Chapter 7
Laurel pov
Right in the ambulance, i called lee Joon and explained everything to him, he replied by saying he will be in Canada the next day.
The siren echoed faintly in the background as I ended the call, my eyes fixed on Seo-hee. The paramedics worked quickly, their movements efficient and practiced. I stayed out of their way, observing.
Right in the hospital I asked the doctor, "what happened, is she gonna be okay?".
He replied with saying "yes, she will be fine but she needs to time to rest well, if you haven't gotten to here in time, we would have lost her cause it seems her stress level are quite high, like she has been doing a lot of thinking".
"Okay thank you" i said, he continued you need to take this to the lady over there to settle the bill, she will give you whatever you wanted".
"Okay" i said, i went to the lady, "Hi" i said, "The doctor told me to give you this" "okay", she said.
Few minutes later, she hand me the bill and then i looked at seo hee and said to the nurse facing her back, "can I get a vip room for the patient to stay?", "yes" she said and add that to the bill.
I checked, the total bill was $3500 CAD. The nurse said, "you can pay in installments".
I looked at her and said "No, card right?" I said "yes". I hand her my card and pay for it. She was moved to the new room immediately.
I called Madison, "I need to know if there will be any meetings this week. if there is, find a way to postpone it to next week" i said and she replied"okay boss".
"What about Jason?" I said, "he is fine". She replied.
" I have calling his line but he wasn't picking my calls, can you hand him the phone", "sure" she said.
I heard her calling Jason over the phone, "hey you good?", "yes" he said
"I need your help with your boyfriend number" I said, i continued.
Jason boyfriend is a private lawyer, and investigator. "No prob laurel, I will send it right away" he replied. " Thanks" i said.
Then he asked, "you are okay right?" He asked. "yes I am" i said.
Few minutes later, he sent the number and I called him, it seems like Jason already told him that he was gonna his number to me.
"Hi laurel, what do you have for me today? " He said. " Nothing much, i need you to help me run a background check on some people, apparently they are called the paradoxes" I said.
"Have heard that name before while working a client, but i really don't know much about, when exactly do you need the information" he said.
"As soon as you can provide, but it will be lovely of you to do that today " i said.
" okay, i will get back as soon as I can" he said.
" Thank you" i replied.
I ended the call and I sat in the lobby waiting for lee Joon, he would arrive anytime from now.
The hospital lobby was quieter now. Occasional footsteps echoed, a nurse passed by, and a distant monitor beeped steadily. I remained seated, my posture straight, my mind already shifting ahead to what needed to be done next.
A few hours later, I noticed a nurse coming out of Seo-hee's room. I asked about her condition and whether she was awake, but I was told she was still unconscious.
I nodded and returned to waiting.
While I was still in the lobby, I saw Lee Joon and Nicholas rushing toward me.
"Where is she?" Lee Joon said looking at me with a worried eyes, i pointed to the room and he dash in immediately.
"Are you okay?" Nicholas said as he sat besides me, his eyes mixed with both fear and worried, i smiled as I replied "am fine".
He studied my face for a moment not fully convinced.
"Are you sure laurel no matter how hard you try to hide it, i know what it feels like when something happens to the one you care about while you watch" he said.
"Who told you I care about her?", i asked trying to look away.
"So why save her" he said. I looked at him trying to figure out what to say but nothing came out.
Then i said, "why are you here questioning me about my feelings for others, didn't you say you have lots of works to do now that you are getting supporters for your insurance company" i said.
He sighed.
"I don't care about other people in your life laurel, I care about you, you are more like a sister to me", he said.
Then he continued, "Dad said he has something to tell you when I get here, I will call him tomorrow, so you both could talk".
"Since when did your dad need you to pass a message to me?, he could have called" i said. "He always has a reason for everything" he does.
I got a message from Jason boyfriend, the private investigator, I had asked him for everything he knows about the paradoxes and their families which he had sent the information.
Immediately I got up and grabbed my jacket, immediately Nicholas held my hand, "where are you going? he said, "I have some unfinished business to do" i answer.
He didn't buy that, "I will go with you" he said.
i didn't fight it because nobody can stop me from what I planned to do that day.
