Time passed slowly.
Too slowly.
The silence in the hidden space lingered, stretching between them like something unspoken.
Lin Mo sat where Mo Ran had placed him, his breathing steadier now, but the faint stain of blood still marked his robes.
The wound had begun to close
But not completely.
Across from him
Mo Ran hadn't moved much.
Not far.
Not even a step beyond what was necessary.
Every time Lin Mo opened his eyes
He was there.
Watching.
Quiet.
As if leaving was not an option.
"…You haven't left," Lin Mo said softly.
His voice broke the silence gently.
Mo Ran didn't look away.
"…You noticed?"
"I did."
A pause.
"…You're still here."
The words were simple.
But they carried something more.
Something that made Mo Ran's gaze shift, just slightly.
"…Should I go?" he asked.
Lin Mo hesitated.
For a moment
He didn't answer.
Because
He didn't know what the right answer was.
"…You should," he said finally.
Silence.
Mo Ran didn't move.
"…Why?"
"This place isn't safe for you."
A quiet scoff left Mo Ran's lips.
"…You've said that already."
"And it's still true."
Another pause.
Mo Ran's eyes darkened slightly.
"…So is mine."
Lin Mo looked at him.
"…Heaven is different."
"Is it?"
The question came immediately.
Sharp.
Unforgiving.
Lin Mo didn't respond right away.
Because
Something inside him hesitated.
For the first time,
He wasn't completely sure.
Mo Ran noticed.
Of course he did.
"…You're hesitating."
"I'm not."
"You are."
Silence.
Lin Mo exhaled quietly.
"…That doesn't change anything."
"…It changes everything."
Mo Ran stood.
The movement was sudden
But not aggressive.
He stepped closer.
Slowly.
Closing the distance between them again.
Too close.
Lin Mo felt it immediately
The shift in the air.
The warmth.
The presence that refused to stay away.
"…You almost disappeared."
His voice was quieter now.
But heavier.
Lin Mo's fingers tightened slightly against his robe.
"…You keep saying that."
"Because you keep acting like it doesn't matter."
"It doesn't,"
"It does."
The interruption was immediate.
Firm.
Lin Mo fell silent.
Mo Ran's gaze locked onto his.
"…Do you even understand what would've happened?"
Lin Mo didn't answer.
"…You would've been gone."
The words came out lower now.
"…And I wouldn't have been able to do anything."
Silence.
Lin Mo's expression softened slightly.
"…You're overthinking."
Mo Ran laughed.
But there was no humor in it.
"…You really don't get it."
He looked away for a moment.
"…Or maybe you just don't want to."
Lin Mo watched him quietly.
"…Then explain it to me."
That made Mo Ran pause.
Because,
He couldn't.
Not completely.
Not without saying too much.
"…Forget it."
The words came out quieter this time.
But they didn't carry anger.
Just restraint.
Lin Mo shifted slightly.
The movement was small,
But it was enough to make Mo Ran notice.
"…Don't move."
"…I'm fine."
"You're not."
Lin Mo almost smiled.
"…You sound like you care again."
Mo Ran froze.
"…You keep saying that."
"Because it's true."
Silence.
Neither of them looked away.
And for a moment
Everything else disappeared.
"…You should go," Lin Mo said again, more quietly this time.
Mo Ran didn't answer immediately.
"…If they find you here"
"Let them."
The response came instantly.
Lin Mo's eyes widened slightly.
"…Mo Ran"
"I'm not leaving."
The words were simple.
But final.
Lin Mo stared at him.
"…Why?"
A pause.
This time
Longer.
He should have said something else.
Anything else.
But instead
"…Because I don't trust you to stay alive on your own."
Lin Mo blinked.
"…That's your reason?"
Mo Ran looked away slightly.
"…It's enough."
Silence.
But something about the way he said it
Wasn't convincing.
Lin Mo noticed.
"…You're lying."
"…I'm not."
"You are."
Mo Ran didn't respond.
Because—
He didn't want to admit it.
That it wasn't just about safety.
It was about him.
About not wanting to see him disappear again.
"…Next time," Mo Ran said quietly,
"…don't go anywhere without telling me."
Lin Mo looked at him.
"…You said that already."
"And I'll say it again."
A pause.
"…Until you understand it."
Lin Mo's breath caught slightly.
"…You're serious."
"…I always am."
Silence settled again.
But this time
It felt heavier.
Closer.
Like something had shifted between them.
Lin Mo lowered his gaze slightly.
"…What if I can't promise that?"
Mo Ran didn't hesitate.
"…Then I'll just have to follow you."
The answer came without pause.
Without doubt.
Lin Mo looked up.
Surprised.
"…You would do that?"
Mo Ran met his gaze.
"…I already am."
Silence.
Lin Mo didn't know what to say.
Because,
There was nothing to say.
The truth was already there.
Unspoken.
Clear.
And still
Mo Ran didn't leave.
