Chapter 2 - Sorry not sorry

Morning came to soon

Sophie laid on her bed staring at the ceiling, her fingers entangled with the hem of the pillow case. Thoughts of yesterday evening came playing in her head.

Lucas Cross.

"Aghhhh" She turned to her side. He yelled at her. He had lost his patience – she hated people who couldn't control themselves. She was angry with him.

He yelled.

No apologies.

Just silent walk.

" This shouldn't bother me. The Cross. No less than his brother ". She sat up, stretched and headed to shower. The thought of Lucas still lingered in her mind.

She wasn't meant to think of him. But each walk, each thought and each looks remind her of Lucas. She didn't know why Lucas didn't that and her head was screaming I want to know but she didn't want to meet him again.

How certain was she– not certain.

It was getting late she had woken up when the sky was too dark. Time passed. There she was standing at the rooftop of Silvercrest in a peach nighties staring at nothing.

Her phone kept buzzing with non-stop with calls and messages but she tossed it aside and quickly went to shower.

The water dripping down her skin as the rays of sunlight sipped through the window casting a golden look on her skin. She let out a great sigh as she ties the towel round her breast. She walks towards the wardrobe frantically searching for something simple.

No gowns.

No skirt.

Not revealing.

Just simple.

Finally she found a white hood and black cargo pants and a white nike to wear. Her bag loosely laid in her shoulders. Her hair neatly braided in twos. She picks up her pink lipgloss, applies it on her and does the smacking of lips twice.

She puts her book into her bag, grabs her headset and walks out of the door, her eyes landed on Sienna and her clique's retreating figures as she follows slowly.

Finally, she saw the huge gate of Elderemere Academy as she pushes the huge gate open.

She hears a familiar voice now louder.

" Hey".

She turned and it was Lucas. He hand slightly waving unsure if he made the right choice. " What?". She said impatiently.

" Well, I'd wanted to apologize for –".

" Keep it to yourself ". She interrupted.

" Sophie hear me – ".

" I'm not interested ". She said and stormed off. He didn't follow her. She thought he would maybe one more attempt and she would give in.

Everyone was rushing in. Sophie was yet to settle when the teacher walked in " You have a project and pass it back next week " Sophie didn't have issues with project " I'll be assigning partners in two".

Until –

" Sophie Vale..... Lucas Cross ".

She immediately looked up to meet Lucas eyes on her. No humor. No smile. Just neutral. But she quickly looked away.

Lucas brought his chair closer. Sophie began writing. " Sophie, I'm sorry about yesterday".

" Lucas I don't actually – ".

" I know ". He said resting on his chair, Sophie's eye remained on his face. She saw it. He meant it. " I didn't mean to lash on you like that ".

" It's fine, Lucas ". She said more calmly as she turned back to her book dividing the work and began discussing about the project when the bell suddenly went on.

Sophie quickly packed up her bag and headed out of the class. She was walking fast hoping not to bump into Sienna and her clique or Lucas. She almost close to the gate when she heard Lucien's voice.

" Avoiding people, Vale? ".

Sophie turned. Looking visibly disgusted. Her arms folded across her breast.

" And?....".

" Uhm... Nothing ", circling Sophie with a smug on his face, he shrugs as she stares at her " Tsk, tsk, tsk, where's your.... " looking round insearch of Lucas. He knew Sophie getting pissed off but that's what Lucien enjoys most " Oh so sorry Soph, did he leave you?".

Sophie snorts " I have somewhere i was heading to". She said and turned to leave.

" Vale, you should stop forcing yourself on Lucas. He would never see you same". Lucien yelled and laughed it off.

Sophie felt eyes were on her. She could feel the chills down her spine, her eyes spanned, eyes piercing through her and she saw Lucas standing at the gate, expressionless. Those words sounded harsh.

Lucas didn't defend what Lucien said. Did he see me same as Lucien? Was Lucas taking advantage of their friendship?

" Lucien! ", Sophie slapped across the face " Lucas and I are nothing ". She turned to Lucas. Wasn't he going to defend me?. Lucas looked away, he jaws tightened, eyes fixed on the floor. " Oh ". She finally understands.

" Ouch! Lucas don't just stand there, say something. " He said to Lucas before turning back to Sopie "You should know you both aren't from same status". She didn't want to wait for it. Sophie ran away tears slipping down her cheeks.

She hated herself. She hated Eldermite. She hated Lucien. She hated Lucas the most. She now hated it here.

She ran until she could run no more. Cried until she had no tears left. She was angry; angry that Lucas didn't defend her. Angry that she couldn't stand up against Lucien. Angry that Lucien rubbed it on her face that she was different. She felt her heart broken, she hated that she was always looked down on. Even her father hated her.

She quietly picked up her bag, she didn't know how long she's been sitting there. The street light shone on her as she walked down the street of Silvercrest. The street she thought was safe. She was stepping into the room when her phone buzzed.

Once.

Twice.

Again.

Finally, she searched for her phone in her back pocket and stares at the screen.

15 missed calls – Lucas

I'm sorry, Sophie. Lucien shouldn't....

Sophie quickly tossed the phone aside and tucked herself on the bed. Her fingers slowly going through her hair. Her eyes fixed on the screen as she watched the light went off.

Lucien was right. Lucas would never look at her that way. He made friends with her out of sympathy. It all made sense now.

She walked to her mirror. Her reflection was horrible she looked weak, tired and stupid. " This isn't you, Sophie!". She yelled.

She sat close to the mirror and sleep overshadows her.
