut. She staggered back, shaking her head in disbelief.

"No. I am not yours. I'm not anyone's," she said, her voice wavering with anger and fear. "You can't own me. No one can."

Damien's gaze darkened, and he moved closer, his presence suffocating. "I already do," he murmured. "And you'll come to understand that in time."

She stood frozen, her mind racing with the overwhelming realization that she was caught in something far more dangerous than she had ever imagined.

Her fingers trembled as she fought to steady herself, her breath coming in short bursts. She had no choice. There was no way out.

He was right.

She had already been owned.
