Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: The First Strike

Chapter 14: The First Strike

The morning light in Valora Palace felt heavier than usual. Kyle Valor stood in the central strategy room, staring at the urgent red alerts flashing across the holographic displays. The system had been correct — Nexara had not waited long.

Eliana entered the room quickly, her face pale but composed. She wore a simple yet elegant gray blouse and skirt, her long black hair tied back tightly as if preparing for battle. Fiona and Serena arrived moments later, both looking tense.

"What happened?" Kyle asked, his voice steady.

Eliana activated the main display. Security footage from Lux Eternal Gallery appeared, showing broken display cases and scattered tools. Serena's hand flew to her mouth.

"My private studio," Serena whispered, her violet eyes wide with shock. "They broke in during the early hours. They didn't steal anything major, but they destroyed several finished prototypes for the Shadow Collection jewelry. The calming resonance pieces… they're gone."

Fiona slammed her hand on the table, her hazel eyes burning with anger. "This is no coincidence. They hit Serena right after we announced the private preview event internally. They're trying to delay us, to make us look weak before the summit."

Eliana turned to Kyle, her deep blue eyes filled with a mix of worry and quiet trust. "The timing is too perfect. They want us to panic and cancel the preview. Or worse — force us into a desperate merger offer."

Kyle studied the footage carefully, his enhanced Business Insight skill picking up details others might miss. "They didn't destroy everything. They targeted the most advanced protective pieces. This was a warning shot. They're testing how we react."

Serena sat down slowly, her hands trembling slightly. "Those pieces took me days to perfect. The emotional resonance function… it was meant to help the wearers feel safe. Now it feels like they've taken a piece of my confidence with them."

The room fell into heavy silence. Kyle moved closer to Serena and placed a steady hand on her shoulder, his touch calm and reassuring. The newly upgraded **Aura of Allure (Level 2)** and **Protective Link** activated subtly, easing some of the tension in her posture.

"You're stronger than this, Serena," he said quietly. "They destroyed objects. They can't destroy what you create. We'll rebuild the prototypes faster and better. And we'll make sure they regret targeting you."

Serena looked up at him, her violet eyes softening with gratitude. She placed her hand over his for a moment, drawing comfort from his steady presence.

"Thank you," she whispered. "I needed to hear that."

Fiona paced the room, her full figure moving with contained energy. "My resorts are on high alert now. If they hit one of us, they might hit all of us. We need to accelerate everything."

Eliana nodded, regaining her composure. "Agreed. We move the private preview to six days from now instead of ten. We work through the night if we have to. Kyle, your ideas have carried us this far. What do you suggest?"

Kyle took a deep breath and laid out a clear plan. They would focus on the core pieces that remained intact, enhance the remaining prototypes with stronger aether weaves, and add a public statement of resilience. The message would be clear: the circle would not be broken by sabotage.

As the group worked through the afternoon, the bonds between them strengthened under pressure. Eliana coordinated with the design team via secure channels, her leadership shining through. Fiona arranged additional security for all circle properties. Serena, with Kyle's encouragement, began redesigning the damaged pieces with renewed determination, her artistic talent flowing faster than before.

During a short break, Eliana pulled Kyle aside into a quiet corner of the room. Her expression was soft but serious.

"I'm trying to stay strong for everyone," she admitted, her voice low. "But seeing Serena hurt like this… it reminds me how much is at stake. Not just the business, but the people I care about." She stepped closer, her hand finding his arm. "You've become our anchor, Kyle. When things get difficult, I find myself looking to you first."

Her touch lingered, warm and meaningful. For a moment, the noise of the strategy room faded. Eliana's mature beauty and quiet vulnerability were on full display — the graceful woman who carried immense responsibility yet allowed herself to lean on him in private moments.

"I'm here," Kyle replied simply. "For all of you."

Eliana's fingers tightened slightly on his arm before she stepped back, composing herself as Fiona and Serena returned.

The day stretched into evening. Progress was made — new prototypes were started, security was tightened, and a unified statement was drafted. The circle worked as one, the **Circle Harmony** effect helping them push through fatigue.

As night fell, the system delivered an important update:

**[Branch Mission progress: 82%. First major sabotage countered with unified response. Reward partially unlocked: Enhanced Protective Link now provides minor aether shielding to all bonded targets during moments of stress.]**

**[New Threat Detected: Nexara is preparing a larger move. Expect direct confrontation within 48 hours.]**

Later that night, after Fiona and Serena had returned to their own residences with extra security, Eliana remained with Kyle in the strategy room. The lights were dimmed, and only a few holographic displays remained active.

She approached him slowly, exhaustion and determination mixed in her expression.

"Today was hard," she said softly. "But we stood together. Because of you." She reached out and gently cupped his cheek for a brief, intimate moment. Her touch was tender, filled with unspoken gratitude and deepening affection. "I don't know what tomorrow will bring, but I know I'm not facing it alone anymore."

The gesture was quiet and powerful — a mature woman allowing herself to show vulnerability and care to the man who had become central to her world. Eliana held the touch for a few heartbeats before lowering her hand, her blue eyes lingering on his.

"Rest if you can," she whispered. "We have a long fight ahead."

As she left the room, Kyle stood alone, the weight of responsibility settling on his shoulders. Nexara had drawn first blood, but the circle had responded with unity instead of fear.

The empire was being tested.

And it was beginning to push back.
