Somewhere back in the mortal world, the morning sun streamed through the thin curtains of Amy's apartment, casting a pale golden light across the bedroom. Amy lay awake, staring at the ceiling, a smile playing on her lips.
In the end, it all worked out, she thought. I'm so excited.
She pressed her hands to her face, suppressing a giddy laugh. It felt surreal. Like a dream she was afraid to wake up from.
Her phone buzzed on the nightstand.
Laura: Are you awake?
Amy grabbed the phone, her heart fluttering.
Amy: Barely. What time is it?
Laura: Almost nine. I couldn't sleep.
Amy: Me neither. I kept thinking about last night.
Laura: Same. It felt like my wish was granted.
Amy: Me too. I can't believe this is truly happening. Thanks for giving us a chance.
Laura: No, I should thank you. You are the best, Amy, and I am so glad I met you.
Amy: Me too.
There was a pause. Then Laura typed: Can I take you on a date today? A real one?
Amy's heart soared.
