The girl kept training her Power of Death and Extinction for days to come, and nothing as disturbing as the hunter appearing happened.
Every now and then, monsters would come to the field, but she knew how to deal with that, so she remained safe and could train even then.
Her full attention was on untangling the mess of her power, but it was difficult.
It required unwavering and consistent focus to move the end of the thread.
And the more she untangled, the longer the free end of the thread got, so the difficulty just kept increasing.
Over time, beads of sweat formed on the girl's forehead, and as she kept pushing, more and more appeared even on other parts of her body.
And that was all within the first week.
After a week, the girl knew she couldn't keep going.
She was way too hungry to proceed.
She didn't want to starve to death.
She was also thirsty, but she did quench that a few times because she had a spatial bottle filled with water.
It could last her months if she needed.
But she didn't have anything like that for food, so she could only have a limited amount of that with her.
Luckily, the tavern lady gave her a pouch of dried food which could last a long time.
So, the girl sat up and started gnawing on the food.
She didn't really care about its taste with how hungry she was.
But even normally, she wasn't the kind of person who needed their food to be tasty.
For her, food was merely a functional thing necessary for her survival.
After eating, the girl returned to training, and like that, the cycle went on until she thought she was finally at the stage when she could use the Limit Killer ability.
Getting to her feet, she started spinning in a circle until her head spun.
Then, she forced herself to walk in a straight line.
If she could do it, it meant she had succeeded and her control was enough to use the ability.
At least the passive part of it.
The Limit Killer was a dual ability with passive and active forms.
The passive form just made it so the possessor of the Power of Death and Extinction could move over their limits.
But it was uncontrolled and the person, without knowing their limits, could easily hurt themselves.
But at the moment, that was enough for the girl.
The active form was much more complex.
It could take away the limit for just one thing, and do it temporarily.
Or it could lower the limits of one thing to compensate for removing the limit on something else.
That was sometimes nicknamed Limit Sacrifice, and it, too, was easily reversible.
With her head spinning, the girl stepped forward, going a few steps.
And it felt strangely woozy.
The world in front of her eyes was spinning.
Even in her head, she could feel the spinning, but in her inner ears, which were responsible for walking straight, things felt dull, dead even.
So the Limit Killer went for her inner ear.
It achieved what she wanted: to walk in a straight line, but seeing was not exactly an option.
Did that mean she didn't yet have enough control to use even the passive form of the ability to its fullest?
Or did she just... need to focus on what limit she wanted gone?
The girl tried that.
She narrowed her eyes and looked at the ground beneath her feet.
With her world spinning, it didn't look nice.
It was shrinking and enlarging beneath her (though that, of course, wasn't really happening).
To try to get rid of that, the girl kept staring at the same spot, and to her surprise, the spinning slowed down significantly.
But so it seemed that she indeed didn't have enough control to completely kill the limit.
If the girl wanted to kill her limits enough to be able to get to the Capital City in time, she needed to completely master the passive form of the Limit Killer.
So, she laid back down in the grass (ignoring the still present spinning of her head) and focused on the thread of power again.
The girl didn't really have much more time, and the pulling on the free end of the thread was becoming harder and harder because it was getting longer and longer.
Still, the girl decided to only give it a single day.
Then, she would try again and hope for the best.
If, by then, she still failed, she would have some spare time to perfect the training.
But after that, she would have to set off to the Capital City.
So, after twenty‑four hours passed, the girl got up again and repeated the process of having her head spin and walking in a straight line.
That she already could do before, so she wasn't surprised she could do it again.
But then, there was the spinning in her eyes.
Once again, she narrowed her eyes and focused on a single spot on the ground.
It was a horrible feeling.
Her gaze actually cleared and the image stilled, but she felt that her eyes were about to cross.
It left a nasty feeling behind her eyes and in her eye sockets.
That meant her control still wasn't exactly enough, but just a bit more was needed.
So, the girl didn't waste any more time and returned to training, last time at the fields.
When the girl opened her eyes again, she knew time was pressing her.
She just rashly tested her control, but she was already sure she had mastered the passive form of the Limit Killer ability.
Like that, she crouched down and placed her palms on the ground.
She put her hands where the grass and flowers were still around (the area where she had been lying while training was completely dead due to her training), and the moment her skin touched the living plants, they started wilting.
But the girl didn't care about that.
Her concern was something completely different.
Kicking into the ground, she broke into a run, picking up speed.
It didn't take long for her to reach the fastest she could normally sprint, and she felt it in her muscles.
But to bypass that, the girl activated the thread of power around her heart.
The first few moments, her movement didn't change.
Just wherever she stepped, the plants wilted.
But after just a few steps, that was gone and the girl was once again picking up speed.
As she did that, she gasped for breath, her lungs getting strained.
The passive ability wasn't yet fully activated, so her lungs couldn't yet keep up.
That didn't make the girl slow down.
She kept speeding up, actively feeling the state of her lungs get better.
In under a minute, the girl was sprinting at an inhuman speed that even top racing horses couldn't reach, her breathing steady and even.
She reached the state she needed.
All that was left to do was stay like that for over a day until she finally reached the Capital City.
Keeping her eyes wide open, the girl couldn't even afford to blink.
She was moving so fast that in the single moment of blinking, a lot could change.
And her brain had to process all those changes.
That was another limit (or rather two limits) the Limit Killer had to bypass.
And it was successful, so the girl's journey was safe.
She sprinted through roads, passing by carriages and galloping horses, weaving through towns and cities, passing around them if it was night and the gates were closed.
She had half the Empire to cross, but with her speed, she would make it in time.
And the funniest thing about it all was that nobody noticed her.
She was just a gust of wind that passed just as fast as it appeared.
Of course, if on the road she passed by someone who specialized in those with the Power of Death and Extinction, just from the gust of wind, the person would be able to figure out that someone with the Power of Death and Extinction had passed, but by then, the girl would already be much further on her journey.
A thing about people who could move so fast was that even if there was someone who could move at the same or even higher speed than them, they wouldn't be able to go after them.
And the reason for that was simple.
A person moving at the same speed as the girl would pass through where they can be seen in less than a nanosecond.
Even if the other person ran after them right away, without knowing the path the first one chose, the second would just be running aimlessly.
Because if the first one wanted, out of sight, they could have looped somewhere, or changed direction to somewhere behind a corner where even the best eyes couldn't see.
So, the girl was completely untrackable at the moment.
She didn't have to worry about anyone tailing her.
It was just impossible.
Only some monsters had such fast reactions to follow along, but those couldn't move that fast for long.
They were explosive sprinters, not prolonged runners.
