Maren stared at the golden key in his hands. His chest was still rising and falling fast. He had walked through deserts, forests, and snow just to find this thing, and now it was actually here.
A notification flashed in front of his eyes.
[Mission Two Complete: The Key Acquired]
[New Mission Unlocked!]
[Mission Directive: Gather the earthlings and return to Earth.]
[Task 1: Earthlings Found 0/3]
[Task 2: Find The Key]
[Task 3: ???]
(Note: Complete Task 1 and Task 2 to unlock Task 3.)
Maren let out a shaky laugh. The third mission was finally unlocked. It was to get everyone home.
A huge smile spread across his face. He clenched the key tight in one hand and moved his other finger toward the glowing button on the portal stone.
"Wait!"
Neve grabbed his wrist before he could press it.
Maren pulled his hand back and looked at his mate. "What happened? Why did you stop me? This is what we have been waiting for."
Neve shook his head slowly. His eyes were red and wet.
