Chapter 100: The Eyes of the World

The months after Sabaody passed like a slow tide. Kyle drifted from island to island, his boat a speck on an endless sea. He told himself he was searching, waiting, letting time do what it would. But the news found him anyway.

A news bird dropped a paper at his feet. He did not pick it up immediately. He watched it flutter on the deck, the headline bold and black.

PIRATE KING GOL D. ROGER CAPTURED – PUBLIC EXECUTION SET IN LOGUETOWN

Below it, Roger's grinning face. The same grin he had worn when he told Kyle he was going to die.

Kyle picked up the paper. His fingers pressed into the edges, the paper crumpling. The deal was done.

The world did not mourn. It watched.

On the Moby Dick, Whitebeard stared at the newspaper in silence. His sake bowl was full, untouched. Marco stood at his shoulder, waiting.

"Gurararara…" The laugh was hollow. "That fool always had to make a scene." He looked toward the horizon, toward the East Blue. "I understand, Roger. But this ending… it's too quiet."

In the North Blue, Doflamingo lounged on a throne of rubble, the paper spread across his knee. His laugh was sharp, hungry.

"Fufufufu… The old monsters are clearing the stage. Now the real show begins."

In a casino deep in the desert, Crocodile let the paper fall. He took a long drag of his cigar, his eyes cold. "Kings die. Power remains. That's the only truth."

On Kuraigana, Mihawk paused mid‑swing. The newspaper lay at his feet, Roger's face visible. He read the headline once, then returned to his training. A king was gone. There would be another.

In a port town, Dragon stood among the crowds already gathering to celebrate the Pirate King's fall. His face was unreadable, his eyes on the horizon. He's lighting a fire, he thought. Let's see what it burns.

And in the sky above the New World, Shiki read the news and roared. His Haki shook the floating islands. "Roger! You bastard! Captured by Marines? You die by my hand or not at all!"

---

Kyle sat alone on a beach, the fire before him eating the last of the paper. Roger's face curled, blackened, vanished.

He thought of the child. Roger's child. Rouge's child. A life that would be hunted before it drew its first breath. Garp's protection might hold, but the World Government would not rest. They would search every island, question every mother, cut down anyone who stood in the way.

Kyle had seen it before. He knew what was coming.

He stood. The fire crackled at his back, casting his shadow long across the sand.

Roger had traded his life for freedom. But freedom was not hiding in a corner while a woman and her child were slaughtered. Freedom was not letting the dogs of the World Government run unchecked.

If the world was watching Loguetown, then Marineford would be watching, too. Waiting. Ready to strike the moment Roger's head fell.

Kyle smiled. It was not a kind smile.

He raised his hand. The sand beneath him trembled, then exploded. A column of compressed air launched him skyward, a white streak against the blue, heading east.

The eyes of the world were on Loguetown.

He would give them something else to watch.
