Jiang He didn't even do anything this turn.
After drawing his card, he simply gave Alexis Rhodes an "cheerful" smile and announced, "Alexis, I end my turn!"
"That obnoxious guy...!" A vein popped on Alexis's forehead, her fists clenching tight.
She desperately wanted to land a punch right on that grinning face of his!
Even her two best friends standing behind her felt the same fury. They glared at Jiang He, teeth gnashed in shared frustration.
He did absolutely nothing who did he think he was looking down on?!
"My turn, draw!" Alexis snapped, pulling a card from the top of her deck.
At that exact moment, her Life Points which had just recovered to 3000 LP dropped again due to the lingering effect of Lava Golem. Ethereal magma dripped from the massive lava monster standing behind her, striking her directly.
Beep-beep-beep. Her Life Points plummeted by 1000, leaving her at 2000 LP.
This time, however, Alexis's expression didn't flicker. Her face remained set in a dark, brooding scowl.
She looked at the card she had drawn. It wasn't anything that could change the current situation. Despite her burning resentment, she was powerless. She could only stare helplessly at the Obnoxious Celtic Guard, which sat there with its measly 1200 DEF.
Gritting her teeth, she forced out the words, "Turn end!"
The thought of losing another 1000 LP next turn made her blood boil. This was the most stifling, aggravating duel she had ever played!

It was Jiang He's turn to draw once more.
Happily listening to the system notification, he drew his card. He thought for a moment; simply doing nothing like the previous turn probably wasn't a great idea. If he kept this up, he might not even be able to get back to the dorm tonight.
He looked down at the six cards in his hand.
"Kuri-kuri."
An affectionate sound chirped from his hand again. Jiang He's eyes lit up.
If he used this little guy directly in the duel, would it speed up the awakening of the Duel Spirit?
"I summon Sphere Kuriboh in Defense Position!"
Acting on the thought, Jiang He placed the card onto his Duel Disk.
"Kuri-kuri~!"
With a flash of light, a small, brown, ball-like Kuriboh appeared on his side of the field. It blinked its large eyes innocently.

"A monster with 300 ATK...?!" Alexis and her two friends froze.
Then, they all closed their eyes simultaneously, the veins on their foreheads throbbing even harder.
Was this guy mocking them?!
"Whoa, scary! I feel like the fire over there is about to explode...!" Jaden Yuki, Syrus Truesdale, and Chumley Huffington huddled together, scrambling toward the corner of their small boat.
Jiang He took a sharp breath as well. He suddenly realized that his move might have caused a massive misunderstanding...!
Even the summoned Sphere Kuriboh seemed to break into a human-like cold sweat.

"I lose this duel. Now that you've summoned a second monster in Defense Position, there is no way for my current deck to achieve victory," Alexis said, taking a deep breath to stabilize her emotions. She reached out and deactivated her Duel Disk.
She decided she wasn't going to let this obnoxious guy "torture" her any longer.
As she conceded, the massive form of Lava Golem and the cage surrounding their boats gradually faded into nothingness.
Alexis's surrender was calculated. She knew there was no path to a turnaround. At the start of her next turn, before she could even draw, Lava Golem's effect would trigger again, reducing her Life Points to 1000.
Unless she could defeat Jiang He this turn or destroy the Lava Golem on her own field, she was finished. The moment the following turn started, her remaining 1000 LP would hit zero.
But with Obnoxious Celtic Guard and the seemingly weak Sphere Kuriboh forming a double layer of defense, Alexis had no hope. Even with her Lava Golem and the Equip Spell she had drawn earlier which she couldn't even use she couldn't possibly deplete Jiang He's full 4000 LP in a single turn.
Aside from those, the only card in her deck capable of destroying Lava Golem was a Trap Card, which was currently being suppressed by Jiang He's Royal Decree. She had no monsters high-level enough for a Tribute Summon, nor any other outs.
Alexis had already made up her mind. Once she got back, she would refine her deck and sharpen her skills.
Then, she would find this infuriating man and get her revenge!
Next time, I'll definitely defeat him and make him kneel and call me Queen! The fire of a "vengeful woman" burned brightly in Alexis's heart.
"Jiang He won...!" Syrus breathed a sigh of relief, a look of pleasant surprise crossing his face.
However, when he caught the look in the eyes of Alexis and her friends, he and Jaden huddled even closer together, trembling.
Angry women were truly terrifying.
"Hmph! What a classless guy, using that method to provoke his opponent twice in a row!"
"Exactly! Don't get cocky just because you won once by luck! Alexis only lost because she was misled about your deck!"
Mindy and Jasmine snapped at Jiang He, their eyes burning with indignation.
After experiencing this "high blood pressure" duel vicariously, they were certain of one thing: Alexis could never, ever like such an obnoxious guy! They must have misunderstood something earlier!
