Chapter 9 - Chapter 8:The World Notices You Looking Back

Sakura didn't go home immediately.

She couldn't.

Because the moment she stopped moving—

everything she had just learned would start dissolving again.

The ring stayed in her palm.

Warm.

Constant.

The only thing that hadn't tried to disappear yet.

"…don't stop remembering," she repeated quietly.

The voice's final words still lingered in her mind.

Like a warning etched into thought itself.

---

She walked without direction.

Not lost anymore.

Just searching without admitting it.

Every step felt heavier now.

Not physically.

But mentally.

Like the world was beginning to resist her attention.

Sakura frowned slightly.

"…this is getting worse," she whispered.

And as soon as she said it—

something responded.

---

A flicker.

In the corner of her vision.

She turned sharply.

Nothing there.

Just people.

Just movement.

Just normality pretending to be intact.

"…I saw that," she said firmly.

No one reacted.

Of course not.

But she wasn't imagining it.

She was sure now.

---

Her phone vibrated again.

But this time—

she didn't answer immediately.

She stared at it.

Like it was an object she no longer fully trusted.

Unknown number.

Again.

"…you're persistent," she muttered.

Then answered.

"…what do you want?"

Silence.

But not empty silence.

Structured.

Like something waiting for permission to speak.

Then—

"…you're pulling too hard."

Sakura froze slightly.

"…pulling what?"

A pause.

Then—

"…him."

Her chest tightened instantly.

"…I'm not doing anything," she said quickly.

A soft sound followed.

Almost like disappointment.

"…that's what you think."

---

The air around her felt slightly off now.

Subtle at first.

Then clearer.

Like pressure shifting in the atmosphere.

Sakura looked around slowly.

People were still walking.

Still talking.

But something about them felt… misaligned.

Like they were slightly out of sync with the moment she was in.

"…what is this…" she whispered.

And then she saw it.

---

A man across the street.

Standing still.

Looking directly at her.

Not casually.

Not accidentally.

Directly.

Sakura's breath slowed.

"…do you see me?" she muttered.

The man didn't move.

Didn't blink.

Then—

he smiled.

But it wasn't natural.

It was delayed.

Like the expression arrived late to his face.

---

Sakura stepped back.

"…no…"

The world around her flickered for a fraction of a second.

Just a distortion.

Just enough.

And when it settled—

the man was gone.

---

Her heartbeat spiked.

"…that wasn't normal," she said firmly.

Her grip on the ring tightened again.

It felt warmer now.

Almost reacting to the same instability she was sensing.

---

Her phone vibrated again—harder this time.

Urgent.

Relentless.

Sakura hesitated.

Then answered.

"…stop calling me," she said immediately.

But the voice on the other end was different.

Not calm this time.

Not patient.

Lower.

Strained.

"…you made contact again."

Sakura frowned.

"…contact with what?"

A pause.

Then—

"…the interference increased."

Her breath caught.

"…interference?"

The voice exhaled slowly.

"…you're not supposed to be able to stabilize him this much."

Sakura's fingers went cold.

"…what are you talking about?"

Silence.

Then—

"…listen carefully."

The tone changed.

Heavier.

More serious.

"…you are not just remembering him."

"…you are anchoring him."

---

Sakura stopped walking completely.

The street around her continued moving.

But she didn't.

"…anchoring…" she repeated.

The word didn't feel like information.

It felt like impact.

---

The voice continued.

"…and the more you anchor him…"

A pause.

"…the more the world resists."

Sakura swallowed slightly.

"…resists how?"

A long silence followed.

Then—

"…by erasing anything that confirms he exists."

---

For a moment—

everything around her felt too quiet.

Too controlled.

Too precise.

Sakura looked at the ring again.

And suddenly understood something she didn't want to understand.

"…so that's the erosion," she whispered.

---

The voice didn't correct her.

Which was answer enough.

---

A faint crack appeared in her thoughts again.

Not pain.

Not memory.

But pressure.

Like reality itself was starting to push back harder every time she focused.

Sakura took a slow breath.

"…I don't care," she said quietly.

Her voice steadier now.

"…I'm not stopping."

---

And somewhere—

beyond what the world around her was allowed to acknowledge—

the interference deepened.

Not violently.

Not immediately.

But inevitably.

Like something had finally been noticed by a system that had spent too long pretending it wasn't there.
