Chapter 7 - Ch6- Dinner and Movie Night...

Chapter 6 – Dinner and Movie Night

The mansion was quiet in the golden evening light, the kind of calm that made the outside world feel miles away. JJ had barely set down her bag when Percy and Aries began instructing her.

"Come on, JJ," Percy said, dragging her gently toward the grand dining hall. "Dinner's almost ready. You might as well pretend you belong here tonight."

JJ shot him a look, crossing her arms. "Pretend? I already feel like I'm under a microscope."

Aries chuckled. "Good. You should. It keeps people on their toes."

JJ rolled her eyes but followed them anyway.

The Dining Hall

The dining room was enormous, with a polished mahogany table that could easily seat twenty, sparkling chandeliers overhead, and a subtle scent of fresh flowers lingering in the air.

Keifer sat at one end, his posture straight, expression carefully neutral. His mother, Serina Watson, was setting the last of the dishes onto the table with a soft smile. Behind him, his younger brothers, Keigan and Keiren, were already chattering away like any pair of typical teenage boys.

JJ immediately noticed the contrast between this polished, calm environment and the chaos of her brothers' more casual homes.

Percy nudged her forward. "Go on. Sit. Don't look so scared."

JJ muttered, "Scared? Me? I'm not scared of… any of this."

But as she took a seat next to Aries, she couldn't help glancing at Keifer across the table. He was watching her carefully, like a hawk studying its prey, and it made her pulse quicken.

Introductions and Awkwardness

Serina smiled warmly at JJ. "It's so lovely to finally meet you, JJ. Percy and Aries have told me so much."

JJ inclined her head politely. "It's… nice to meet you too, Ma'am."

Keifer's eyes narrowed slightly, watching JJ's calm demeanor. She wasn't being overly formal. She wasn't trying to impress anyone. Yet, she carried herself in a way that made him… uncomfortable. And intrigued.

Keigan leaned over and whispered to Keiren, loud enough for JJ to hear, "Is she really their sister? She's… different."

Keiren snorted. "Different how? She's normal."

JJ smirked faintly, shaking her head. "You boys have no idea."

Keifer raised an eyebrow. "Oh really? Enlighten us."

JJ shrugged innocently. "I just mean… normal depends on perspective."

The conversation moved on with polite chatter. Percy and Aries kept teasing JJ subtly, making her blush slightly, while Keifer's mother, Serina, seemed to relax more as she noticed JJ's polite confidence.

Dinner Dynamics

As the meal progressed, Keifer noticed the subtle ways JJ interacted with everyone.

She laughed quietly at Aries' dry jokes, not forced but genuine.

She quietly offered a suggestion to Keiren when he struggled with cutting his meat properly.

She didn't try to dominate the conversation, yet somehow held everyone's attention effortlessly.

Keifer found himself leaning forward, noticing everything.

"So," he said finally, breaking the lull, "JJ, how is Section E treating you so far?"

JJ looked at him calmly, raising one brow. "Depends on who you ask. Some people are loud. Some people are… predictable. Some are curious.Their President is very annoying."

Keifer's jaw twitched slightly. "Annoying and curious?"

JJ shrugged, eyes flicking briefly toward him. "They are a dangerous trait."

The corners of Keifer's lips twitched involuntarily. She was teasing, but not mocking. It was subtle, and yet it hit him harder than he expected.

Serina, watching the exchange with mild amusement, gave a small nod of approval. There was something about JJ that drew her in—the way she held herself, polite but firm, confident but not arrogant. She could see why her son might… be… unsettled.

Keigan whispered something to Keiren, and both boys grinned, nudging each other as they observed JJ. Percy shot JJ a knowing glance, silently reminding her to maintain her tomboyish ease without trying to impress anyone.

After Dinner: Movie Night

After clearing the table, Percy suggested a movie night in the cozy home theater room. JJ followed, still feeling slightly out of place, though the mansion now felt less intimidating than it had at first glance.

Keifer was already seated, arms crossed, looking unimpressed—or trying to appear that way. JJ dropped into a seat across from him, leaning casually against the armrest.

Aries and Percy flopped onto the couch beside her. Keigan and Keiren claimed the recliners.

Serina quietly set out snacks and soft drinks, giving JJ an approving smile before excusing herself to check on some other things.

Tension and Teasing

The movie began—a lighthearted action-comedy—but the real drama was the tension in the room between JJ and Keifer.

At one point, Keifer reached for the popcorn just as JJ's hand brushed his.

"You're everywhere," Keifer muttered, though his tone was half teasing, half frustrated.

JJ smirked. "I could say the same for you."

He froze slightly, blinking at her. "Excuse me?"

"Predictable," she said simply, popping a piece of popcorn into her mouth. "You always sit there, arms crossed, scowling at everything. It's… annoying."

Keifer's jaw tightened, but he felt heat rise to his cheeks. She was bold. Too bold. And yet, something about her honesty made him… intrigued.

Subtle Bonding

During the movie, JJ found herself relaxing. She laughed quietly at jokes with Percy and Aries. She whispered comments to the younger Watson boys, earning surprised but amused glances from them.

Keifer, from across the room, noticed her kindness and humor. Her ability to remain calm in the chaos of the mansion, the teasing of her brothers, and the presence of his own family—it all fascinated him.

For the first time, Keifer saw JJ not as the mysterious, impossible transfer student, but as a person—a girl who could challenge him, irritate him, and somehow make him feel… something he wasn't used to.

And JJ? She noticed the way Keifer's eyes kept flicking toward her, the subtle tension in his posture whenever she laughed or spoke casually. She didn't blush—not yet—but the awareness made her heart beat just a little faster.

Closing Moments

By the end of the movie, everyone was relaxed. Percy and Aries leaned back, satisfied. Keigan and Keiren were dozing lightly. Serina returned to the room, smiling at the scene: JJ chatting casually, laughing quietly, and even engaging briefly with Keifer without bowing or overcompensating.

Serina whispered to herself softly, a smile playing on her lips, "She's exactly the kind of girl I hoped my son would meet."

JJ glanced briefly at Keifer, who caught her gaze. Neither spoke, but in that silent exchange, there was a shift—a recognition that the dynamic between them had changed tonight.

The mansion felt less intimidating, the night less lonely, and JJ felt something she hadn't felt in a long time: belonging.

And for Keifer, for the first time, the realization hit: this girl—the one he had thought was impossible—was slowly becoming impossible to ignore.
