Chapter 31 - Chapter : The Ghost Swap Protocol

[RAW SYSTEM INTERFACE: MISSION ACQUISITION]

[OBJECTIVE: SEIZE NUCLEAR POWER SOURCE - 'THE OMEGA CELL']

[LOCATION: THIKA ROAD TUNNEL - COORDINATES SYNCED]

[THREAT LEVEL: OMEGA (HIGH-ALTITUDE SURVEILLANCE DETECTED)]

The notification didn't just appear; it screamed into Kaelen's neural link, a jagged burst of crimson data that blurred his vision for a fraction of a second. It felt like a physical strike to his cerebral cortex.

[SYSTEM ALERT: STEALING NUCLEAR POWER SOURCE DETECTED. MEET AT WAREHOUSE IMMEDIATELY.]

Inside the Industrial Area warehouse, the air was thick with the scent of ozone and unwashed grease. The Old Man wasn't laughing today. His eyes, usually clouded with age, were now sharp like a hawk's. He stood before a flickering 3D hologram of a heavy-armored transport truck—the "Iron Whale." It was a rolling fortress, shielded against everything from EMPs to armor-piercing rounds, carrying a cargo that could power a city or level one.

"Kaelen," the Old Man said, his voice dropping to a gravelly whisper as he looked at the boy who had once been a mere laborer. "You proved your worth at the Museum. From this moment, you are the Group Leader. Mike, Kevin, Kora—you move on his mark. He is the Architect of this hit. Bring me that power source, or don't bother coming back. Hii si mchezo ya watoto tena. Hapa ni kifo au utajiri. " (This is no longer a children's game. Here it is death or wealth.)

Kaelen stepped forward, his [ARCHITECT VISION] already dissecting the blueprint. "The convoy has tight air supervision. Reapers are circling at five thousand feet. We can't hit it in the open. We hit it in the Blind Spot—the Thika Road Tunnel. It gives us exactly five minutes of darkness. Five minutes to rewrite reality."

The Subaru Sprint

[VEHICLE STATUS: SUBARU WRX STI - STAGE 3 TUNE]

[DRIVER: KEVIN]

[TECH SUPPORT: KORA (REMOTE OVERRIDE ACTIVE)]

The Subaru's boxer engine screamed, a raw, guttural howl that echoed off the buildings of Museum Hill as Kevin slammed it into fourth gear. They were weaving through the midnight traffic like a blue streak of lightning, the speedometer climbing past 160 kph. The car was a masterpiece of illegal engineering, its exhaust spitting blue flames that illuminated the dark asphalt of the highway.

In the passenger seat, Kora's fingers were a blur over her glowing mechanical keyboard. Her face was pale, sweat beading on her forehead as she fought the government's encryption.

" Hii gari iko na mbio mbaya! " (This car has a very bad speed!) Kevin grinned, his knuckles white on the steering wheel as he dodged a slow-moving petrol tanker. " Kora, fungua njia! Sitoi mguu kwa mafuta leo! " (Kora, open the way! I'm not taking my foot off the gas today!)

" Nyamaza na uendeshe, bwege! " (Shut up and drive, fool!) Kora snapped back, her eyes tracking the convoy's GPS signature. "I'm ghosting our signal, but the military firewalls are pushing back. Kaelen, we are approaching the tunnel entrance. Convoy is 200 meters ahead. They're moving in a tight diamond formation."

Mike was positioned on a pedestrian bridge overlooking the entrance, his thermal scope tracking the heat signatures of the escort vehicles. "The eyes are in the air, Architect. Two Reaper drones circling. You have exactly five minutes once that truck enters the tunnel before the satellite re-acquires the thermal lock on the other side. Usicheze na time, Kaelen. " (Don't play with time, Kaelen.)

"Copy that," Kaelen said, his IQ processing a thousand variables a second. "Kevin, engage the Tunnel Swap Protocol. Sasa!" (Now!)

