Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: Could It Be Her?

The virus in Adrian's body…

It was Black Veil.

A wave of shock rippled through Riley.

Could it be… the man I met on the streets of Malacca three years ago… was him?

For years, she had been searching for any trace of Black Veil.

Nothing.

If two people in this world were infected with the same rare virus…

That probability was lower than time travel.

And yet—

Not impossible.

While Riley studied Adrian, he was watching her just as closely.

There was something familiar about this woman in front of him.

Especially the way her eyes shifted when she was thinking.

Have I seen her somewhere before…?

Riley suppressed the storm in her thoughts and began treatment.

She administered a round of needle-based treatment, then took out two bottles of medicine from her kit and handed them to him.

"Take this once a day. Needle therapy will follow a treatment cycle—more frequent at the beginning, about once a week. It'll be a bit tough at first, but buying you six months won't be a problem."

Adrian accepted them with a nod.

Then, suddenly—

"Miss Sheena… have we met before?"

Riley's heart skipped.

Did he recognize me?

She forced a small laugh. "No. I've never met you. This is the first time we've met."

Lucas frowned beside them. "Rye's been in Malacca all these years. She only came back recently. How could you two have met?"

What kind of pickup line is that? So outdated.

Just because she's pretty, you're trying to flirt? That's too much!

Leave some chances for single men like me!

"Malacca?" Adrian's lips curled slightly, a trace of amusement flickering in his eyes.

Riley felt his gaze tighten around her like a net.

She nodded quickly. "Yes, I've always been in Malacca. So there's no way we've met. Mr Yates, that's all for today. I'll contact you for the next appointment."

Before anyone could say more, she grabbed her case and made a swift exit.

Lucas hurried after her.

Only when their figures disappeared did Adrian withdraw his gaze, the smile on his lips deepening.

Zachary shivered at the sight. "Bro… is there something wrong with that doctor?"

"No."

"Then why were you staring at her like that? I thought you were into her!"

Zachary let out a relieved breath—

Until Adrian spoke again.

"I am."

"WHAT?!" Zachary practically launched off the sofa. "No, no, no—absolutely not! You can like anyone, just not Miss Sheena! Lucas is clearly into her—his eyes were glued to her! Stealing your brother's girl is out of the question!"

"Calm down, bro! If you fight him over this, he'll come at you with a knife! And don't forget—you've got a wife at home! Sure, she's… a little slow, but you just got married! Cheating now? That's not… that's really not good! The poor girl already has it rough—no love from her parents, like a cabbage in the field—"

Adrian shot him a look.

"That Sheena… might be the woman who saved me on the streets of Malacca three years ago."

Silence.

Zachary's dramatic rant died instantly.

"Are you serious?" he asked, stunned. "You're sure?"

"Not sure. Just a suspicion."

Then why say it like that?!

Zachary silently offered Lucas a moment of sympathy.

This time… his chances of getting the girl just dropped to zero.

Because unless someone was blind—

Between Adrian and Lucas…

There was no competition at all.
