Chapter 60 - 59: Uninvited Encounters

Chapter 59: Uninvited Encounters

Elena

My mornings at Harrington Enterprises were with usual routine, except for the anxiety that always came with knowing I'd have to face Damien. Still, I had chosen to suppress it, to mask it beneath professionalism and composure. Today, however, something felt…off. A strange sense of unease crawled up my spine as I got dressed for work, but I didn't want to focus on it.

I arrived at the company building, walking through the familiar glass doors, my heels clicking softly against the tiled floors. But the moment I stepped into the elevator, my chest tightened.

Sophia.

She stood there, looking effortlessly beautiful in a fitted white dress, her long chestnut hair cascading over her shoulders. My eyes met her blue ones, and she smiled, the kind of smile that held more meaning than it should.

"Good morning, Elena," she greeted, stepping further inside as if this was her space.

I smiled back giving her a curt nod. "Sophia."

The elevator doors slid shut, and the air suddenly felt heavy. She was carrying a box filled with personal office necessities. My eyes widened as I took note of them.

'Was she now working here?' I wondered deeply.

"Surprised to see me?" she asked, her voice sweet, much too sweet.

I kept my face neutral, trying to hide my feelings. "Not really."

She let out a soft chuckle as if she knew something I didn't. "Damien thought it would be best if I started working from the office more often. You know, since I'll be around a lot." She said her tone bold.

My fingers curled slightly, but I forced myself to remain unaffected. She was trying to get under my skin, testing me, gauging my reaction. Her news wasn't pleasant to my ears but I wasn't going to give her the satisfaction she wanted.

"I wasn't aware you were joining us so soon but that's great for you," I said smoothly, my tone detached.

The elevator dinged, and I stepped out, not bothering to look back. The sight of her face started to annoy me.

Once inside my office, I immersed myself in work, trying to push my chaotic thoughts aside. My thoughts, however, kept circling back to how Sophia was now closer to Damien. I came to the acceptance of my old feelings resurfacing but I didn't think I would get this bothered by Sophia. Even if she was with Damien I had no right to be mad. He had torn our marriage certificate and worse off I still pretend not to know him.

"God damn it," I cursed under my breath. ' He was supposed to be nothing to me.'

I sighed, rubbing the bridge of my nose. Focus. I had reports to finish, and I needed Damien's approval on some documents before moving forward. I grabbed the files and headed toward his office.

Clara's desk was empty. That was strange—she was usually at her post. I hesitated for a second, then decided to just go in. Forgetting no one had mentioned my arrival to him.

But the second I pushed open the door, my breath caught in my throat.

It was Sophia but she wasn't just talking in his office, she was on his lap.

My stomach churned violently. Her arms draped around his neck, and their faces just inches away from each other. 'What the hell was going on?' My brain thought wildly.

My eyes traced down her body to see Damien's hands wrapped around her waist. The sight alone made something sharp and bitter rise inside me. The thought of these two had haunted me for the most part of my day and now this.

Damien and I made eye contact, his facial expression unreadable but I didn't wait. Didn't say a word. I just turned on my heel and stormed out, my blood boiling as I marched back to my office, forgetting that I had gone to his office because of work.

The moment I shut my door behind me, I let out a slow, shaky breath. 'Was I so unlucky in love that I always fell for the wrong people'

Angry at myself, I threw myself back into work, determined to drown out everything else.

Hours had gone by, and before I knew it, it was already late and the office was empty. The soft glow of my desk lamp was the only light in the room. I stretched, trying to ease my stiff shoulders.

Convinced I was the only one left, the sound of footsteps threw the thought out. The footsteps got louder and closer headed for my door.

My doors flung open and there stood Damien leaning against my doorway. His dark eyes filled with amusement. My heart nearly jumped out of my chest at the sight of him.

"You work so hard, Elena," He said his voice laced with hints of mockery.

I tensed. "Some of us actually have no choice but to do our jobs," I added rolling my eyes at him.

"We don't get the liberty of wasting time on pleasures, unlike some people," I said under my breath to only my hearing.

He chuckled, stepping inside. "I see you're upset, would you like for me to give you time off to spend on your pleasures?"

Jeez, he had overheard what I said. I looked up at him placing a fake smile on my face, "what can I help you with Sir,"

He didn't give a response, just walked closer to where I was sitting. "If this makes you feel better, Sophia mistakenly tripped and fell on my body."

I scoffed, turning back to my screen. "I don't care what you do with other women."

But then, I felt the heat of his body as he moved closer, his fingers found their way to my shoulders, and soon after I was getting a comfortable massage. 'I was way too comfortable under his touch'

My breath hitched.

"You're tense," he murmured, his voice lower now, more intimate. "Maybe you're thinking too much."

I clenched my hands into fists. "Damien—"

His hands slid lower, his thumbs pressing against my shoulder blades, his breath ghosting over my ear.

"You looked jealous earlier," he whispered, his lips dangerously close. "If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were my wife."

Heat flared through me, an uncontrollable reaction I hated myself for.

"Tell me, Elena," he murmured, his voice dripping with amusement. "Did it bother you?"

I turned to glare at him, I wanted to say No so badly but the words wouldn't leave my lips. I just turned my head back around but I could feel he had a wide grin on his face.

My pulse pounded in my ears as his hands traveled lower, down my arms, down my sides, his fingertips teasing the edges of my blouse. His hands had landed on my breast, massaging them like they always belonged there.

"You like it don't you?" He said making sure to come as close as possible to my ears. My face flushed like a tomato.

'Just what was I doing? Why was I letting this go any further?'

He continued tracing my now hard nipples in circles causing me to let out a soft moan. Turning me around he launched a kiss at me, stealing the breath from my lungs. My body gave way letting him have his way with me.

His strong arms went under my thighs lifting me up from the chair and onto my desk he cleared, shoving the files I had on it to the floor. His body pressed against mine. His kiss was slow, teasing, yet possessive all at once.

I should have pushed him away, should have stopped this before it spiraled further.

But I didn't, I couldn't.

My thighs were split open his fingers finding their way to my core. I was wet down there as he slid his fingers in and out, up and down rubbing my clits in sequenced motion.

As much as I wanted to be done with Damien Landon—hated the power he had over me—at that moment, I wanted to forget everything else.

"Oh my God," I moaned, my body hot and sweaty. "Damn, he was good with his hands."

"It's so moist down there," he whispered into my ears his breath hot. "I want to eat you so bad."
