Synopsis
He was never the best. Just the one who tried the hardest. From a young age, he carried burdens that were never meant for him—his family’s struggles, his brother’s future, and expectations that grew heavier with every success. He studied not out of passion, but necessity. He won not for pride, but survival. And when he finally allowed himself to feel something for someone… he remained unseen. Unchosen. But on the night everything breaks, someone finally notices him. Not to save him— but to recruit him. The Silence Institute is not a school. It is not a sanctuary. It is a system designed to erase identity, suppress emotion, and create individuals who can think, adapt, and control without hesitation. Inside, people are not people. They are assets. And he is about to become their most dangerous one. Because unlike the others— he has nothing left to lose.

Chapter 1 - The Deal

The wind tugged at Leo's worn jacket, trying to take away the heavy fatigue that had settled into his bones. Fifteen years. It felt like a cruel joke in a world filled with poverty and unfulfilled dreams. Below him, the city lay sprawling, a cluster of indifferent lights, each one a distant sun he could never reach. He stood at the edge, not of a bridge, but of his own destruction. The cold metal of the railing felt both familiar and stark against his shaking hands.

His younger brother, Sam, was a light of hope, a delicate butterfly in the storm of their lives. The thought of Sam's laughter, so pure it could shatter Leo's carefully built apathy, was the only thing keeping him grounded, even if it was just barely. But that connection was fraying. How could he protect Sam? How could he give him a future free from the dull colors of their current life when he was drowning himself?

Then came the screech of tires, breaking the night's sorrowful quiet. A figure stepped out from the shadows of a sleek black car, dressed in an obsidian suit that seemed to swallow light. Mr.Kade. The name resonated deep in Leo's mind like a low hum filled with unspoken power. He didn't rush over; he moved with a slow, heavy certainty.

"A rather dramatic place for contemplation, wouldn't you agree?" Kade's voice was smooth and cold, lacking warmth yet full of unsettling insight.

Leo's breath caught. His planned descent into oblivion was interrupted by this figure. "Who… who are you?" His voice came out in a strained whisper.

Silas smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes. "I am a creator of destinies, a dealer of possibilities. You stand at a crossroads, longing for a different path. Perhaps… for someone else?"

The word hung heavily in the air. Leo's heart raced, like a frantic bird trapped in a cage. Sam. The bright future he wished for his brother flickered in his mind, a dream he glimpsed in moments of Sam's childhood joy. "My brother," Leo murmured, the words barely a plea. "He deserves… everything. And I… I can't give him that."

"A noble thought," Kade affirmed, his gaze piercing. "What if I could offer you a way to secure that very future? A carefully crafted life for your brother, filled with safety, opportunity, and all the comforts life can bring—one you control. In exchange, of course, for something singular. Your own life."

The offer was alluring, a tempting song that promised rescue. Leo stared, the wind whipping his hair across his face and blurring his vision. Was this a hallucination brought on by despair, or a genuine, if frightening, chance to change? He imagined Sam's bright, hopeful face and then saw his own gaunt reflection in the rain-slick pavement. The choice loomed large in front of him.

"What… what do I have to do?" he barely managed to say, his words swallowed by the wind, but Kade heard him.

"Agree," Kade said, his voice like a final decree. "Step back from the edge. Your life as you know it will end, but the future you build for your brother will start. A simple exchange, Leo. Life for life, in a way."

Leo meets Kade's gaze. Their connection is silent. He nods, a single, clear movement. The wind swirls around them, a sad backdrop to his choice. He glances back at the distant city, a life he is leaving behind. He looks at the worn photograph in his hand—Sam's bright, innocent smile. He puts it away, a painful reminder.

LEO

(Voice cracking, barely audible above the wind)

"What do I have to do?"

MR. KADE

"Just agree and step back from that ledge. We have a lot to talk about. The first step is accepting the terms. Your brother's future is now secure. Your past is a thing of the past."

Kade offers a sleek, black tablet. The screen lights up with an interface he doesn't recognize, filled with complex symbols and clear statements. He takes the stylus. His hand shakes from the cold and the weight of his decision as he makes a hesitant mark—a final surrender.

MR. KADE

"Your name will no longer exist. Your personal history will be changed."

The man steps forward, his voice calm and steady.

"Your past will disappear. Your name will no longer exist."

He pauses.

"But your brother's future…"

He gestures toward the dark car waiting nearby.

"…will be secured."

The boy looks at the photograph one last time. He feels its weight, the memory of Sam's laughter, and the hope that drove this heartbreaking choice.

Then he looks back at the man.

"Once you step forward," the man says, his gaze unwavering, "there is no turning back."

Silence hangs thick and heavy, broken only by the distant hum of traffic and the wind's howl. A single breath. Years of silent despair rise to the surface—watching his family struggle, yearning for a better life for Sam, and the deep betrayal that finally broke him.

Then—

he releases the railing. His feet, unsteady on the slick concrete, carry him away from the edge.

The man's lips curve slightly, a flicker of satisfaction on his otherwise expressionless face.

"From this moment on, you belong to us."
