Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 – A Secret Almost Revealed

The classroom felt wrong.

Not just quiet—

empty.

Rows of desks stretched behind them, untouched.

Abandoned.

As if the day had ended—

but something else had begun.

Only four remained.

Arga.

Sinta.

Bimo.

And Bu Rini.

She stood near the front desk.

Still.

Watching them.

Not like a teacher.

Like someone measuring—

something invisible.

The evening breeze slipped through the open window.

Curtains swayed softly.

But inside—

the air pressed down.

Heavy.

"I'll ask one more time," Bu Rini said.

Soft.

Too soft.

"Is there anything unusual about the MBG food?"

Silence.

Bimo swallowed.

Sinta glanced at Arga.

Arga felt it—

that tightening in his chest.

He wanted to tell the truth.

But how do you explain something—

you don't even understand yourself?

"…it tasted better," he said finally.

"Yeah," Bimo added quickly.

"Really good."

"And… energizing," Sinta said carefully.

Bu Rini didn't react.

She just looked at them.

Longer.

Deeper.

Then—

she exhaled.

"…so you've already reached that stage."

Silence snapped.

"…what?" Bimo whispered.

Bu Rini stepped forward.

Slow.

Certain.

"No need to pretend."

Her voice changed.

Lower.

Sharper.

"You've felt it, haven't you?"

Arga's heartbeat spiked.

"The warmth."

Sinta stiffened.

"The speed."

Bimo's breath caught.

"The strength."

Silence answered her.

Because it was true.

Bu Rini nodded.

"…I thought so."

BANG!

The crash tore through the moment.

All of them turned.

Pak Damar rushed past the window—

panicked.

"Bu Rini!"

She moved instantly.

"What happened?!"

"The box—"

"What about it?!"

"…it's gone."

Everything stopped.

Not silence.

Not shock.

Something worse.

Understanding.

Then—

the lights flickered.

Once.

Twice.

Then dimmed.

Shadows stretched—

too long.

Too sharp.

Bimo stepped closer.

"…I really don't like this."

Sinta's voice dropped.

"…we're not alone."

Bu Rini turned sharply.

"Stay here."

She moved toward the door—

but Arga felt it.

The energy.

Stronger now.

Faster.

Not random.

Focused.

Calling.

He stood.

"I'm going."

"Arga—"

Too late.

He was already moving.

Sinta followed.

No hesitation.

Bimo froze—

just a second.

Then—

"…this is a terrible idea."

He ran anyway.

The Office

The hallway felt wrong.

Too quiet.

Their footsteps echoed—

too loud.

Too clear.

Every sound—

unnatural.

They reached the office.

The door was open.

Pak Damar pushed it wider.

"Principal?"

No answer.

Empty.

But one thing was certain.

The box—

was gone.

Bu Rini stepped inside.

Her expression changed.

Not surprise.

Not confusion.

Recognition.

"…they're faster than I expected."

Arga froze.

"Who?" Sinta asked.

Bu Rini didn't answer.

Not yet.

Instead—

she turned.

Looked straight at them.

"…people who know about the program."

Silence tightened.

"…what program?" Bimo asked.

A pause.

Small.

But heavy.

Then—

Bu Rini spoke.

"The MBG program…"

Her voice dropped.

"…was never just about food."

Everything stopped.

Arga felt it again—

that tightening in his chest.

"…what do you mean?"

Bu Rini stepped closer.

"…those meals are designed."

"To awaken something."

Silence pressed in.

Sinta's voice barely came out.

"…awaken what?"

Bu Rini met their eyes.

"…your bodies."

The words didn't just land.

They sank.

"Some children," she continued,

"…can process it."

"Most can't."

Bimo's voice trembled.

"…and the ones who can?"

Bu Rini's gaze sharpened.

"…become something else."

A pause.

Long enough to change everything.

"…we call them—"

She stopped.

The lights flickered again.

Then—

a sound.

Outside.

Fast.

Close.

Arga turned.

Through the window—

a shadow vaulted over the fence.

"…they're here."

Bu Rini's expression hardened.

"…too soon."

The Call

Arga's lunch box pulsed.

Bright.

Alive.

Then—

a voice.

"…go."

He froze.

Not from outside.

Not from anyone.

From within.

Not a thought.

Not imagination.

Something deeper.

He looked down.

The symbol glowed—

sharper now.

Not just light.

Direction.

A pull.

A target.

Arga lifted his gaze.

"…we have to stop them."

Sinta nodded instantly.

"…yeah."

Bimo swallowed.

"…we're really doing this?"

Arga didn't hesitate.

"If we don't…"

"…they'll come back."

Silence.

Then—

choice.

"I'm in," Sinta said.

Bimo exhaled.

"…fine. I'm in too."

The Line

They turned—

and ran.

Out of the school.

Into something—

they didn't understand yet.

The Truth Left Behind

Bu Rini didn't stop them.

Didn't call out.

She just watched.

Pak Damar turned to her.

"You're letting them go?"

Bu Rini exhaled slowly.

"…we don't have a choice anymore."

Her gaze lifted—

toward the darkening sky.

"…they've already awakened."

A pause.

This time—

she didn't stop.

"…Nutrition Guardians."

The Beginning

Outside—

the wind cut past them.

The sky darkened.

The city continued—

unaware.

Arga ran in front.

The symbol pulsing.

Guiding.

Pulling.

Not just toward something—

…but toward something waiting.

And for the first time—

they weren't reacting.

They weren't surviving.

They were stepping forward.

Into a hidden world—

where food became power.

And power—

always demanded a price.
