Hearing the sweet sound of the system notification, the smile on Jiang He's face grew wider.
"I win! That was a fun duel!" Jiang He said, mimicking Jaden's signature victory pose and catchphrase as he pointed two fingers at the professor.
"..." Jaden was stunned.
Pfft! Several people in the stands nearly spat out their water.
Everyone screamed internally: Fun? Fun for who?! You God of Topdecking!!
Professor Crowler looked like he was about to have a stroke. He clutched his pink collar and squeezed his eyes shut, forcing himself to breathe.
Mamma mia! How can a human being say such words?! This slacker is the absolute worst! Crowler's mental state was in ruins.
"Er... haha... Examinee 111, Jiang He, passes the exam," the announcer's voice came over the speaker, sounding awkwardly forced as she tried to smooth over the atmosphere.
With that, the result was official.
"Jiang He..."
Nearly everyone in the arena carved that name into their memory. The label "God of Topdecking" was firmly attached to him.
Only Zane Truesdale narrowed his eyes at Jiang He. He was still thinking about that strange aura he had sensed when Jiang He drew his card. He had a feeling that this victory wasn't just a simple stroke of luck.
"It looks like life at the academy is about to get interesting," Alexis Rhodes said with a smile as she watched Jiang He return to talk to Jaden. "A very interesting student has arrived."
"Perhaps," Zane replied noncommittally. He didn't agree, but he didn't deny it either. He gave Jiang He, Jaden, and Syrus one last long look before turning to leave.
"Leaving already? That's Zane Truesdale and Alexis Rhodes," Jiang He noted, recognizing the blue-uniformed figures exiting through the back.
He was the final examinee. Now that his test was over, the recruitment for this year was essentially finished. It wasn't surprising that the elites were heading out.
"All candidates who passed, please proceed to the rooftop. We are preparing for the flight to Duel Academy," a faculty member announced.
"Huh? A flight? Isn't this place Duel Academy?!" Jaden asked, shocked.
"I say... you didn't actually think the main campus was in the middle of a city, did you? It's on an island in the middle of the ocean," Jiang He said, his lip twitching as he looked at Jaden.
Good grief. Even he, an outsider to this world, knew that much. It was common knowledge. And yet this hotheaded idiot a local was completely clueless.
Bastion and Syrus gave Jaden equally bizarre looks. How did this guy beat Professor Crowler?
A short while later.
A large private helicopter emblazoned with the GX Duel Academy logo was soaring across the ocean. Jiang He sat by the window, scanning the interior. Including Jaden, Syrus, and himself, there were only about a dozen people on board.
Zane and Alexis were nowhere to be found; they had likely taken an earlier flight reserved for upperclassmen. Professor Crowler was also missing. He was probably hiding after being defeated twice in a row by freshmen.
Jiang He didn't mind. Crowler was petty, but generally a decent person at heart. Knowing the plot, Jiang He was confident he could handle whatever the professor threw at him.
