Morning arrived quietly.
No alarms.
No ancient voices.
No warnings written across the sky.
Just sunlight spilling between the buildings.
For the first time in years, the city woke up like an ordinary city.
Zayden stood on the balcony of his apartment, a cup of coffee warming his hands.
The silver compass rested in his pocket.
Silent.
He hoped it stayed that way.
A knock echoed from the front door.
He opened it.
Aria stood there.
She wore a simple black coat instead of the ceremonial clothes she had worn for so long.
For once, she looked like a normal twenty-year-old.
"You came."
She nodded.
"You said breakfast."
"I did."
"You never told me where."
He smiled faintly.
"I was hoping you'd help me decide."
She stared at him for a second.
Then, almost imperceptibly...
She smiled.
"You're impossible."
"So I've been told."
---
The café was small.
Warm lights.
Fresh bread.
The smell of coffee filled the room.
Nobody recognized them as heroes.
Nobody bowed.
Nobody whispered.
They were simply two customers waiting for breakfast.
Aria looked around with quiet curiosity.
"I've never been to a place like this."
Zayden looked up.
"Seriously?"
She nodded.
"My life wasn't exactly... ordinary."
A waitress approached with two menus.
"What can I get for you?"
Aria hesitated.
She had no idea what to order.
Zayden noticed.
"I'll have pancakes and coffee."
The waitress smiled.
"And for your girlfriend?"
Silence.
Aria blinked.
Zayden almost choked on his coffee.
"We're not..."
The waitress laughed softly.
"My mistake."
She walked away.
Neither of them spoke for several seconds.
Finally, Aria quietly said,
"I don't know what pancakes are."
Zayden laughed.
A real laugh.
"Then you're trying them today."
---
Across the city...
Kael stood in the rebuilt headquarters.
The old symbols had been removed.
The building no longer belonged to the Order.
It had become the House of Choice, a place where anyone could learn about the history of the contracts and the freedom that replaced them.
The Administrator placed the final record into a glass case.
"No more secrets."
Kael nodded.
"No more lies."
---
Elsewhere...
The First Mistake stood alone beneath the open sky.
Children ran past without fear.
One little girl stopped in front of the glowing being.
"You look lonely."
The being tilted its head.
"A little."
She held out a small white flower.
"You can have this."
The First Mistake accepted it carefully.
"...Thank you."
For the first time in its existence...
It received something freely given.
Not because of power.
Not because of destiny.
Simply because someone wanted to share.
---
Far beyond the stars...
The Keeper watched another light appear on his endless map.
A world...
Without an Anchor.
He smiled.
"They really did it."
The compass on his desk glowed once.
Not as a warning.
As a promise.
"The next journey can wait."
---
That evening...
Zayden and Aria walked along the riverside.
The city lights reflected on the water.
Peace felt unfamiliar.
But welcome.
Aria looked toward the stars.
"Do you ever wonder what's beyond them?"
Zayden touched the compass in his pocket.
"Sometimes."
"And?"
He smiled.
"Today..."
He looked at her.
"I'm exactly where I want to be."
Aria's cheeks warmed slightly.
She looked away before he could notice.
Or at least she hoped he hadn't.
Above them, the stars shimmered.
The world no longer needed an Anchor.
It simply needed people willing to choose tomorrow.
And for the first time...
Tomorrow belonged to everyone.
