Chapter 17 - Poor Children Learn To Care For Themselves Earlier

"What's wrong?"

Christopher could feel Janice's gloominess, so he looked sideways and asked.

Janice sighed. "Christopher, I just made you suffer with me."

Janice felt especially sorry for Christopher. After all, the alcohol was his gift to her father. He had spent so much money on it but had been insulted in return.

At the thought of that, Janice felt really guilty.

Christopher stretched out a hand and rubbed the top of her head.

"It's okay. Don't think too much. You should be thinking about where to eat later."

Janice then remembered that they had left without eating anything. She said, "Let's not eat outside. You bought such an expensive gift and it must have cost you a lot of money. Let's go home, I'll cook for you."

"You know how to cook?" Christopher was surprised.

However, Janice was a little embarrassed. "Not really, but my cooking should be edible."

When they got home, Christopher realized what Janice meant by her edible cooking.

"Is it bad?" Janice stared at Christopher, who had just taken a bite of her food and was frowning, and asked guiltily.

"It's not that it's bad." Christopher forced himself to continue eating.

Upon hearing his words, Janice was relieved and said with a smile, "That's good."

But after her first bite, she could no longer smile. It couldn't be described as bad, it was horrible.

She looked at Christopher and his shoulders were shaking with laughter.

Only then did Janice realize that she had been deceived by him. She said huffily, "You're still laughing. It's my first time cooking, I didn't have any experience."

Only then did Christopher stop laughing.

"I won't laugh anymore. But you'd better not continue to eat it, or you'll get diarrhea."

After saying that, he put away Janice's plate and walked into the kitchen.

Janice felt depressed. If she had known this would happen, she wouldn't have cooked.

She was about to ask if Christopher wanted to order takeout when she saw him standing in front of the stove. He had on an apron and looked like he was about to

get to work.

So, was he going to cook something?

Janice leaned against the door in confusion. She watched him as he went through each step, and it seemed that he's done it before.

"Does Christopher know how to cook?"

Thinking of this, Janice felt a little expectant.

Not long after, two bowls of piping hot egg noodles were placed on the table.

Janice looked at the delicious egg noodles in front of her and was stunned. Did he know how to make proper Asian food? The noodles were of nice color, and each strand was separate. Whenever she cooked them in the past, they stuck together like a glob.

"What are you waiting for? Eat."

Seeing that she hadn't moved, Christopher urged her.

Only then did Janice pick up her fork and eat her noodles. She fell in love with the taste the moment she tasted it. She realized Christopher was really amazing. The noodles he cooked were so delicious.

Janice finished all the noodles and even felt an impulse to lick the bowl.

She stared at Christopher and thought of a saying, "poor children learn to care for themselves earlier". She had done a lot of interviews with poor families. Basically, the children were very sensible and cooked well.

So, did he learn cooking because his family was poor?

Janice suddenly felt sympathetic.

"Christopher, you're amazing."

She gave him a thumbs-up.

Christopher was confused by her actions.

"Christopher, I think you're great. Look at how you know about liquors and is so good in cooking, I think you can develop a career in these areas. Of course this is only my suggestion, so you must strive hard!" Janice encouraged him.

Hearing her words, Christopher almost choked.

...

Only then did he come to his senses. Janice was afraid that he would not be able to find a job, so she was encouraging him to play to his strengths.

Christopher couldn't help teasing her. "Didn't you say you wanted to support me for the rest of my life?"

"Of course."

Janice nodded repeatedly.

Christopher couldn't help but pinch Janice's face. She was really cute.

The next day, Janice was once again treated to a breakfast cooked by Christopher.

She sat at the dining table and looked at Christopher opposite her. The longer she looked at him, the more she felt that she had found a treasure.

After breakfast, Janice went to work at the TV station. On the way, she received a call from Malcolm.

"Janice, don't take what happened last night to heart. If you don't want to go back for dinner, I'll invite you to a restaurant instead. Your aunt's temper can't be changed. Don't mind her."

After listening to her father's words, Janice felt a little better.

She blamed her father for what happened last night. After all, that mother and daughter pair obviously accused her, yet he was indifferent and did nothing.

But thinking that he was her father after all, she got over it.

She only said that she would talk with him after she finished her work and ended the call.

By the time she entered the TV station, Janice was in a much better mood. Along the way, she met many colleagues, and she smiled and greeted them each.

"Janice, you're in such a good mood today."

Janice had just walked through the main door when she heard Lucy White's voice. She turned around and said with a smile, "Yes, I'm in a good mood today."

Lucy stepped forward with a smile. "Something good happened? Share it with me."

Janice smiled mysteriously. "I won't tell you."

The two of them walked in laughing. As soon as they arrived at the door of their office, they bumped into Linda Zimmers', who was walking toward them.

Janice lost her balance, and she hit the glass door. She was in pain, covering her head with her hands. A sharp reprimand came from above her.

"Watch where you're going! What were you thinking?"

Linda rolled her eyes and said rudely.

"Damn, wasn't it you who ran into us?"

Before Janice could speak, Lucy said indignantly.

Linda snorted and said, "No. It was clearly you not paying attention to where you were going."

After saying that, Linda haughtily pushed them away and walked out.

Janice and Lucy looked aggrieved.

"Ugh, how could such an unreasonable person be a reporter? Unbelievable."

Lucy finished complaining as she saw Janice was still covering her head. Only then did she remember to ask, "Janice, are you all right?"

Janice then removed her hand. "I'm fine."

"How can you say it's nothing. There's already a bump. Let's go to the infirmary to deal with it.", Lucy said.

Janice said, "It's okay. Don't have to go to the infirmary. I'll be fine after I apply some ointment."

Seeing that she insisted, Lucy did not say anything.

The two of them sat down in their cubicles.

Their colleague, Amy Jones, came over and said. "Janice, don't pay attention to Linda. She's been having a bad time recently and is ready to snap at anyone."

Hearing Amy's words, Lucy and Janice glanced at her.

"What bad time is she having?" Lucy asked.

Amy glanced around and whispered, "It's that tech entrepreneur people are talking about. He just returned from abroad. I heard that she has been squatting in front of his offices for more than ten days hoping to score an interview, but she didn't even glimpse the guy. She was just scolded by the chief and was looking for a place to vent, and unfortunately it was you girls who suffered."

"So that's what happened."

However, Janice was a little surprised. "Who's the new star? Why haven't we heard about this?"
