Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Plans Never Go as Expected

Evan hadn't expected that woman to already have a boyfriend.

A tattooed thug?

Could she have ties to the underworld?

The image flashed through Evan's mind—her sitting alone in a private room, drinking.

She really didn't look like a proper, well-bred lady.

What I don't understand was—why would someone like her choose a man like that?

A woman that stunning dating a thug could only mean one thing.

She just wanted the thrill.

The thought made him look down on her.

Felicia's lips curved slightly. "Still… that woman just now was really beautiful."

Her tone carried a hint of admiration.

Evan snorted. "What's the point of being pretty if she has no ambition? Just a decorative vase—nice to look at, useless otherwise. Felicia, you're different. You're talented. Don't ever become someone like her."

Felicia lowered her head shyly. "Okay."

He helped her back into their private room, where another round of games began.

Tonight, everyone invited was from Felicia's class. Those girls had "accidentally" found out about her wealthy background, and with her talent and near-debut idol status, they eagerly flocked to her side.

In just a few days since school started, Felicia had already gathered a crowd of admirers and friends.

The room buzzed with laughter and excitement.

But Evan remained distracted.

Sitting off to the side, he drank in silence, lost in his thoughts.

Felicia noticed—but said nothing.

Meanwhile, Riley monitored the bar's surveillance feed on her phone.

At 9:40 p.m., she spotted a car pulling up outside.

Adrian.

Lucas.

And a gray-haired man she didn't recognize.

The three of them entered the bar and headed straight upstairs—toward the most luxurious private suite.

Riley stood and made her way up as well.

This place might be called a bar, but it was more like an exclusive club.

The right side of the second floor catered to regular guests, while the rest was reserved for the elite of the capital—fully equipped with private rooms, pools, and every indulgence imaginable.

Fifth floor.

Zachary pushed Adrian inside, muttering, "We're definitely meeting that mysterious doctor tonight, right? If she doesn't show again, I swear I'm reporting her on the medical forum!"

Lucas frowned, clearly unhappy. "Why report her? Rye didn't skip on purpose! She must've been delayed. Can't you be a little more understanding?"

Rye is adorable.

Reporting her was downright heartless!

Do they have any idea how hard it was to build up an account on the medical forum?

Jerks!

Zachary was speechless.

"Wait," he suddenly narrowed his eyes. "You know the person who took the job? You two were close? Don't tell me you're the one who arranged this?"

At that, Adrian's gaze flicked over as well.

Rye.

The name alone grated on him.

Annoying.

His impression of the unseen doctor dropped instantly.

Lucas touched his nose awkwardly and coughed. "We just… happened to meet on the medical forum."

And I was the one who tipped her off to run last time…

This time, she should be ready. I think.

If I'd known things would turn out like this, I should've just taken the case myself and treated my cousin instead.

He sighed inwardly.

Plans never go as expected.
