Chapter 434 - Unnamed

Chapter 434: The plan collapsed, and you will die if you tryCaspian snuck into the dungeon and found his tutor, Doctor Cornelius. The fat old man with a white beard and white hair was sound asleep on a straw bed, and as soon as he opened his eyes, he saw Caspian unlocking his handcuffs."What are you doing here?" Cornelius looked at him, both surprised and angry. "I helped you escape not so you could break in here. You need to leave before Miraz finds you.""He'll know soon enough." Caspian placed Cornelius's glasses in his hand, smiling easily, "I'm going to give him your room."After speaking, Caspian prepared to leave the dungeon to help Aaron open the Castle gates.Cornelius quickly grabbed him. "Don't underestimate Miraz like your father did.""What did you say?" Caspian's eyes suddenly widened, thinking that his father's death had been somewhat suspicious.Cornelius was silent for a few seconds. "I'm sorry."Hearing this apologetic reply, Caspian immediately confirmed his suspicion: his uncle had murdered his father for the throne, and he had been kept in the dark all this time.Caspian immediately lost his reason and rushed to Miraz's room.As for the battle plan, he couldn't care less; at this moment, his father's death was more important to him than anything else. Thanks to his familiarity with the Castle, he found Miraz a step ahead of Peter and Susan, waking him from his deep sleep with the cold tip of his sword."Caspian? What are you doing?" Miraz's wife, the current Queen of the Telmarines, looked at her nephew in astonishment, not understanding why he was doing this."I think it's quite obvious," Miraz said calmly, without any panic whatsoever. "Some relatives might find this action inappropriate.""That didn't stop you...""But you're not like me, are you!" Miraz calmly took a step forward, and Caspian, seemingly afraid to kill him, couldn't help but take half a step back."What a pity. The first time you show such backbone, it's just a waste of effort."Clack! The Queen had, at some point, taken out a crossbow and aimed it at Caspian."Put down your sword, Caspian. I don't want to do this.""We don't want to do this either." Susan and Peter arrived just in time, and she aimed a red arrow at the Queen. The situation immediately became complicated; now both sides were hesitant, and no one dared to move carelessly.Miraz suppressed his anger and shrugged helplessly, "This was supposed to be a private room.""What are you doing here? You should be opening the gate," Peter said, looking at Caspian with weariness."Aaron is in charge of the city gate; he'll handle it.""Do you really think a fifteen-year-old child can open the city gate by himself?" Susan said, exasperated. "Without you, he might not even know the way.""Fifteen? Child?" Caspian sounded as if he had heard a joke, and his sword-wielding hand trembled slightly. "You haven't seen how he interrogated me.Honestly, it's a good thing he's not our enemy, otherwise, all of us combined wouldn't be able to outplay him.""It seems you've made new friends," Miraz said, smiling. "Can you introduce me?""Shut up." Caspian pointed his sword at Miraz's neck. "Tell me the truth, did you kill my father?"Miraz's expression instantly froze. "You came for this?""You said your brother died in his sleep." The Queen seemed to remember something, looking at her husband with suspicion and uncertainty."In a sense, one could say that," Miraz admitted without hesitation. "In fact, I was very humanitarian; he died without any pain at all.""How could you do such a thing?" the Queen said, stunned."You would do the same. For our son, you should pull the trigger now." Miraz said, slowly moving forward, blood pricking from his neck where the longsword touched."Stop!" the Queen shouted.Caspian, with the crossbow aimed at him, could only retreat helplessly. He was certain that if Miraz died, his aunt would not hesitate to shoot him full of holes."Do you want our son to be King?" Miraz continued to press. "Or do you want him to become a second Caspian, losing his father?"Hearing this, the Queen's face instantly turned pale, and she screamed as she pulled the trigger. The crossbow bolt hit Caspian squarely in the shoulder, and the intense pain made him drop his longsword.Miraz decisively crashed through the door and ran out.Susan immediately shot an arrow, but unfortunately, it was blocked by the door and missed. The Queen's scream carried very far. Edmund, who was waiting in the tower for Peter's signal, was startled, and his flashlight fell, only to be picked up by a soldier. The soldier, not understanding what it was, pressed the button on it, and the strong white light shining into his eyes made him almost throw the thing away. The Narnian army on the outskirts of the Castle looked at the swaying light beam on the tower, also completely bewildered. What does this signal... mean? It wasn't in the battle plan!Dong! Dong! Dong!An alarm sounded inside the Castle, signifying an enemy invasion. All the soldiers were startled, grabbing their weapons and rushing out of the barracks.Aaron, who