The Five-Minute Miracle

The armored truck entered the darkness of the tunnel, its massive tires humming against the concrete. This wasn't a robbery; it was a surgical extraction.

Kaelen had prepared the "Double Truck"—an exact replica of the Iron Whale, stolen from a government yard and painted in secret with radar-absorbent matte black. As the convoy entered the 2.5-kilometer stretch of the tunnel, Kora triggered the high-frequency jammer hidden in the Subaru's front bumper.

[SYSTEM ALERT: SIGNAL DAMPENING ACTIVE]

[ELECTRONIC WARFARE: 98% EFFICIENCY]

[TIME REMAINING IN BLIND SPOT: 04:59]

"Sasa!" (Now!) Kaelen commanded.

Kevin performed a terrifying high-speed drift, sliding the Subaru directly in front of the lead escort car. The guards slammed on their brakes, tires screaming and smoking as they narrowly avoided a pile-up. In that split second of confusion, Kora sent a "Logic Bomb" into the truck's onboard computer.

Inside the truck, the ventilation system hissed. A concentrated, odorless tranquilizer gas, triggered remotely by Kora's hack, filled the pressurized cabin. The driver slumped over before he could even reach for his radio.

"Auto-drive engaged," Kora whispered, her eyes rolling back as she synced her mind with the truck's CPU through her neural interface. "I'm the captain now. Gari ni yangu, wao wamelala. " (The car is mine, they are asleep.)

In the middle of the tunnel, shielded from the drones' view by layers of reinforced concrete and lead lining, the swap happened. The team moved with the precision of a clockwork mechanism. They moved the Nuclear Power Source—a glowing, pulsating cylinder of blue energy—from the real truck to their hidden getaway vehicle.

Kaelen stood in the center of the chaos, his [ARCHITECT VISION] counting down the seconds in glowing blue numbers. "Three minutes left! Mike, watch the rear. Kevin, move the dummy truck into position!"

The real driver was slumped in the original truck, which was steered into a maintenance alcove hidden behind a heavy steel curtain. The "dummy" truck, now driven by Kora's automated program, exited the tunnel on schedule, flanked by the confused escort cars who thought the brief slowdown was just a minor mechanical glitch.

The Mayday

Five minutes later, the "dummy" truck began to veer toward the shoulder of the highway outside the tunnel. The escort guards hopped out, their hands on their holsters, confused by the lack of response from the driver.

The leader of the security detail ripped the door open and saw the unconscious pilot. He sprinted to the back, heart hammering against his ribs, and threw open the heavy reinforced doors.

Nothing. Only empty racks and the lingering, metallic scent of ozone.

" Maidai! Maidai! " (Mayday! Mayday!) he screamed into his radio call, his voice cracking with terror. "The power source is gone! It vanished in the tunnel! Repeat, the Omega Cell is gone! Tumegongwa vibaya sana! " (We've been hit very badly!)

High above the chaos, the Subaru was already miles away, disappearing into the labyrinthine side-streets of Githurai. Kaelen sat in the back seat, the glowing blue power source at his feet, illuminating his face like a digital god.

[MISSION SUCCESSFUL]

[IQ MILESTONE: MASTER LEVEL REACHED]

[INFLUENCE: +500 POINTS]

[NEW ATTRIBUTE UNLOCKED: NUCLEAR ARCHITECT]

" Tumewapanga safi, " (We played them perfectly,) Kevin laughed, slapping the steering wheel. "Those guys are probably still staring at the empty truck like idiots, wondering if ghosts took the cell."

Kaelen didn't laugh. He looked at the blue glow reflecting in his eyes, feeling the sheer power of the Omega Cell vibrating through the floorboards. "The eyes were in the air, but they weren't looking at the right truck. They were looking at the plan I wanted them to see. Hii ni mwanzo tu, sasa mchezo inaanza kuwa moto. " (This is only the beginning, now the game starts to get hot.)
