Chapter 11 - Pendragon

Lucas and the others watched on as Clara and Aron clashed fists, each clash causing tremendous shockwaves throughout the city. Lucas put his hand above his face to shield it from the incoming debris.

He ran over to where the other members of his cohort stood, his chest heaving, and then said:

"What do we do now? We have to kill a World Eater in order to return, at this rate she'll be the one who kills it."

Karl stroked his chin, turned back to Lucas, and then smiled:

"That's not going to happen. As you can see they're evenly matched and anything can tip the scales in favour of one of them and since we're on Clara's side we can put it in her favour."

Lucas understood Karl's logic, he knew what had to be done, help Clara fend Aron off and then one of them could deliver the finishing blow.

"I know what to do." Deborah said as she aimed her bow at Aron, covering the arrows in Ruin and then shooting it at him, Aron turned his attention to them and easily whacked them away but before he could turn back to Clara she punched him square in the face knocking him back.

Aron kept himself on his feet, he looked at the floor, blood dropping from his nose. Lucas nearly jumped for joy but had to keep his cool, this was a life or death situation which needed to be taken seriously.

He beckoned to Karl and held him on his shoulder:

"Light him up."

Lucas walked over to David who was sweating profusely, his body seemed to be deteriorating. Lucas felt a slight pang in his chest as he stared at the young boy who was fiercely loyal to him.

David smiled at Lucas and said:

"What do I do?"

"Nothing." Lucas replied. He knew David was the one, the one who Deborah said would die and this wasn't easy for him to process. He had grown close to the boy within this short period of time.

David's smile didn't waver but the brightness had vanished from his eyes, he was still optimistic and enthusiastic but his body might give out before he could do anything and Lucas noticed this.

Lucas turned back to the fight as he heard the snapping of fingers, he saw Aron in flames. Although the damage was minor, the damage the flames were doing to his core could not be understated.

Aron tried to power through and attacked Clara with his body still covered in flames, she swerved to the side, dodging his attack. Karl continuously snapped his fingers which made the flames rise even higher and the damage being done increased.

"Karl! Stop!" Lucas screamed. Karl heard and then stopped snapping, the flames dissipated and he could see Clara's fist completely covered in reddish-black energy, she delivered multiple punches to Aron's midsection, punching again and again and again.

Aron coughed up blood, he couldn't believe it. Someone like himself, someone who embodied a concept being damaged by a human.

Deborah smiled, seeing her grandmother piece up a World Eater.

"Deborah, I'm sure you can see what her faculty is." Lucas said to her, she nodded.

"Her faculty is called Worthless." Deborah said.

"Worthless?" Lucas asked, clearly surprised by its name. Although he didn't have much experience in this field, it still was a very strange name for one to have as a faculty.

"What does it do?" He asked, as the battle raged on around them, Lucas's eyes moved to where David sat, he saw the boy trying to get up, he wanted to go stop him but then remembered he was only delaying the inevitable.

"Worthless just makes any ability or attack she comes into contact with or whatever ability or attack that comes into contact with her worthless." Deborah explained.

Lucas understood the basics of it, any attack or ability that was used against her won't work or it'll be rendered "worthless".

Now he understood why she was able to touch Aron when he was just destruction, she made his powers worthless.

Lucas looked back to where David sat and the boy was no longer there. Lucas turned his head around and saw David with a metal pole in his hands, he walked over to Karl and put his hand on Karl's shoulder.

Lucas noticed something interesting, he wasn't deteriorating, if anything he looked fine. Then Lucas remembered, Ruin was formed from negative emotions, the higher the negative emotions the higher your Ruin density and now he was sure David was feeling one emotion. Fear.

Fear of death, that was the only emotion that David was most definitely feeling. Lucas watched as David told Karl:

"Turn it off."

Karl understood what he meant and then stopped snapping his fingers. David charged at Aron with his weapon in hand, Clara still pummelling him with her bare fists.

David swung the pole at Aron's chest but he had the awareness of mind to slap him and his weapon away. Lucas noticed that, his eyebrows furrowed. Why would Aron defend himself from a measly attack like that and from his chest no less?

'His core.' Lucas thought, the creature's core was in its chest where its heart should be.

"Deborah! Aim for his heart!" Lucas screamed, he ran into the battlefield, Aron noticed their charge and he also heard Lucas scream.

He let out a loud cry, his Ruin energy erupting, sending everyone flying backwards.

Aron stared at the floor for a while, he never thought that something like this would happen to him. His core was almost destroyed, he met his natural enemies in Clara and Karl right here and then he looked at Lucas. Someone he thought was useless was the most dangerous out of them all.

He looked forward and saw a human crawling in front of him, he walked over to him and then he dropped his right front hoof on his back with full force.

David screamed, the pain was unbearable, Deborah shot her arrows at Aron but he caught them with ease before throwing them to the ground.

Karl raised his hands, about to snap. But Deborah screamed at him:

"Don't do it! It'll just burn up David as well."

Clara wanted to charge in as well but she knew that if she did, David would end up as collateral damage.

Aron bent and held David by the back of his neck, the young boy looked at those he had worked with for this short period of time, he smiled at them.

"I hope you won't forget me." David said.

"Oh! About to tell them something before you die?" Aron smirked.

"Even if you do forget my face, you'll remember my name once I tell you this." David started.

"My name is David Pendragon."

As soon as he said that, Aron squished his neck, causing his head to pop off from his body.

"Well… that's a nice turn of ev-" Aron couldn't finish the sentence, a metal pole covered in Ruin energy stuck out of his chest where his last core was, completely destroying it.

"Yeah. Somehow, it was." Lucas said calmly as he pushed the pole further into Aron's chest.

Then the Writ's message appeared

[You have slain a World Eater]