was yawning, groggily rubbed his eyes, and hearing the alarm outside, he was also speechless.Although plans can't keep up with changes, this change was a bit too drastic! The signal for attack hadn't sounded yet, but the alarm inside the Castlehad, meaning they had completely lost the advantage of a surprise attack."Time to go." Aaron stretched his limbs, then apparated, standing openly in front of the turntable switch. He didn't care which part of the plan went wrong; at least his part was flawless. The white light from the tower caught Aaron's attention. He looked closely and saw Edmund fiercely brawling with a Telmarine soldier, while the flashlight lay quietly in the corner."What the heck! What kind of luck is this?""Edmund, quick, signal, attack!" Peterrushed out of the Castle with his sword, sprinting towards the city gate, soldiers in his path completely unable to stop him."I'm busy here!" Edmund said anxiously, and in a moment of desperation, he picked up the flashlight and hit the soldier on the head with it.The soldier fainted, but the flashlight also malfunctioned.Peter, Susan, and Caspian arrived at the city gate, panting, and seeing that Aaron had already opened the gate, they couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief."Send the retreat signal!" Aaron said earnestly. "We haven't suffered any losses; it's still not too late to abandon the plan now.""No, this is our only chance," Peter said stubbornly. "We can take the Castle.""Are you an idiot?" Aaron cursed angrily. "The Telmarines have already sounded the alarm; tonight we're not making a surprise attack, but a full-frontal assault.""I don't deny it, but at least we've secured the drawbridge and the city gate, so we don't have to face the sturdy walls. And our army is much better prepared than the Telmarines; we might still win this battle."Aaron rolled his eyes speechlessly. "Where do you get your confidence? Let me state upfront that I won't help you kill indiscriminately.Besides, and I'm not trying to discourage you, the fact is we absolutely cannot take this city tonight.""How will we know if we don't try?"Aaron's mouth twitched slightly, giving Peter a thumbs up for his stubbornness. Then he turned to Susan. "Was your brother drunk before he set off? Does he know what that sentence implies?"Susan was about to say something when dense footsteps were heard from outside. The Centaur leader led the Narnian army across the drawbridge and charged through the city gate.It turned out that within the half-minute that the group was talking, Edmund had fixed the flashlight and sent out the second signal.Peter also seized the opportunity to raise his longsword, "For Narnia!"The King's morale-boosting cry sent the entire army surging into the city.Susan and Caspian also had no choice but to join the battle, fighting alongside the Telmarine soldiers."What the f***!" Aaron couldn't help but curse. He truly wondered if he was cursed, always being exhausted by his teammates. The Narnian army quickly engaged the Telmarine soldiers. Although fewer in number, the Narnians, in addition to their intelligence, also possessed their respective racial talents.Fauns and Goat-men were agile, even able to scale walls and run on rooftops, while Minotaurs were incredibly strong, almost unstoppable. Reepicheep also rushed over from the control room, leading two subordinates, moving swiftly on the ground to help others relieve pressure."Idiot, I've never seen such an idiot." Aaron watched Peter fighting hard in the crowd, with no intention of helping him at all.He said he wanted to try, so let him try and die.The Narnians were still barely evenly matched with the Telmarines, but once the Telmarine reinforcements arrived, they would be completely at a disadvantage.Just as he was silently sighing about the other side's incompetence, two Telmarine soldiers attacked him."Hey, hey, hey! It's already merciful that I'm not helping him, but you seeking death is another matter." Aaron complained speechlessly, then held his sword with both hands, sweeping the blade horizontally, sending one soldier flying. As he turned, he grabbed the hilt of the second soldier's sword with one hand and plunged the sword into his chest."Archers, find your targets!"An officer shouted loudly, and dozens of soldiers armed with crossbows occupied the high ground of the Castle.Edmund, who was retreating from the tower, happened to run into a line of archers. He jumped down from a height, kicking one archer off the wall, but also falling into the sight of other archers.Gulp!Edmund swallowed hard, then ran, diving into a door before a volley of arrows could hit him, and bolted the door with his flashlight. But he never expected that behind the door was another tower, and he was directly trapped there.Miraz stood triumphantly on the battlements, watching the slaughter below. He suddenly felt that the bridge at Beruna didn't even need to be built.Caspian and all the Narnian remnants were here.As long as the city gate was closed, they would be like turtles in a jar, and he could wipe them all out tonight.
