Chapter 7 - chapter 7: the missing cord

I rushed to her room the moment I heard her scream.

Luckily, the door was open.

She was sitting on the edge of her bed, staring at her hand like her world had just ended.

"What's wrong?" I asked quickly.

She looked up at me—

—and then panicked.

"My phone—oh no, my phone is dead!" she cried. "How am I supposed to contact Yuna? How will I get my reward money?! My life is ruined!"

I stared at her.

For a second, I didn't know whether to laugh… or feel offended.

She was really losing her mind over the fact that she couldn't sell me out.

She suddenly stood up and pointed at me.

"What are you doing in my room? Didn't I tell you to stay where you were and not move?"

I glanced around instead of answering.

Her room was… unexpected.

Neat.

One wall was painted black, dusted with what looked like tiny glitter that caught the sunlight. It shimmered faintly, giving the whole space a strange, almost magical feeling.

Her bed was small—but big enough for two people.

Cute.

But something about it felt… dangerous.

"I asked you a question," she said, hands on her hips.

I sighed. "You screamed. I thought you—"

I stopped.

There was no point finishing that sentence.

She didn't look like someone who appreciated concern.

"I don't care what you thought," she said bluntly. "Next time, don't come into my room. Okay?"

I looked at her calmly.

"You never said I couldn't move," I replied. "You just left me on the couch and disappeared."

She froze.

Speechless.

For a moment.

Then—

"Hmph. Don't worry. There won't be a next time," she said. "As soon as I find my charger and turn on my phone, you're leaving."

And just like that—

She shut the door in my face.

I stood there for a second… then sighed and walked back to the couch.

Her apartment wasn't big.

Just enough space for someone like her—

I leaned back, staring at the ceiling.

Something about this place felt… strange.

Unsettling.

I stood up and started looking around.

Then—

I saw it.

"…Isn't this what she's looking for?" I muttered, picking it up.

Her charger.

Lying right there.

Out in the open.

I let out a small laugh.

Neat… but careless.

Interesting.

I stared at the cord for a moment.

Then slowly—

I hid it.

Let's see what she does now.

Right on cue, she burst out of her room, already making a mess as she searched through everything.

"What are you looking for?" I asked casually.

She looked up. "My charger. Have you seen it?"

"Don't you remember where you kept it?" I asked.

"If I did, would I be looking for it?" she snapped.

I almost smiled.

I'm actually enjoying this.

"Ugh! I hate looking for things," she groaned. "And I need to send you back…"

She suddenly paused.

Then looked at me again.

"…You know what? There's still time. And I can't do this on an empty stomach."

I raised a brow.

"We'll eat first. Then I'll find it."

She stood up straight.

"Do you want to eat?"

I hesitated for a second.

Can she even cook?

"…Yes."

"Good," she said. "But just so you know, I'm getting paid for feeding you. It's not free."

Then she walked into the kitchen.

A second passed.

Then—

CRASH!

I sat up immediately.

"What the—"

Her scream followed right after.

I stood up, about to check on her—

But before I could reach the kitchen—

She stormed out.

Her face furious.

Her eyes blazing.

And for the first time—

I thought…

Maybe the dangerous one here… isn't me
