Diego never really liked noise.It made him feel out of place...out of control.She was dead.She all he had left and she was gone.Memories came crashing down on him.Times where they'd laughed, fought for each other or against themselves and times when they'd struggled together.He couldn't hold back the bitter laugh that left his lips as his tears finally subsided.He had been crying for god knows how long but he never cared.He sat up and listened to the silence of the cold,empty halls.He just stayed there, until the silence was finally broken by the sound of subtle footsteps behind him.
He didn't turn to see who it was.He didn't want to know or care but he just listened until the footsteps stopped just a few feet behind him.
"Damn kid,you really did all this by yourself huh"A voice said and that's when Diego finally turned to see who it was.Behind him stood a young man.The man was tall and lanky.He wore a black suit and had an infuriatingly cocky smirk on his face.
Diego ignored him though and the man seemed slightly irritated by that.Whoever this man was, he'd seen the creature which thanks to Diego was now nothing more than a puddle of flesh and blood and wasn't affected in the slightest but instead,the man seemed to be enjoying this situation.Diego's gaze wandered back to Misa's body and the man's eyes followed his.
The man stared at her body for a second or two before bursting into laughter.His loud, obnoxious laugh echoed through the the quiet,empty hallway of the school and Diego growled lowly in anger
"You couldn't protect her could you."The man laughed and said plainly "I wish I was here to see her last moments.The look on her face would be priceless"
That was the last straw for Diego."SHUT THE HELL UP!"He yelled, standing up and swinging a fist at the man.The man smirked again like he'd gotten the reaction he was looking for.
The man side stepped, dodging the punch and tripping Diego in the process.Diego landed on the man's chest with a soft "oof".He growled and got ready to attack the man again but the man hugged him tight and whispered into Diego's ear "...Stay still for a moment...This won't hurt a bit..."That was the last thing Diego heard, before everything went black.
Diego was roused from his sleep when he heard the soft pitter patter of rain.His head was leaning on the window of a car and he slowly realised it was raining.He sat up,head hurting from unknown pain but then all the memories of what transpired before came crashing down on him.
Instinctively he tried to open the door to the car but it wouldn't budge.Diego groaned quietly and pushed a bit harder but then he snapped."let me out.."he grumbled and suddenly began to punch the window of the car in frustration.The glass cracked with each desperate hit until eventually,it shattered.
Diego was breathing hard and Blood slowly seeped down his fist.He ignored the pain and crawled out the car through the window.The rain persisted and he Eventually got drenched in it.He looked around and realized he was standing on a steep cliff.Diego walk to the edge and saw a figure dressed in black standing at the bottom.He unconsciously tightened his grip on his red jacket and started walking down.Whoever this man was,he was going to make him pay for mocking Misa.
He kept walking, familiar memories haunting him with each step,rain and mud drenching him and making him cold but,he wouldn't stop,even for a moment.He finally got behind the man and pulled a shard of the shattered car glass from a corner of his jacket.He lifted it, ready to stab the man and hope...just hope it would make him feel better.
"Finally awake are ya kid"The man said,not even looking at Diego who froze in surprise.The man didn't say anything else but then he took a few steps to the side, revealing a tombstone.The name"Misa Levine" engraved on it.Diego's arms fell to his side and he took shaky steps towards her grave before collapsing to his knees.He didn't say anything...he just stared at it.
"I know what it's like to lose someone you love...I wouldn't want anyone to go through pain like that."The man said and started walking up the cliff and towards the car."Cry and mourn all you want kid but when you're coming back up,leave your past behind.Your life will never be the same and you know that."
"Fuck you..."Diego cursed and looked down at the grave.He smiled one last time at the grave and turned away from it.He followed the man up the cliff and soon,the rain began to subside.Who the hell are you anyways?" Diego asked.
The man smirked and looked at Diego over his shoulder."My name is Ivankov Namatsura" The man said proudly.
"I'm Diego Torrez and...I swear I'll kill you..." Diego said with a smirk of his own.
"Good.I'd like to see you try...kid..." The man said.
They entered the car and The man,now known as Ivankov looked at the window Diego had shattered."You're really a feisty one aren't you" Ivankov said.
Diego didn't answer at once but waited until the car got onto the road.
"That monster...what was it?" Diego asked
"We call them abominations." Ivankov replied
"We?"
"Yes.We or rather, AXE "
"What are you talking about?"
"AXE.ANOMALOUS eXECUTION ENGINE " Ivankov answered while still keeping his eyes fixed on the road."We handle monsters like that, angels,demons, aliens and on rare occasion,even Gods.
"Great...a bunch of delusional psychos." Diego said sarcastically.He looked out the window and realized he didn't recognize the road they were driving on."Where are you taking me?" He asked Ivankov
"A place you can call home."
"That doesn't answer my question"
"Your mothers name...it's 'Andrea Torrez ' correct?"Ivankov asked all of a sudden.
