Chapter 12 - Trial of Secrets

The storm had passed, but its whispers lingered.Kael and Lyra walked across a narrow path carved into the crystalline plain, the Trialblade glowing faintly in Kael's grip. The air felt heavier now, not with chaos, but with mystery.

Kael frowned. "So… what's next? Please tell me it's not another weather tantrum."

Lyra's voice was hushed, almost reverent. "The Trial of Secrets. Here, the realm reveals truths hidden from mortals. Some are gifts. Others… curses."

Kael groaned. "Secrets? Great. I barely handle my own problems. Now I have to deal with cosmic gossip."

They reached a cavern carved deep into the plain. Its walls shimmered with runes, glowing faintly, shifting like whispers. The air was thick, heavy with silence.

Kael muttered, "Okay… this place feels like it's judging me."

Lyra's eyes narrowed. "It does. The cavern listens. It knows what you hide."

Kael smirked weakly. "Well, I hide snacks under my bed. Guess I'm doomed."

The runes flared, and visions filled the cavern. Kael saw himself—alone, wandering, hiding behind sarcasm. He saw Lyra, burdened by duty, her clan lost. He saw the Trialblade, forged not by gods, but by mortals who sacrificed everything.

Kael froze. "Wait… the blade isn't divine?"

Lyra's voice trembled. "No. It was forged by those who came before. Heroes who failed, who gave their lives so the blade could endure."

Kael's chest tightened. "So… I'm carrying their ghosts."

Lyra nodded. "Their secrets are now yours."

The cavern shifted. Shadows formed, whispering truths Kael didn't want to hear. "You are not chosen. You are desperate. You are unworthy."

Kael gritted his teeth. "Yeah, well, I've heard worse. Doesn't mean I quit."

The Trialblade pulsed, resonating with his defiance. Light flared, shattering the whispers.

Lyra's voice was soft. "You faced the secrets. You accepted them. That is strength."

Kael smirked weakly. "Or stupidity. Still hard to tell the difference."

The cavern calmed, its runes dimming. The Trialblade glowed brighter, its aura deeper, heavier. Kael stared at it, awe flickering beneath his sarcasm.

"So… secrets, huh? Guess I'm stuck carrying more baggage than I thought."

Lyra's lips curved faintly. "And yet, you endure."

Kael chuckled. "Yeah. But I'm still the laziest hero in the multiverse."
