Stein had barely made it up the tree when the Tyrant arrived, reaching up with its legs to climb after them. It had barely begun to climb when its legs failed and it fell back to the ground. Its two front limbs had bloody cuts right on the joints. Stein glanced at Yurim, impressed. How had she managed to wound the Tyrant?
The mad Tyrant wasn't ready to give up just yet. It kept clicking its mouth parts and making attempts to climb up. Stein considered before reaching for the sword hanging on his waist.
Yurim looked from him to the Tyrant, then back to him. "Are you crazy?"
Stein shrugged. The Tyrant was leaving itself wide open to attacks from above. Newbie or not there was a clear chance to attack, one they might never get a again. Stein crept closer to the Tyrant watching it for any signs of an attack.
It's dark eyes locked onto him and it struggled more viciously to climb up the tree. Stein junped to the right just as one of the Tyrant's legs struck the spot he had been crouched on. Another leg swung in his new direction missing and striking a branch above where he was. The Tyrant struggled to pull its leg back, but it had punctured deep into the branch and was firmly stuck. Stein took deep breaths composing himself before drawing his sword and slicing at the joint of the stuck leg,
The Tyrant twisted and struggled in pain. It pulled so hard the tree shook falling leaves, but the limb remained stuck. It was tougher than Stein had expected. He lifted his sword to strike again when a thought crossed his mind. The Tyrant was stuck right now. He hesitated before stepping down from his branch.
The Tyrant hissed, baring its fangs at him before swiping with its second front leg and missing by a large margin.
Stein grinned, it couldn't attack him from, this angle. He lunged forward plunging the sword into the Tyrant's eye. The beast let out a ghastly scream as the tree shook from the Tyrant pulling at its stuck limb while chipping away at the tree bark with its other limbs. Stein pulled out the sword and stabbed again and again and again as quickly as he could until he had blinded all the Tyrant's eyes.
"Good job, crazy," Yurim smiled at him looking impressed.
A loud crack cut off Stein's response as world began to tilt. The tree they were on slowly bent over heading for the ground. Stein braced himself for impact just before it fell to the ground with a loud thud.
Stein's ear ringed and his body tingled from the fall. He winced as he slowly pushed himself up. Loud crunching drew his attention. The Tyrant was now limping around with half a limb, breathing heavily. It lifted its head and let out a moan. Movement caught Stein's attention. A small furry animal crawled out of a hole in the tree. It had barely taken a step when a large pointed object landed on it leaving a gaping whole at the center of its body. The giant object was of course the Tyrant's razor sharp leg.
Stein swallowed. The Tyrant might be blind, but it could still feel vibrations from the hairs on its body. A rising shape from just behind the Tyrant caught his attention. It was Yurim, and she had a finger to her mouth. Stein resisted the urge to roll his eyes at her and say he already knew.
The sword lay by his side. He had barely managed to sheath it while the tree fell. The Tyrant was standing right between Yurim and him. Its soft spot was directly in front of Yurim.
Stein gently lifted the sword. Yurim frowned at him probably thinking he was crazy. Stein made throwing motions at Yurim. Her eyes narrowed, then she glanced at the Tyrant before nodding slowly. Yurim could kill it. All Stein had to do was be the distraction.
He whipped his hand backward, hoping that the Tyrant's attacks would be sluggish enough to be dodge due to its weakened state. Stein then put all the force in his hand before throwing the sword. It whipped across the Tyrant barely making it over the Tyrant's body. The Tyrant reacted instantly, snapping its head in Stein's direction. With leaves all over the forest, it was almost impossible not to make a little noise. Just as Yurim stretched to catch the sword, Stein deliberately stepped on a patch of dry leaves, making a loud crunch to mask any noise Yurim might make.
The Tyrant pounced forward, swinging one of its sharp legs in his direction. Stein jumped backward. Even though he was expecting the attack, the Tyrant was fast enough to brush his clothing, leaving a gash across his shirt. One inch deeper, and it would have met his skin.
The Tyrant limped forward while swinging one of its legs in Stein's direction. He quickly ducked and scambled away, his body brushing the leaves and branches of the fallen tree. Stein got to his feet. He had to stop it long enough for Yurim to attack.
There was a large flexible branch besides him. He quickly got behind it and pulled with all his strength. As the mad Tyrant approached, Stein released the branch, letting it lash the Tyrant right on its mutilated eyes.
The Tyrant stumbled backward from the forcs of the blow. There was a wet squelch as Yurim met it with the sword. With a cry, the Tyrant swung around, blade sticking out of it, it stuck at Yurim, missing. It's panicked spin had positioned the sword right in front of Stein.
He surged forward without thinking, closing the distance in a heartbeat. His hand locked around the sword, and with a cry, he drove it in until the hilt was also burred in the monster.
For a moment, everything stopped.
The Tyrant froze.
Its hulking body trembled, as though struggling to retain the last bit of life in it. It tried to turn, to run, but its legs betrayed it.
It crashed to the ground, limbs folding in on themselves in a grotesque tangle, the life fading away through twitches from its monstrous form.
