Suddenly, another voice rang out from outside the room.
"Luigi! We found a car with matching plates at the restaurant next door! He may have parked there and escaped!"
The footsteps in the room stopped.
No wonder Lucas parked next door.
"Really? Let's get them!" the leader ordered.
The heavy footsteps stormed out of the room, disappearing down the hall as quickly as they had come.
I didn't move. My heart was still pounding at the thought that one of them had stayed behind. I held my breath, counting the seconds.
A gruff voice broke the silence, accompanied by a knock on the chest. "You little kids actually attracted thugs to my establishment. Don't be scared—they've all left."
I cautiously pushed the lid open, taking in a deep, shaky breath. The old man stood there, his face lined with both irritation and concern.
"You're the Asian kid?"
