Chapter 49 - The Final Layer Opens

The message remained suspended above the battlefield.

THE GATE OF THE FINAL LAYER HAS BEEN UNLOCKED.

No one moved.

Even the clash between the Keeper's silver light and the Null King's darkness faded into stillness.

The sky itself seemed to wait.

Then...

A deep, resonant sound echoed across every Layer.

Not a roar.

Not thunder.

A heartbeat.

Thump.

The floating islands trembled.

Thump.

The stars dimmed.

Thump.

Zayden tightened his grip on the glowing key.

"What... is that?"

The Keeper answered without taking his eyes off the distant horizon.

"The Final Layer."

Aria stepped beside Zayden.

"I thought there were endless Layers."

"There are."

The Keeper nodded.

"But all roads eventually lead to one place."

"The origin."

---

Far beyond the Second Layer...

The colossal gate continued to open.

Inside was no darkness.

No light.

Only an endless white horizon.

As though existence itself had not yet decided what it wanted to become.

The Null King watched it in silence.

"I haven't seen that gate since the beginning."

The Keeper looked at his brother.

"Neither have I."

Captain Lyra frowned.

"What lies beyond it?"

The Keeper hesitated.

Then answered.

"I don't know."

Everyone stared at him.

"You don't know?"

He shook his head.

"No Keeper has ever entered."

"The gate only opens when every cycle reaches its turning point."

Aria's eyes widened.

"So no one has crossed it?"

"Not and returned."

---

The glowing key floated from Zayden's hand.

It drifted toward the gate.

Then stopped.

As if waiting.

Waiting for a choice.

The Null King looked at Zayden.

"It won't move unless you decide."

"Why me?"

"Because," the Keeper replied quietly, "the key recognized the one who broke the cycle."

Silence settled over the battlefield.

Zayden looked toward the distant white horizon.

Then back at the people around him.

Captain Lyra.

Elysia.

The Keeper.

The Null King.

And finally...

Aria.

She already knew what he was thinking.

"You want to go."

"I have to."

She nodded slowly.

"I know."

"But this time..."

She reached into the pocket of her coat and placed something in his hand.

A small silver pendant shaped like a crescent moon.

"You won't go alone."

He looked at her.

"You'd follow me into the unknown?"

A faint smile touched her lips.

"I crossed one world for you."

"I can cross one more."

The Keeper watched them quietly.

Then smiled.

"The Final Layer accepts only those who choose to enter."

He looked toward the others.

"The rest must stay."

Captain Lyra lowered her head.

"Then protect every world you can."

Zayden nodded.

"We will."

The Null King stepped toward the gate.

"I'll come as well."

The Keeper looked at him.

"So the three of us."

The Null King shook his head.

"No."

He looked at his brother.

"The four of us."

For the first time in ages...

The Keeper understood.

Not enemies.

Not rivals.

Travelers.

Together.

A faint smile appeared on his face.

"Very well."

The four stood before the endless gate.

Zayden.

Aria.

The Keeper.

The Null King.

The glowing key rose into the air.

It touched the center of the gate.

A brilliant wave of white light swept across every Layer.

The stars brightened.

The fading worlds stopped disappearing.

For one precious moment...

Everything was still.

Then the gate opened completely.

Beyond it...

A single path stretched into infinity.

And at the end of that path...

A lone figure waited.

Hands clasped behind their back.

Watching them.

Patiently.

As though they had been expected all along.

The figure smiled.

"Welcome."

"I've been waiting."

The voice echoed across eternity.

Neither the Keeper nor the Null King spoke.

Because they recognized it.

The one waiting beyond the Final Layer...

Was older than the first Creator.
