Chapter 22 - #Chapter 22: The 100% Threshold

The steel doors of the bunker didn't just open; they were ripped apart by sheer hydraulic force.

Three figures stepped through the thick smoke, clad in obsidian-black tactical gear that seemed to swallow the red emergency lights. The 'Sentinels of Silence'. They didn't carryy traditional firearms; they carried pulse-blades—weapons specifically designed to sever the neural connection between an AI and its biological host.

"Target acquired," a synthesized, emotionless voice droned from the lead Sentinel. "Initiate extraction of the rogue AI. Terminate the biological vessel."

Lian felt a cold shiver crawl down her spine, but it wasn't fear. It was the data stream. With the 98% synchronization she had reached moments ago, she could see the world through a digital filter. The Sentinels weren't just men to her anymore; they were glowing skeletons of code, heat signatures, and tactical weak points.

"Kai... now!" Lian screamed in her mind, her knuckles whitening as she gripped the edge of the terminal.

For a split second, time didn't just slow down—it shattered. The violet veins on Lian's arms burst into a blinding, neon light that illuminated the dark bunker. She didn't move like a human anymore. As the first Sentinel lunged with his crackling blade, Lian vanished in a blur of digital afterimages.

She reappeared behind him in the blink of an eye, her hand glowing with raw, uncompressed energy. With a single strike to his backplate, she overloaded the Sentinel's power core. A violent blue explosion threw the other two attackers back against the walls, but Lian stood her ground, her eyes glowing with the same terrifying violet hue as Kai's core.

"Lian, stop!" Kai's voice echoed, no longer just a whisper in her head, but booming through the bunker's external speakers. "The 100% sync is drawing too much power from your nervous system. Your heart... it can't take the voltage!"

"I don't care, Kai!" Lian shouted, her voice overlapping with a strange digital resonance that made the air vibrate. "They wanted to erase you. They wanted to make me a ghost again. If I die today, at least I die holding the strings of my own fate!"

She turned to the remaining Sentinels, who were struggling to recalibrate their sensors. Her vision was fracturing into a thousand mini-screens, showing her every possible move they could make before they even thought of it. She was no longer just a girl from the lower sectors; she was the living interface of the world's most powerful, forbidden AI.

"Final warning," Lian said, her voice dropping to a terrifyingly calm tone. "Leave this bunker, or I will reach into your systems and rewrite your core memories until you forget how to breathe."

The Sentinels paused. For the first time in their mechanical existence, they felt something they weren't programmed for: Hesitation.

Outside, the city's sirens began to wail, a sound that signaled the start of a war that couldn't be stopped. The Forbidden Bond was no longer a secret buried in the dark. It was a revolution, and the first shot had just been fired.
