Chapter 39 - Chapter Thirty-Nine: Watching in Silence

The warehouse didn't look like much during the day.

Just an old building.

Faded paint.

Broken windows.

Quiet.

Too quiet.

From across the street, hidden behind an abandoned store, two of Malik's guys sat low, watching.

"Been like this all morning," one whispered.

"No movement?"

"Nothing."

The other frowned.

"That don't feel right."

Because a place like that—

After everything that happened—

Shouldn't be that calm.

Then—

A car pulled up.

Slow.

Dark tinted windows.

The guys straightened immediately.

"Finally…"

The car stopped near the warehouse.

Nobody came out.

"That's weird," one said.

"Too weird," the other replied.

They kept watching.

Not moving.

Not rushing.

Malik stood in the middle of the street, surrounded by a few of the guys.

The energy was still tense.

Still heavy.

"You hear anything?" Dre asked.

Malik shook his head.

"Not yet."

Dre exhaled.

"I don't like waiting."

Malik looked at him.

"That's because you thinking with emotion."

"I'm thinking about what they did," Dre replied.

"So am I," Malik said calmly. "That's why we don't rush."

Silence.

Because deep down—

They all wanted revenge.

But Malik wanted control.

Malik's phone buzzed.

He answered immediately.

"Talk."

"It's quiet," the voice said. "Too quiet."

Malik's eyes narrowed slightly.

"Explain."

"They pulled up… but nobody came out."

That was enough.

"They watching us too…" Malik muttered.

Dre frowned.

"What you mean?"

Malik looked up slowly.

"If we watching them…"

A pause.

"They watching back."

Dre's expression changed.

"Damn…"

Malik turned away slightly.

"Don't move," he said into the phone. "Stay where you are."

"You think it's a trap?"

"I think it's something worse," Malik replied.

The car.

The silence.

The lack of movement.

It wasn't random.

It was planned.

The two guys kept watching.

Minutes passed.

Then—

The car door opened.

One man stepped out.

Hood up.

Face low.

He looked around slowly.

Like he already knew someone was watching.

"Yo…"

"That man just looked straight at us…"

The two exchanged glances.

Something wasn't right.

Malik grabbed his jacket.

"I'm going there."

Dre stepped forward.

"I'm coming."

Malik shook his head.

"No."

Dre frowned.

"What?"

"If this is what I think it is," Malik said, "we can't all walk into it."

"You don't trust me?" Dre asked.

Malik paused.

Just for a second.

Then—

"It's not about trust."

But the hesitation?

Dre noticed it.

And just like that—

Something small shifted.

Not loud.

Not obvious.

But real.

Malik got into the car.

Engine on.

Mind focused.

Eyes sharp.

Because now—

This wasn't just about revenge.

As he drove toward the warehouse, one thought stayed in his head—

Clear.

Dangerous.

Unavoidable:

Somebody was playing both sides.
