ALPHA MASON — POV
Guilt hit me like a punch. Choking her like that… what if Selena hadn't stopped me? What if she had died?
"Mars," I growled in my head, shutting him out before he could start his rant. You almost got our mate killed! What were you thinking?!
I ignored him. Since the moment I met her, I'd been keeping Mars under control, shutting him down whenever he got too aggressive. I wasn't about to let my own wolf make the mistakes that could cost me my mate.
Selena was still in the room, standing quietly, her eyes sharp. I called to her. "Selena. Come here. How and why is my mate human? I'm an Alpha, a king. You know I need a powerful Luna, not… some weakling. Go to the Moon Goddess and ask what's going on. I'm certain that naughty woman has told you something."
"Stop raising your voice, Alpha," Selena said, calm but firm. "She is asleep. She needs rest after barely escaping death."
"Really, Selena? Go back home, consult your so-called Moon Goddess, and bring me her answers before tomorrow," I ordered.
"You can't keep hating the Moon Goddess forever, Alpha," she said softly. "It wasn't her fault… she keeps saying"
"You may leave," I interrupted. She bowed her head and left without another word.
I turned to Dennis. "Prepare a room for her on the third floor. Take her there."
Dennis nodded and left, and I returned to my study. Since I came back from the human world, I knew paperwork would be piled high. I attended to it meticulously before deciding to release Mars.
Then I saw hermy little mate walking toward the border, unaware. Is she trying to run? My instincts surged.
Malvis, my Gamma, shifted into his wolf form and raced toward the border as well. My mate panicked, fear washing over her, and she looked like she was about to faint again.
I shifted back into human form instantly, naked, and scooped her up in my arms. She had a habit of fainting, it seemed. She just fainted because she saw Malvis in wolf form… I wonder how she would react when she sees Mars.
Malvis, unaware of what he'd caused, froze when he saw me. Respectfully, he offered me his clothes. I accepted, dressing quickly, and carried my mate back to her room. That's what she gets for trying to run.
I left the room before Mars could get restless. My mate was safe… for now.
