Chapter 7 - Disguised, But Not Invisible(part 2)

The top floor of Blackwood Tower was silent.

Not the kind of silence that came from emptiness—

But the kind that came from control.

Every movement in the building below followed a structure. Every decision passed through layers of authority. Every voice lowered instinctively the moment it reached this level.

Because this floor—

Belonged to him.

Kael Dominic Blackwood stood near the glass wall overlooking the city, his figure still, his presence commanding even in silence.

From here, the entire city stretched beneath him—alive with lights, movement, and noise.

Yet none of it reached him.

Not really.

Because this world…

Was something he observed.

Not something that touched him.

"…interesting."

The word lingered in the air, low and deliberate.

Behind him, his assistant remained perfectly still, not daring to interrupt.

Ethan had worked for Kael long enough to recognize the shift.

It was subtle.

Almost invisible.

But it was there.

And it meant something had caught his attention.

Which rarely happened.

"Sir?" Ethan spoke carefully.

Kael didn't turn.

His gaze remained fixed on the city—but his focus was elsewhere.

Not on the lights.

Not on the people.

On something far less visible.

"I felt it again," he said finally.

His voice was calm.

Controlled.

But underneath—

There was something sharper.

Ethan's expression tightened slightly.

"…the same presence from earlier?"

A brief pause.

Then—

"Yes."

Silence settled again.

Heavy.

Measured.

Important.

Because this wasn't normal.

Nothing entered Kael's territory without being noticed.

Nothing moved within it without being accounted for.

That was the rule.

That was the order he maintained.

And yet—

Something had slipped through.

Not just once.

But twice.

Ethan stepped forward slightly, lowering his voice.

"Do you want me to alert the others?"

Kael's response was immediate.

"No."

Not louder.

Not harsher.

But absolute.

Ethan nodded instantly, stepping back.

Of course.

This wasn't something to spread.

Not yet.

Only a select few even knew the truth about Kael.

The rest?

They saw a billionaire.

A CEO.

A man of power and influence.

And that was exactly how it needed to stay.

Kael turned then, moving away from the glass with slow, deliberate steps.

Each movement precise.

Controlled.

Nothing wasted.

His presence alone shifted the atmosphere in the room.

Ethan straightened slightly, instinctively stepping aside to give him space.

"Schedule," Kael said.

"Your meeting with the board is in ten minutes," Ethan replied. "The investors from Europe are already waiting."

Kael adjusted his cuff slightly, his expression unreadable.

"Good."

Minutes later—

The conference room fell silent the moment he entered.

It wasn't announced.

It wasn't required.

It just happened.

Conversations stopped.

Postures straightened.

Eyes lowered—some out of respect, others out of something closer to fear.

Kael didn't acknowledge any of it.

He walked to the head of the table and took his seat without a word.

And just like that—

The meeting began.

A man in his late fifties cleared his throat nervously.

"As you can see, the projections for the next quarter—"

"No."

The interruption was quiet.

But it cut through the room instantly.

The man froze.

Kael's gaze lifted slightly.

Cold.

Sharp.

Focused.

"Start again," he said. "And this time—say something worth my time."

The man swallowed.

Hard.

"Yes… of course."

Papers shifted.

Voices adjusted.

The entire room recalibrated itself around him.

Because Kael didn't tolerate incompetence.

Didn't tolerate wasted time.

Didn't tolerate anything that didn't meet his standards.

And his standards—

Were impossible to reach.

As the meeting continued, no one noticed the shift.

Not in the room.

Not in the atmosphere.

But within him—

Something wasn't aligned.

His attention was divided.

A small part of him remained aware of the conversation, analyzing numbers, strategies, decisions—

But the rest?

Focused elsewhere.

On that presence.

Still faint.

Still distant.

But there.

And getting closer.

"…Mr. Blackwood?"

Kael's eyes snapped back to the speaker.

A younger executive this time.

Nervous.

Uncertain.

"Yes?" Kael replied.

The man hesitated slightly.

"Do you approve the expansion plan?"

A pause.

Just long enough to make the room uneasy.

Then—

"No."

The answer was immediate.

Decisive.

"Rework it."

The man nodded quickly, relief and tension mixing in his expression.

"Yes, sir."

The meeting ended shortly after.

No one lingered.

No one delayed.

The moment Kael stood—

They followed.

Because no one wanted to be the last person in the room with him.

Outside, the atmosphere shifted again.

Employees moved quickly.

Efficiently.

Quietly.

But not unnoticed—

The glances.

The whispers.

The subtle competition.

Because Kael Dominic Blackwood wasn't just feared.

He was desired.

Obsessed over.

Admired.

From a distance.

Because no one got close.

"He's even more handsome in person…"

"I heard he turned down a billionaire heiress last month…"

"They say no woman lasts more than a week around him…"

"Maybe I'll be the exception."

Soft laughter followed.

Hopeful.

Delusional.

Dangerous.

None of them understood.

And they weren't meant to.

Kael walked past them without a glance.

Without acknowledgment.

Without interest.

Because none of it mattered.

None of them mattered.

Not in the way they thought they did.

But then—

He stopped.

Mid-step.

Again.

The shift was sharper this time.

Stronger.

Closer.

His eyes darkened instantly.

The air around him seemed to still.

Ethan noticed immediately.

"Sir?"

Kael didn't respond.

Because this time—

It wasn't faint.

It wasn't distant.

It was inside his territory.

Closer than before.

And unmistakable.

His jaw tightened slightly.

His wolf stirred beneath the surface—alert, focused, locked onto something it couldn't fully understand.

There you are.

Kael's gaze lifted slowly.

Not toward the boardroom.

Not toward the employees.

But toward the lower levels of the building.

His voice, when he spoke, was quiet.

Controlled.

But carried a dangerous edge.

"…she's closer."

Ethan frowned slightly.

"Who?"

A pause.

Then—

Kael turned slightly, his eyes cold, unreadable.

"I don't know yet."

And that—

Was the problem
