Cherreads

Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: First Gacha.

After several seconds of tense anticipation, the Wheel of Fortune began to spin. The red sectors merged into a fiery blur as Lin Wei's heart beat faster and faster. He involuntarily held his breath, watching the wheel gradually slow down.

Finally, the pointer stopped.

A bright message flashed on the interface:

[Congratulations! You have received: "Fortified Residential Complex – Green Rank"]

Lin Wei stared at the result in silence. Green rank.

For a brief moment, disappointment stabbed at his chest. He had hoped for more. After five years of hell, after dying and returning to the past, he wanted something truly powerful — a golden or at least a blue-rank building. But he quickly pulled himself together and smirked.

Of course. What was I expecting? Buildings of higher rank occupy only a tiny portion of the wheel. The probability was extremely low. At least it didn't land on white rank. That would have been a real insult.

He took a deep breath and focused on the newly acquired building. Its detailed description immediately appeared before his eyes.

[Fortified Residential Complex (Green Rank).]

[Type: Multifunctional Shelter.]

[Area: 2800 m² Floors: 4 floors + basement level.]

[Defense: Basic impact-resistant armor (resistant to firearms and monster attacks up to level 15).]

[Additional Features: Self-repairing outer walls (slow), Built-in air and water filtration system, Hidden underground garage for 12 vehicles, Reinforced metal shutters on all windows, Basic power supply system (operates on solar panels and backup generator).]

Lin Wei read every line carefully and nodded slowly. The disappointment gradually faded, replaced by practical satisfaction.

Not bad. Actually quite decent for the first pull. Four floors, a basement level, and decent protection against early monsters… In the first days of the apocalypse, this building will become a real fortress. The main thing is to occupy it before chaos erupts.

He imagined what the complex would look like once activated: strong walls, sealed windows, and reliable supplies inside. A place where he could not only survive but also gradually grow stronger. Compared to how he had hidden in damp basements and half-destroyed offices in his previous life, this was a huge step forward.

Green rank gives a solid foundation.

Satisfied, Lin Wei noticed a new icon in the lower part of the interface — a small glowing red backpack.

Inventory?

He mentally opened it. Inside was a single slot containing the image of the "Fortified Residential Complex." Lin Wei tried to mentally move his regular wallet from the table into the inventory. Nothing happened. He focused harder — still no result.

So that's how it works.

He quickly understood the rule. Only items obtained from the Wheel of Fortune could be stored in the system inventory. Anything belonging to the ordinary world could not be placed there. It was limiting, but it also made the system more orderly and logical.

That means real loot will be stored in a separate space. Convenient. No need to carry heavy items around or worry about them being stolen.

Lin Wei closed the inventory and looked back at the Wheel of Fortune. The excitement was still bubbling in his blood. He wanted to spin it again — maybe he would get another building or something from the weapons category. He was about to give the mental command when a new message appeared:

[Attention! The Wheel of Fortune has a limit: 1 spin per day.] [Next opportunity will be available after midnight (00:00).]

Lin Wei froze, then quietly laughed and shook his head.

Of course… It couldn't be that easy.

He leaned back on the bed and stared at the ceiling. One spin per day. This rule immediately put everything in perspective. The System had no intention of making him all-powerful overnight. He would have to be strategic, choose categories carefully, and not waste any chances.

One spin a day is still better than nothing. In the seven days before the Descent, I can do seven spins. If I distribute the categories wisely, by the start of the apocalypse I will already have a decent set of buildings, weapons, and supplies.

Lin Wei stood up and walked to the window. Outside, the ordinary world continued as usual: cars drove by, people hurried about their business, and the spring sun shone brightly. No one suspected that in one week their normal lives would end forever.

But he had already begun preparing.

A clear plan quickly formed in his mind. Tomorrow morning he would first select the "Weapons" category — he needed at least one reliable weapon for the initial stage. The day after tomorrow — "Consumables," to build up food and water reserves. He would spin for buildings last, once he had a better idea of where to place his base.

Green rank is just the beginning. Not perfect, but enough to survive and start gaining momentum.

Lin Wei opened the interface once more and looked at the building icon. A warm, almost joyful feeling rose in his chest. For the first time in a long while, he had a real advantage. Not just knowledge of the future, but actual power capable of changing the course of events.

He closed the system window and checked the clock. There was still plenty of time until midnight. He needed to use it wisely: make a detailed shopping list for the coming days, choose the best district to place his future building, and perhaps start collecting cash. After the Descent, money would lose most of its value, but it was still useful for now.

Lin Wei sat down at the old desk, took a notebook and pen, and began filling the page with neat notes. Every point was carefully thought out.

He knew the most important thing right now was not to rush. One correct decision after another. Step by step, he would build a base far beyond anything he could have dreamed of in his previous life.

The green-rank building had become the first brick in his new destiny. And Lin Wei was determined to make every next brick stronger than the last.