Diego's head snapped in Ivankovs direct in surprise.How the hell did this random crazy guy know his mom."Yeah,it is.But she disappeared a long time ago...she's dead." Diego answered with a cold voice."How do you know her?" He added
Ivankov looked back at Diego but never answered the question."You've gotta stay with me longer to know that kid.Im not telling you-" Diego cut Ivankov off with a rough right hook to the jaw.Ivankov swerved violently on the road but Diego kept attacking him, eventually grabbing him in a violently choke hold."What t-the hell?!Get off me" Ivankov choked out while still trying to balance the car but eventually,it ran off the road completely before crashing into a Tree on the sidewalk.
There was silence for a long moment, smoke filling the inside of the car but then The drivers door swung open and Ivankov staggered out.He coughed and tried to catch his breath.Ivankov turned to look into the car and that's when he saw two red, glowing eyes staring at him.He lifted his arms in the air as an act of surrender but in a blur, Diego dashed out of the car and tackled Ivankov to the ground with a loud thud.Diego was in that form again.The same one he used to kill the monster.Two fangs,two odd wings,two red,beady eyes and a look of rage.
Diego pinned Ivankov on the ground and punched him over and over again."How the hell do you know my mother?!Tell me!" Diego demanded but out of the blue, Ivankov answered with a punch of him own.Diego flew back and slammed into the crashed car.He shook his head to get his bearings back but when he looked up, Ivankov grabbed him by the throat.Diego's hands flew right to Ivankovs wrist and he tried to break free from the grip which he quickly realised was next to impossible
Ivankovs hands squeezed tighter, completely cutting off Diego's breath."Listen you ungrateful brat!The next time you try this stunt on me,You won't live to regret it.Understood?" Ivankov threatened like it was a promise.Diego looked Into Ivankovs eyes and reluctantly nodded.Ivankov sighed and let go of Diego's through before taking a few steps back.
"Your mom...she's alive Diego.Joining me is your best shot at seeing her again." Ivankov said.Diego looked away with resignation and slowly,he turned back to normal.Ivankov looked at his wrecked car and groaned in frustration."You trashed my car kid.I'll have to get one of the students to take us back" Ivankov muttered and pulled a phone out of his pocket.
Diego slowly got up to his feet.He spat out some blood and looked up at Ivankov."Students?" Diego asked.
"Yeah.Students" Ivankov answered."They'll be here any minute now"
"And what the hell are you? Principal or something?" Diego asked sarcastically
"As a matter of fact,I am."
"You're Joking aren't you.Next you'll tell me the names something corny like Hunter Academy or something "
"No.Its Hunter High"
"You really are a psycho"
"Psycho or not,I'm your principal from now on kid."
Diego frowned and got ready to speak again but before he could,A bright beam of light appeared above both he and Ivankov.It blinded him for a moment but and when it finally faded away,he could hear the sound of people talking casually.He blinked twice and when he could finally see clearly,He realized he was standing in a school compound.
There were students allover the place and large buildings and facilities with countless students moving Something felt off though...They weren't normal...none of them seemed to be.And how did he even get here?Was he teleported?
"What the hell?How did we get here?and who are all these people?" Diego asked Ivankov who finally got off his phone.
"WELCOME TO HUNTER HIGH!" Ivankov said with full pride but Diego didn't seem too impressed.
"I said-" Ivankov cut Diego's words off with a finger to the lips.
"There's someone I'd like you to meet I'm sure the two of you will get along pretty well" Ivankov said with a mischievous grin.Diego swatted Ivankovs hand away and huffed in annoyance.He would never openly admit it but,This school looked like it would be pretty fun.His little bubble of thought was popped when when he heard a voice behind them
"There you are.Ive been looking for you allover the place sir." Diego turned and instantly,a blush grew on his face.Before him stood a girl.She look younger than him and was a bit short.Long black hair,dark eyes and a bit of an Asian look as well.She looked stunning and Diego openly stared at her.The girl noticed and smiled."Whose your friend sir?" She asked
"This kid right here's Diego Torrez and he'll be joining the school.I hope you don't mind showing him around for a bit.Ive got work to get done" Ivankov said and without another word,he vanished as another beam of light surrounded him.
The girl took a step towards Diego but quickly held her nose in disgust."Ugh.You smell like blood and death!" She said in disgust and grabbed him by the wrist.Diego tried to stop her but she glared at him and said"Don't you dare say anything.You're taking a shower before anything else"
The rest of that day passed in a pleasant blur.Diego followed the girl allover the school as she showed his all the facilities and even the dorms.They decided to rest on a rooftop.
"you've been staring at me all day y'know?is there something on my face or am I just that pretty?" The girl teased.
"The latter"Diego replied and looked away.He smiled, genuinely smiled for the first time since Misa's death.There were a few more minutes of silence before Diego broke it.
"I forgot to ask but...what's your name?" Diego asked
"Oh...It's Misa"
